Academic freedom faces an existential crisis. The Trump administration, building on a movement that began in the states, is seeking ideological conquest of higher education. Some universities have already surrendered. Others fight on, facing an endless barrage of assaults on their institutional autonomy. Faculty too have chosen to resist, relying on their free expression rights. One of the most potent weapons in higher education’s arsenal is the constitutional academic freedom doctrine, a First Amendment protection that safeguards faculty’s academic expression and universities’ academic judgments. Weak measurement (WM) offers the advantage of amplifying small signals at the cost of postselecting a small portion of the probes. This so-called weak-value amplification effect makes it compare favorably with conventional techniques (without postselection) to overcome various technical noises. However, certain types of technical noise, such as jitter and pixelation, present insurmountable limitations for both WM and conventional techniques. In this work, we propose an advanced variant of WM that incorporates time-momentum correlation (TMC) into biased weak measurement (BWM). By employing the Fisher information metric, we theoretically show that TMC-BWM can overcome jitter and pixelation, and meanwhile extract significantly …

Same-Subject Induction Experiences For Elementary Music Teachers: Teacher Efficacy Beliefs, Experiences Of Isolation, And Job Satisfaction, Wendy Tams Hickman

This survey study seeks to explain the relationships between elementary music teachers' experiences with same-subject induction support and those teachers' feelings of teacher efficacy, experiences of isolation, and job satisfaction. Independent variables came from latent class groupings of same-subject induction support for beginning elementary music teachers. Teacher background variables were also included as controls. Three- and four-step regression models helped provide understanding about how the relative set of predictors--teacher background variables, isolation levels, induction experiences, and interaction terms--predicted the three outcomes. Not since the phrase "Ain't I a Woman" has African American women's intellectual leadership and insight been as visible and influential as the contemporary concept of intersectionality. Like Sojourner Truth's iconic intellectual intervention in the anti-slavery movement, intersectionality has experienced a similar trajectory of dissolution, distortion, appropriation, and popularization. Since its articulation by Black legal scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw in 1989, intersectionality theory has had a bumpy road to its buzzy, if controversial, status in the firmament of twenty-first-century political thought.

This thesis traces the origins of intersectionality theory through three distinct but intertwined phases. Phase one is the genealogy of …

Mitochondria–endoplasmic reticulum (ER) contact sites (MERCS) are nanoscopic, dynamic platforms integrating metabolism, signaling, and stress responses to regulate cell fate. These nanoscopic interfaces remodel continuously to meet the demands of proliferating, quiescent, and senescent cells. We synthesize evidence that MERCS actively coordinate local Ca2+ signaling, non-vesicular lipid transfer, and proteostasis to shape mitochondrial function and cellular homeostasis. We discuss how MERCS architecture changes across the cell cycle and during arrest, distinguishing adaptive from maladaptive remodeling, and consider therapeutic potential in aging and age-related disease.

This paper examines how the Grimm Brothers’ Kinder- und Hausmärchen (final edition, 1857) encode hunger as a structuring condition of both narrative and social order. Furthermore, it explores how these tales articulate the fragile and often unstable nature of abundance, from the perspective of food studies. Drawing on a corpus-based approach, the study highlights the predominance of a restricted alimentary lexicon centered on staple foods (such as bread, wine, beer, milk, and porridge) reflecting a subsistence economy rather than a state of plenitude. In December 2024, Syria’s long-standing Assad regime was overthrown, and the country entered a new era of post-conflict reconstruction. This study explores the narratives Syrians in the diaspora are constructing about this regime change and the new era for Syrian society. To do so, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 16 Syrians in the diaspora of various backgrounds and analyzed using an inductive narrative analysis to see which themes emerged. The findings were further organized to understand how these narratives may contribute to perpetuating conflict or promoting peacebuilding and reconciliation. GospodinA is an artistic research project exploring the domestic politics of food, care, and survival during the last decade of socialist Romania. Between 1980 and 1989, a period marked by chronic shortages and state-controlled food policies, daily cooking became an act of crisis management. The project investigates how gestures of cooking, queuing, preserving, and urban foraging constituted both invisible labour and quiet resistance within a system that sought to regulate bodies and appetites. The paper focuses on the story of the Fra i Monti winery in Terelle, a small village located in Italy's Comino Valley, in the province of Frosinone, about 110 km southeast of Rome. This is a paradigmatic territory of agricultural Italy, where between the early 1950s and the mid-1970s, industrialisation and urbanisation shaped the figure of the “metal- mezzadro,” half factory worker and half farmer in the fields, leading to the progressive abandonment of the countryside because it did not offer a secure salary and to the relentless disappearance of farming and wine-making traditions. This paper is three-fold. The first section enacts a process of “fielding,” generating what might appear as a genealogy of practitioners, but is rather an interdisciplinary collection of precedents, that when drawn into relation, constitute a field—defined by yet redefining each precedent. The field that is drawn into relation here uncovers a compulsion toward planetary healing in the post-war period—a compulsion that appears to have been reactivated today.
