Reversible phosphorylation is a crucial post-translational modification (PTM) that modulates a variety of signaling pathways intracellularly, with aberrant protein phosphorylation being a hallmark of many human diseases. Kinases, which catalyze phosphorylation of their substrates, have been extensively studied in the context of the signaling pathways they regulate and their effects on cellular processes. In contrast, phosphoprotein phosphatases (PPPs), which catalyze the removal of phosphate groups from substrate proteins, have only recently come to the research spotlight. Over the past five decades, ferrate(VI) (FeO42–) for water and wastewater treatment has remained largely at the laboratory scale, with limited pilot- and full-scale implementation. This gap between sustained research and scarce real-world deployment places the technology in the Valley of Death─a high-risk stage of development─and highlights the need for an engineering-centric approach to enable practical application. This article presents an engineering framework to guide the development and translation of ferrate(VI) technology for water and wastewater treatment. The "Quiet Professionals": Oral Histories Of The United States Special Forces Veterans Of The Global War On Terror, Chase Rumbley

This thesis examines how United States Army Special Forces veterans of the Global War on Terror narrate the identity of the "Quiet Professional" across training, deployment, and post-service life. Drawing on oral history interviews with four retired Green Berets, as well as archival and material culture analysis, the study approaches Special Forces as a distinctive military institution shaped by narrative, institutional formation, and war. It argues that Special Forces ethos is not a fixed warrior identity, but a lived and contested achievement produced through rites of passage, embodied hardship, informal legitimacy, and collective memory. The rapid expansion of data-driven technologies, particularly machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI), has substantially influenced biomedical research and drug discovery. In neuropharmacology, the availability of large-scale genomic, proteomic, chemical, and clinical datasets has stimulated the adoption of AI-based approaches to address persistent challenges in neurological drug development, including high attrition rates and the scarcity of disease-modifying therapies. Background/aim: Determining the current burden of asthma in countries is important in the diagnosis and follow-up of asthma patients and for the development of national health policies. Our study aimed to clarify the epidemiological and clinical data regarding asthmatic adults in Türkiye.

Materials and methods: The study was designed as a nationwide descriptive, observational cross-sectional study. Fifty years ago, the U.S. embarked on a radical new path. Under pressure from the environmental movement, Congress passed an array of statutes aimed at regulating carcinogens out of our world. This regulatory experiment sprawled from air and water to food and consumer products.

Legal scholars have paid scant attention to this wave of cancer regulation despite its size and importance and the public’s apparent interest in avoiding carcinogens. This Article makes an argument that should be obvious. The best way for governments to right the wrongs of cannabis prohibition is to give money to people with cannabis offenses. Nonetheless, this straightforward reform has been consistently overlooked, dismissed, or minimized by policymakers and scholars alike, eschewed in favor of other social equity programs that do not right those wrongs nearly as effectively. Governments have indeed invested hundreds of millions of cannabis tax dollars in social equity licensing programs and community reinvestment initiatives. These programs—while often worthwhile—do not benefit the vast majority of people with past cannabis offenses.

For over a century, open fields doctrine has shaped Fourth Amendment law, denying people the right to be secure on their own property. Its impact has steadily expanded, with the result that, by some estimates, the government can now engage in warrantless surveillance of some 96% of private land and buildings regardless of fences, postings, the distance from public roads or byways, or the use to which the property is put. In chapter 11 bankruptcy voting procedures, the issue of non-voting impaired classes can be a complicated issue, but the Southern District of Texas’s new “nonfactor” approach can be used as a lens through which different solutions to this issue may be understood. The United States Bankruptcy Code states that a bankruptcy plan may only be confirmed if every impaired class votes to accept the plan. A viable alternative for adjudicating issues under 35 U.S.C. § 112(a) of the Patent Act is needed due to the difficulties of trying these issues to a lay jury. Congress agreed when it enacted the America Invents Act (“AIA”), which created alternative proceedings for challenging patent validity post-grant, including post-grant review (“PGR”) and inter partes review (“IPR”). In theory, PGR proceedings permit the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent and Trademark Office to adjudicate whether one or more claims of a patent are valid on § 112 grounds. The Supreme Court’s stance on the death penalty has evolved over time. In Furman v. Georgia, the Court held that the death penalty violated the Eighth Amendment, only to reinstate it in Gregg v. Georgia four years later.  As the Court continued to interpret “evolving standards of decency,” it later categorically barred the execution of defendants with an intellectual disability in Atkins v. Virginia.  To determine if an individual is intellectually disabled, they must demonstrate subaverage adaptive skills that existed before age eighteen.  The Court has also recognized that IQ scores carry a ±5 margin of error and has …

Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide, largely due to late-stage diagnosis. Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening has demonstrated significant mortality reduction in high-risk populations; however, its widespread implementation is limited by high false-positive rates, inter-reader variability, and substantial workflow burden. Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a promising adjunct to address these challenges by enhancing diagnostic consistency, efficiency, and risk stratification in LDCT-based screening. Background: Oscillatory shear stress (OSS), resulting from disturbed blood flow, is implicated in atherosclerotic plaque formation by incompletely understood mechanisms. This study aims to elucidate the involvement of death-associated protein kinase (DAPK) 2 in OSS-induced endothelial cell (EC) activation and atherosclerosis.

Methods: Publicly available resources, including genome-wide microarray, RNA sequencing, and single-cell RNA sequencing, were utilized to identify key OSS-sensitive regulatory factors. Techniques such as mass spectrometry, immunoprecipitation, proximity ligation assay, and RNA sequencing were employed to identify pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) as the binding protein of DAPK2 and determine the specific site of PKM2 phosphorylation by DAPK2. Background/aim: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive disorder with systemic vasculopathy, and noninvasive assessment remains challenging. The retina, sharing anatomical similarities with the cerebral microcirculation, is an accessible site for visualizing systemic vascular compromise. This study quantitatively evaluated retinal microvascular and neuroretinal structural changes in PAH patients compared to healthy controls using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).

Materials and methods: In this single-center, cross-sectional case-control study, 40 patients with group 1 PAH and 38 healthy controls were enrolled. Background/aim: Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) plays a vital role in preventing transmission among healthcare workers following occupational exposure. Despite its clinical importance, epidemiological data regarding PEP implementation in Türkiye remain scarce. This study aimed to assess PEP practices, prophylactic treatment regimens, and follow-up outcomes among healthcare workers at risk of occupational HIV exposure.

Attacker-in-the-middle (AitM) phishing toolkits have emerged as a critical threat to enterprise and individual security by enabling adversaries to bypass multi-factor authentication (MFA) and compromise cloud-based accounts at scale. Traditional detection techniques--such as IP blocklists or content-based detection methods--are often ineffective against these increasingly sophisticated attacks. We propose a novel method that detects malicious proxies by identifying artifacts they introduce into HTTP request headers. To evaluate our approach, we systematically analyze traffic passed through several open-source AitM toolkits and proxies, identifying distinct modifications to header structures and content, then formalize these features as YARA rules for automated use.
