This research paper is the first detailed examination of the quasi-constitutional status of the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights ("CVBR") and the implications for its interpretation and application. It aims to provide a doctrinal account of this extraordinary legal recognition and to serve as a resource for scholars, judges, lawyers, and other justice system participants to ensure that the CVBR is interpreted and applied consistently with its aim of serving as a catalyst for transformative change to how the criminal justice system has historically treated victims.

Vocabulary acquisition is key to developing foreign language skills, but students, especially those learning less commonly taught languages, often struggle with new words’ retention. Multimedia glossing, which combines text, audio, and visuals, aims to help students manage cognitive load and learn vocabulary more effectively. While most research has focused on student perspectives, little is known about Farsi language teachers’ views on multimedia glossing and its challenges. This qualitative study explores Farsi teachers’ opinions on using multimedia glossing to support vocabulary learning and retention, as well as the obstacles they face.

By bridging the gap between scholarship on Machiavelli’s realism and legal thought, “Machiavelli’s Realist International Law” supports a historical approach of understanding Machiavellian international law through a realistic, human-centered project for state survival. I argue that if realism shapes the way that law produces order, then our interpretation of Machiavelli’s realism determines how we understand his views on the law’s source and function. Suffering is an inherent aspect of the human condition, often perceived as negative yet capable of fostering profound growth. This study explores the transformative potential of suffering through philosophical, psychological, and theological lenses. Specifically, it examines whether suffering is inherently evil or can instead serve as a catalyst for developing character traits essential to eudaimonia—the flourishing life described by Socrates and Aristotle. Drawing on theories of meaning-making and virtues-centered living, this research argues that suffering can create the conditions that can cultivate perseverance, resilience, hope, and relational intimacy, all of which are vital for human flourishing. This article examines the evolving landscape of sexual consent law through the lens of trauma-informed legal analysis, focusing on the underrecognized trauma response known as fawning. Existing consent frameworks fail to capture the complex behaviors of many survivors who outwardly feign consent as a survival mechanism. To assess how fawning evidence might fit into consent statutes, I categorize U.S. state law into four subtypes of consent: affirmative, hybrid, forcible compulsion, and statutory silence. Each sub-type fails to adequately account for trauma-informed behaviors. By examining each of these subtypes and its corresponding case law, I identify statutory and doctrinal gaps that …

For most, the audio of a deceased loved one is a treasured keepsake. For the families of violent crime victims, it can be a harrowing reminder of their loved one’s death. And it can also be a source of content for true crime podcasters.

When a person dies from a violent crime and their killer is prosecuted, the audio associated with the crime (body camera footage, 911 calls, surveillance footage, etc.) frequently becomes public record. This Article explores the growing yet underexamined role of the commercial cyber insurance market in shaping the United States' approach to cybersecurity readiness. It argues that, as cyber threats against U.S. critical infrastructure and essential services increase, commercial cyber insurance has quietly come to function as a de facto governance tool in national cybersecurity. We introduce the Self-Exemplar Illumination Equalization Network, designed specifically for effective portrait shadow removal. The core idea of our method is that partially shadowed portraits can find ideal exemplars within their non-shadowed facial regions. Rather than directly fusing two distinct classes of facial features, our approach utilizes non-shadowed regions as an illumination indicator to equalize the shadowed regions, generating deshadowed results without boundary-merging artifacts. Our network comprises cascaded Self-Exemplar Illumination Equalization Blocks (SExmBlock), each containing two modules: a self-exemplar feature matching module and a feature-level illumination rectification module. We evaluate the effects of mandatory disclosures of firm-specific gender wage gaps in Brazil—the first developing country to enact a large-scale pay transparency law. The mandate took effect in 2023, automatically releasing to the public government-curated reports showing firm-specific gender wage gaps, separately by major occupational groups, for formal sector firms with 100 employees or more. Regression discontinuity estimates on outcomes one year after the release show that the mandated disclosures had no effects on the gender wage ratio, average wages for men or women, or the number of occupations within firms. Signaling is wasteful. But how wasteful? We study the fraction of surplus dissipated in a separating equilibrium. For isoelastic environments, this waste ratio has a simple formula: β/(β + σ), where β is the benefit elasticity (reward to higher perception) and σ is the elasticity of higher types’ relative cost advantage. The ratio is constant across types and is independent of other parameters, including convexity of cost in the signal. We show that the directional effects of β and σ on waste extend to non-isoelastic environments.

We study the design of efficient dynamic recommendation systems, such as AI shopping assistants, in which a platform interacts with a user over multiple rounds to identify the most suitable product among those offered by advertisers. Advertisers have multi-dimensional private information: their private value from a purchase and private information about the user’s preferences. In each round, the platform displays recommendations; the user learns product characteristics of the shown items and then chooses whether to purchase, exit without purchasing, or submit a new query. These actions generate a stream of feedback—purchase, exit, and follow-up queries—that is informative about the user’s …

This qualitative study employed a two-phase design consisting of a sociorhetorical analysis of 2 Timothy and a phenomenological study of four Assemblies of God ministers who experienced turnover intention but remained in ministry because of a mentor’s intervention. The project addresses a critical gap in nursing education by implementing a structured, evidencebased educational intervention led by an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) to improve nurses’ knowledge of metabolic syndrome in residential care facilities. The purpose was to determine whether this intervention could significantly enhance nurses’ understanding and management of metabolic syndrome, a complex cluster of disorders present in adult populations. Nine nurses participated in targeted educational sessions focusing on definition, diagnosis, complications, and evidence-based prevention and management strategies. Each participant completed the Metabolic Syndrome Knowledge Scale (MSKS) questionnaire before and after the intervention to assess changes in knowledge. …

Integrating cryptocurrency has become a key management challenge in increasingly digital and regulated financial environments. This paper argues that digital asset adoption should be understood not simply as technological disruption, but as an adaptive strategic response to regulatory transformation, institutional uncertainty, and competitive pressure. Drawing on financial innovation theory, dynamic capabilities, and institutional theory, the research develops conceptual propositions explaining when and how firms should integrate decentralized assets. Through a strategic, non-empirical analysis of regulatory developments and governance shifts, the paper presents a framework for aligning cryptocurrency adoption with firm performance, risk management, and compliance.

The volatility of electricity price presents a challenge to market participants as their decision-making process are highly depend on the accuracy of price forecasts. However, there is growing empirical evidence of increasing price volatility and price spikes in electricity markets as a result of variable renewable energy generation, extreme weather events, and other factors. The distribution shift caused by spikes in electricity price data differentiates the forecasting tasks from other renewable energy sources. This thesis investigates whether Bitcoin behaves as a hedge or a risk asset in Brazil under domestic and global monetary policy shocks. Using monthly data from 2016 to 2024, the analysis examines the relationship between Bitcoin returns (in BRL), the USD/BRL exchange rate, the Brazilian Selic rate, and the U.S. Federal Funds Rate. To account for volatility clustering and time-varying risk commonly observed in cryptocurrency markets, the study employs a GARCH(1,1) framework to model both conditional returns and volatility. This Article argues that addressing one of the most urgent environmental challenges facing humanity today—the global climate and biodiversity crisis—calls for a transformation at the heart of corporate law: its fiduciary duties. After demonstrating how current corporate fiduciary duties are implicated in this crisis, we argue for reform of fiduciary duties operating at two levels: those governing directors and officers of business corporations, and those governing institutional investors and asset managers. We then distinguish between two general kinds of corporate fiduciary duties: permissive and mandatory. There exists a type of expressive property outlaw—the guerrilla gardener. Guerrilla gardening is the practice of gardening without the legal right to do so. The practice of guerrilla gardening can sometimes take on rooted permanence, and as a result, progressively higher stakes. Guerrilla gardeners can operate over years, planting plots of greenery in areas where their hard work can be removed, quite literally, overnight. Geothermal energy holds vast potential for decarbonizing the U.S. energy system, yet the sector remains significantly underdeveloped, supplying only 0.4% of the nation's electricity. A principal barrier to growth is the fragmented and ambiguous legal landscape currently governing ownership of geothermal resources: thirty-three states lack any clear statutory or common-law framework identifying who owns subsurface thermal energy.
