If It’S A Fit, Perhaps They’Ll Stick: An Examination Of Black Women Teachers, Perceptions Of Fit With Their Schools, And Their Retention In American Public Schools, Taylor M. Young

This dissertation examines how perceived person-organization (PO) fit between Black women teachers (BWTs) and characteristics of their respective schools influence their intention to remain at their current school. Using quantitative methods, this study explores how these characteristics predict the likelihood of retention. The study centered (n = 85) BWTs within a full sample of women teachers (N = 125). The findings revealed that perceived PO fit with colleagues, teaching assignment, and student population predicted a higher likelihood of remaining at their current school for both BWTs and the full sample. A Meta-Analysis On Joinder Effects: Do They All Have The Same Magnitude?, Amelia M. Tisk

The present meta-analysis examined whether different forms of joinder and procedural consolidation produce varying levels of prejudice in adjudicative decision-making. Although joinder procedures improve judicial efficiency, psychological research has suggested that combining charges, defendants, or plaintiffs within a single proceeding may increase conviction likelihood, liability judgments, and broader perceptions of wrongdoing. A random-effects meta-analysis was conducted across 22 independent study effects examining charge joinder, defendant consolidation, plaintiff consolidation, multiple-complainant procedures, and related aggregation paradigms. Effect sizes were converted to Pearson’s r whenever possible. Overall, procedural aggregation produced a moderate effect on adjudicative outcomes, r = .27, 95% CI [.22, .32]. …

This research examines how play-based learning (PBL) interventions can serve as a framework for systemic change. Waldenström’s Macroglobulinemia (WM) is a rare non-Hodgkin lymphoma characterized by the increased presence of monoclonal IgM circulating in the blood and the infiltration of lymphoplasmacytic cells into the bone marrow. WM cells are heterogeneous, sharing features of both B-lymphocytes and plasma cells while not being able to terminally differentiate. Our labs’ previous work established that inhibiting and knocking down the GLI2 transcription factor effectively reduces IgM secretion in three different WM cell lines. This observed phenotype was discovered to operate through IL-6Rα signaling but whether IgM was regulated transcriptionally was not assessed. This qualitative study examined how national, state, and institutional policies impact teacher certification processes and influence the experiences of stakeholders in educator preparation programs (EPPs), including administrators, professors, and teacher candidates. Guided by Astin’s Input-Environment-Output (I-E-O) model, this research examined how inputs such as policy mandates, institutional culture, and candidate demographics interact with educational environments to produce diverse outcomes in teacher preparation, certification, and retention. Data were collected through semistructured interviews, questionnaires, document analysis, and policy review across two university EPPs, one in Texas and one in Arkansas. In 2022, in New York State Rifle & Pistol Ass’n v. Bruen, the Supreme Court revolutionized the Second Amendment, achieving the long-held conservative goal of limiting gun restrictions by imposing an expansive, originalist view of the right to bear arms. However, within just three years, Bruen is showing cracks. Lower court judges are struggling mightily to apply it and are expressing their frustrations in exceptionally frank ways. The Supreme Court applies the territorial framework of international law to resolve disputes over the reach of state power. Under this framework, a state’s power is coterminous with its borders, such that a state’s regulatory power within its territory is limited only by federal law. The Court recently used this framework to overrule an obscure line of Dormant Commerce Clause cases that held that a state regulation of local conduct could have impermissible extraterritorial effects.

Despite the long history of transgender people and transgender care, state legislatures suddenly rushed to pass a wave of bans on gender-affirming medical care for trans youth over a three-year period beginning in 2021—an alarming surge within a flurry of legal attacks on the transgender community. Cognitive flexibility is an executive function that involves dynamically adapting behavior in the face of changing environmental circumstances to achieve a particular goal. Disrupted in numerous psychiatric disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia, OCD, and depression, the neural correlates of cognitive flexibility are not well understood. However, the prefrontal cortex (PFC) is strongly implicated in executive function and attentional control processes. This paper examines the relationship between the great powers at the Congress of Vienna, 1814-1815, and the weaker states for whom they attempted to dictate decisions. By looking at critics of the Congress, a pattern of debate between advocates of balance of power and advocates of national sovereignty becomes apparent. Beginning with debates regarding the Congress’ organizational structure, disagreements between figures such as Viscount Castlereagh and Prince Talleyrand focused on disputes about the authority the leaders of the great powers attempted to wield. This thesis examines the factors driving state legislatures to restructure judicial ethics commissions. Although judicial autonomy is foundational to the American legal system, these reforms signal a growing legislative willingness to exert direct influence over the bench. Store-operated calcium entry (SOCE) through calcium release-activated

calcium (CRAC) channels is the dominant pathway for sustained Ca2+ influx in

non-excitable cells and is essential for T cell activation, driving downstream

signaling through the calcineurin-NFAT transcriptional axis. Dysregulation of

SOCE produces multi-systemic disease phenotypes, establishing that precise,

spatiotemporally controlled modulation of this pathway is a fundamental

therapeutic requirement. ML-9 is one of the only characterized small molecules

capable of targeting SOCE upstream at the level of STIM1 localization, but lacks

the selectivity, pharmacokinetic properties, and spatiotemporal control necessary

for therapeutic development.

The purpose of this interpretive qualitative study was to examine eight preschool lead teachers’ perceptions of the behaviors of Black girls, with a specific focus on those leading instruction in classrooms of 3- and 4-year-old learners, to assess if their perceptions of the behaviors of Black preschool-aged girls influenced their discipline practices and behavior management. The findings of this study revealed that preschool lead teachers held positive perceptions and early adultified views, also known as adultification bias, of Black girls in preschool settings. Furthermore, early adultified views of preschool lead teachers toward Black preschool-aged girls did not correlate with discriminatory …

This project seeks to study how artisanal fishers in northern coastal Peru interpret and respond to environmental change provoked by three sources of harm: climate change, overfishing, and contamination. Drawing from six and a half weeks of ethnographic fieldwork among artisanal fishers in Lobitos, Peru, this paper foregrounds the concept of the nearshore assemblage to highlight the ever-shifting relations between humans and marine ecologies that constitute littoral and oceanic worlds. Artisanal fishers utilize discriminatory, non-mechanical methods to fish in a protected section of Peru’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Three deposits of perinates, infants, and young children within two non-residential superstructures of Buenavista del Cayo, Belize, display evidence of daily maintenance and care. A total of ten subadult individuals, aged 39.4 weeks gestation to 3 years, from the archaeological site of Buenavista were recovered during 2018 excavations. Signs of care and daily maintenance include survivorship through the vulnerable neonatal period (first twenty-eight days) and transition into infancy, survivorship with potential pinprick lesions on external and internal zygomatic, parietal, and pars basilaris, and intentional maintenance of the body after death. Campus carry legislation remains one of the most contested higher education policy issues in the United States, particularly in states where concealed carry permit holders may legally carry firearms on public college campuses. These characteristics enable excellent spectral and power efficiency, allow compatibility with nonlinear amplifiers, and make CPM particularly attractive for power- and bandwidth-constrained applications such as satellite and deep space communications. Chronic infected wounds remain a major clinical challenge because elevated reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the wound microenvironment sustain inflammation, damage regenerating tissue, and limit the effectiveness of conventional antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory therapy. To address this problem, this study aimed to develop ROS-responsive thioketal-capped mesoporous silica nanoparticles (TK-MSNs) for the dual delivery of moxifloxacin (MOX) and curcumin (CUR) to support the management of infected wounds. The traditional memory theory of personal identity relies on an implicit storage model of memory to explain how the self persists over time. This model assumes that memories endure as stable representations that can be accurately retrieved, and that such representational continuity grounds diachronic identity. However, contemporary cognitive science demonstrates that remembering is an active and reconstructive process. Each act of recall reorganizes and transforms prior experience during the window of ecphory. This reconstructive reality poses a significant philosophical challenge. If memory is inherently unstable and transformable, it cannot straightforwardly ground the kind of continuity the theory requires.

Wallen has also crafted his own image of what it means to be “country,” distilling it into the usual, hyper-recognizable motifs of whiskey and trucks while transitioning them onto new media platforms. In addition, Wallen maintains his small-town Tennessee boy image despite conquering massive digital landscapes. This thesis examines the emerging question of what constitutes “queer food.” It asks how this concept takes on a distinct regional form in the United States South. Drawing on oral histories, archival materials, and cookbooks, it argues that queer southern foodways are not only a subset of queer food studies, but also a distinct cultural and political formation shaped by southern histories of race, labor, family, and survival. The thesis makes the case that queer southern foodways function simultaneously as protest, utopian practice, and aesthetic pleasure.
