Hide-And-Sweep: Detecting Concealed Cameras Via Led Illumination Sweeps, Jonghyuk Yun, Jaeyoung Moon, Yunseo Park, Sean Rui Xiang Tan, Byunghyun Kim, Rajesh Krishna Balan, Jun Han

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Hidden cameras have increasingly infiltrated hotel and Airbnb rooms, posing serious privacy risks. Detecting such cameras is challenging because they are visually inconspicuous and often embedded inside everyday objects. Even worse, existing handheld detectors are manual and also rely on single-angle illumination and hence suffer from high false-positive rates. We present SweepLED (pronounced "sweepled")1, a practical hidden camera detection system that operates on a commodity smartphone augmented with an unobtrusive LED-embedded case. SweepLED performs LED sweeping - a controlled sequence of multi-angle illumination - while the user simply holds the phone still by hand, enabling the camera to capture how …

Heat Transfer And Micropolar Characteristic Analysis For Fluid Flow Over A Contracting Permeable Infinite-Length Cylinder: A Fractional Derivative Study, Khalid Al Homran

Theses

This study presents a comprehensive analysis of heat transfer and micropolar fluid characteristics for flow over a contracting permeable infinite-length cylinder using fractional derivative modeling. The micropolar fluid model accounts for microstructure effects that are prevalent in many practical applications, such as polymeric fluids, colloidal suspensions, and biological fluids. The inclusion of fractional derivatives allows the analysis to incorporate memory effects, which provide a more accurate depiction of the physical phenomena compared to classical integer-order models. The governing partial differential equations, representing the momentum, micropolar momentum and energy transport processes, are transformed into a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations …

Co●Lab: Co-Creating Student Formation For Social Justice Leadership, Iliana Molina Estrada

Social Justice in Educational Leadership EdD Dissertations

Higher education institutions face a persistent challenge: efforts to promote social justice, while meaningful, often lack a shared language and intentional connections to student formation. Compounding this fragmentation, students and community partners are frequently absent from the decision-making processes that shape their own learning and development. This mixed-methods study, grounded in Design-Based Research (DBR), sought to collaboratively design a student formation model that connects fragmented efforts, positions students and community partners as co-creators, and strengthens students' capacity to contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Data were collected through questionnaires completed by 45 students and semi-structured interviews with 13 participants, including administrators, …

Erosion And Accretion: Mobilities Of Sand, People, And Memory At Queer Riis Beach, Jah Elyse Sayers

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

The People’s Beach at Jacob Riis Park on the Rockaway Peninsula of Queens, New York, is a vibrant place of queer and trans public-space placemaking—and especially Black and working class queer and trans placemaking. A distinct queer ecology emerges in the interplay of the dynamic movement of the barrier island, queer and trans—especially queer and trans Afro-diasporic—mobilities. This queer ecology, while articulated with, also defies and exceeds logics and workings of private property. In response to a convergence of pressures on Black, queer, trans, and working-class placemaking on the beach site in the 2020s, beachgoers have mobilized longstanding provisional socialities …

Ldm-Morph: Latent Diffusion Model Guided Deformable Image Registration, Jiong Wu, Tinsu Pan, Kuang Gong Jun 2026

Ldm-Morph: Latent Diffusion Model Guided Deformable Image Registration, Jiong Wu, Tinsu Pan, Kuang Gong

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Deformable image registration plays an essential role in various medical image tasks. Existing deep learning-based deformable registration frameworks primarily utilize convolutional neural networks (CNNs) or Transformers to learn features to predict the deformations. However, the lack of semantic information in the learned features limits the registration performance. Furthermore, the similarity metric of the loss function is often evaluated only in the pixel space, which ignores the matching of high-level anatomical features and can lead to deformation folding. To address these issues, in this work, we proposed LDM-Morph, an unsupervised deformable registration algorithm for medical image registration. LDM-Morph integrated features extracted …

Approved by California voters in 2008, the California High-Speed Rail (CAHSR) project is a planned 800-mile rail corridor across California aimed at delivering intercity passenger rail service to the state’s largest metropolitan areas. This was the first voter-approved high-speed rail project in the United States and remains one of its most contentious. The first phase of the project’s construction is currently underway in California’s Central Valley, including many communities that initially opposed CAHSR. While supporters champion increased connectivity and the provision of environmentally sustainable transportation alternatives, critics contend the project’s benefits will not outweigh its environmental costs and economic disruptions. …

Redesign And Flow Characterization Of Microcapsules Through Hollow 3d-Printed Microneedles, Ryan Lang Jun 2026

Redesign And Flow Characterization Of Microcapsules Through Hollow 3d-Printed Microneedles, Ryan Lang

Bioengineering Master's Theses

Traditional bulk cavity microneedles suffer from stagnant zones and internal wall collisions that damage suspended cell carriers. This research computationally optimized and experimentally validated a novel multi-planar, branched hollow microneedle chamber to minimize dead volume and protect sensitive payloads. By replacing the traditional bulk cavity with a symmetric six-peripheral nozzle architecture, COMSOL simulations confirmed the elimination of central stagnation zones. Low fluid velocities (0.05 m/s) maintained streamline alignment, while higher velocities (0.32 m/s) induced wall impacts, a drift completely mitigated by high-viscosity fluids.

Arrays fabricated via SLA 3D printing demonstrated consistent cross-unit nozzle diameters, despite a 27.8% average print shrinkage. …
