Final Session. The Impact Of Storytelling: The Pass It On Project, Gloria Burgess, Karen Davidson-Smith, Cade Smith, Elizabeth Mitchell Prewitt
School Library Symposium
Learn about this exciting act of kindness campaign through a guided conversation with author Dr. Gloria Burgess. Her book, Pass It On, has been used to support Mississippi Studies in 4th and 8th grades. Discover how this partnership between the UM Center for Community Engagement, UM School of Education, the University Museum, and the Lafayette County School District, led to the creation of an activity trunk participants can use at their schools. Participants will also hear from speakers Dr. Karen V. Davidson Smith, UM School of Education Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion/Clinical Associate Professor, and Dr. Elizabeth Mitchell Prewitt, …
Analyzing The Shark Paleoecology Of Coastal Georgia From The Miocene And Pliocene Epochs, Joshua Lee Clark, Benjamin Angalet
Analyzing The Shark Paleoecology Of Coastal Georgia From The Miocene And Pliocene Epochs, Joshua Lee Clark, Benjamin Angalet
Georgia Journal of Science
The field of shark paleoecology often yields indecisive conclusions based on the limited fossilization of their anatomical structures, with the exception of their teeth. The majority of the Atlantic coast has been studied regarding the presence of certain prehistoric shark species from the Miocene, Pliocene, and Pleistocene epochs. However, information pertaining to the Georgia coast and understanding its potential community structure is relatively understudied. This study was conducted in which thousands of fossil shark specimens and subsequent marine fauna were collected from dredge spoils created by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE): Savannah District. A total of 5,127 fossil …
Selective Production Of Levoglucosan (Lg) From Pyrolysis Of Date Pits And Its Catalytic Transformation Into Transportation Fuels, Ala Hamid Higazi
Selective Production Of Levoglucosan (Lg) From Pyrolysis Of Date Pits And Its Catalytic Transformation Into Transportation Fuels, Ala Hamid Higazi
Thesis/ Dissertation Defenses
Levoglucosan (LG) or (1,6-anhydro-β-D-glucopyranose) signifies an important sugar derivative that is produced in appreciable quantities from thermochemical and biochemical degradation of biomass. It is often regarded as an important platform chemical for the synthesis of value-added products, most notably styrene and furans. The work in this thesis entails two broad aims; to produce LG from pyrolysis of date pits; and then convert the LG into transportation fuels through a hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) reaction. The particular choice of date pits stems from its local relative abundance as a waste biomass. Aiming to further improve the yield of levoglucosan yields from pyrolysis of …

Investigation Of Small-Scale Aerospike Nozzles For Cold Thrust Applications, Mohamed Hassan Almansoor
Investigation Of Small-Scale Aerospike Nozzles For Cold Thrust Applications, Mohamed Hassan Almansoor
Thesis/ Dissertation Defenses
The aerospike engine appears to be a vision for engineers who are constantly seeking to better rockets in a world where one percent improvement is considered a massive growth. Aerospike nozzles are a very promising option and a near-term alternative of the conventional de Laval nozzles in the world of propulsion systems. Up to date there have been a few aerospikes that have advanced to this point at time. However, none have been used or utilized on a rocket nor any application to date. The aerospike nozzle capabilities are relatively more advanced than the conventional de Laval nozzle due to …
Examining The Digital Divide In Education During Covid-19 From Teachers’ Perspectives, Elife Ceviker, Tuba Gezer
Examining The Digital Divide In Education During Covid-19 From Teachers’ Perspectives, Elife Ceviker, Tuba Gezer
Mid-Western Educational Researcher
The outbreak of COVID-19 resulted in unprecedented school closures in education, leading online education to become “the new normal.” Concurrently, emergency online instruction further exacerbated what is known as the digital divide, one of the contributing factors to inequality of educational opportunities. The purpose of our research is to examine in what ways the digital divide influences teachers and students during COVID-19. A better understanding of teachers' perceptions of teaching online and the digital divide can offer more information for effective teaching during the pandemic. In this multi-method study, researchers collected data from 36 teachers through Likert scale questions …

Multifunctional Composite With Hybrid Carbon Fiber And Carbonaceous Coconut Particle Reinforcement, Foster Feni, Maryam Jahan, Rong Zhao, Guoqiang Li, Guang-Lin Zhao, Patrick F. Mensah
Faculty Publications
The utilization of multifunctional composite materials presents significant advantages in terms of system efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and miniaturization, making them highly valuable for a wide range of industrial applications. One approach to harness the multifunctionality of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) is to integrate it with a secondary material to form a hybrid composite. In our previous research, we explored the use of carbonaceous material derived from coconut shells as a sustainable alternative to inorganic fillers, aiming to enhance the out-of-plane mechanical performance of CFRP. In this study, our focus is to investigate the influence of carbonized coconut shell particles on …

Diffusion Of Artificial Intelligence-Based Learning Innovation; A Case Study In Mts Muhammadiyah Tawangsari Sukoharjo, Novianto Yudha Laksana, Ayu Usada Rengkaningtias, Wuri Handayani
Informasi
Madrasah Tsanawiyah Muhammadiyah Tawangsari is a junior high school level educational institution that bases its curriculum on Islamic principles and progressively applies information technology (IT) on the foundation of Muhammadiyah values. This study aims to determine the process of diffusion of innovation in technologybased learning, focusing on the role of teachers as agents of change in applying artificial intelligence in the context of learning. The research method used was qualitative descriptive, involving in-depth interviews with four teachers who had key roles in introducing the innovation. The results showed that most teachers have received information about the use of artificial intelligence …
