Urban middle schools often grapple with how to create spaces that affirm students’ identities and foster authentic engagement within a broader landscape shaped by standardized testing and accountability pressures. This dissertation examines Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) and advisory as two relationally grounded practices that can address these challenges. Grounded in critical hope (Zembylas, 2013), culturally sustaining pedagogy (Paris & Alim, 2017), and community responsive education (Duncan-Andrade, 2022), the study explores the experiences of 12 middle school students who spent seven months investigating their school’s advisory program as student-researchers, as well as the findings that emerged about advisory. Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) pose significant health challenges globally, with South Asian seniors in the United States facing elevated risks due to high rates of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and limited health literacy. This study assessed dementia literacy and the prevalence of cardiovascular, psychosocial, and lifestyle risk factors among South Asian seniors in New York City, utilizing community-based participatory research (CBPR) principles in collaboration with India Home, a community-based organization. The current study examined whether court-substantiated childhood maltreatment may be associated with increased risk for Complex PTSD (CPTSD) and whether individuals with CPTSD and individuals with PTSD could be distinguished in terms of complex trauma exposure. Children with documented cases of abuse and neglect prior to age 11 were matched on age, race, sex, and approximate family socioeconomic status with children without documented histories of maltreatment (controls) and both groups were followed prospectively into adulthood. This study examines how oil futures respond to monetary policy shocks arising from FOMC and ECB target-rate announcements, using high-frequency data. The results indicate that both sets of announcements significantly influence oil futures prices. However, FOMC decisions have a more pronounced effect on oil futures, whereas ECB interest rate surprises predominantly have a limited impact on the oil futures return and volatility. The analysis further uncovers an asymmetric response to positive versus negative interest rate shocks. These findings enhance the understanding of how monetary policy surprises are transmitted to oil futures markets. Therefore, these results have important implications for policymakers …

In this study, we introduce the concept of a bi-Riordan array. As part of this construction, we define new composition and power operations. We then establish an analogue of the well-known fundamental theorem of Riordan arrays (FTRA), which we call the fundamental theorem of bi-Riordan arrays. Next, we show that the product of two bi-Riordan matrices is again a bi-Riordan matrix. Using this product structure, we prove that the set of bi-Riordan matrices forms a monoid.

We show that compactness of orthogonally additive operators between Banach lattices is not preserved under taking the modulus by providing a nonlinear analogue of Krengel’s example. In contrast, for operators acting from a Banach lattice into an AM-space, AM-compactness is stable under lattice operations. Moreover, the space of absolutely norm bounded AM-compactorthogonally additive operators from a Banach lattice into an AM-space is a Banach lattice, and on such AM-spaces with the weak Fatou property, norm boundedness coincides with absolute norm boundedness.

This paper investigates the exponential stability of a strongly damped wave equation subject to an internal distributed time delay. Two distinct analytical frameworks are developed: the first employs a modified energy method based on auxiliary functionals, while the second introduces a transformation that rewrites the delay term as the derivative of a convolution integral. Both approaches yield explicit decay conditions and establish exponential convergence of the energy under weaker assumptions on the damping coefficient and the delay kernel. Notably, the transformation method allows for a wider class of admissible delay weights than those permitted by classical techniques. Numerical simulations based …

In this study, we investigate Clairaut conformal submersions in the context of total manifolds that support a Ricci soliton structure. We begin by deriving the scalar curvature and Ricci tensor expressions associated with these manifolds, and we establish criteria under which the fibres can be characterized as almost Ricci solitons or Einstein manifolds. Additionally, we identify the conditions required for the base manifold to admit Ricci soliton and Einstein structures. ​In this paper, we investigate Hyers–Ulam and Hyers–Ulam–Rassias stability for fractional linear Hahn difference equations of Caputo Type. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work concerning Hyers–Ulam type stability in the framework of Caputo fractional Hahn difference equations, thereby filling a significant gap in the literature on fractional stability theory. Our approach is based on establishing an equivalence between the fractional Hahn difference initial value problem and a corresponding fractional integral equation, via the Caputo–Hahn inversion formula. Scholarship on intelligence ethics centers on operations, leaving the ethics of intelligence education and capacity-building under-theorized. This article develops retrospective moral reappraisal (RMR): the delayed moral reclassification of earlier teaching as ethically compromised when political transition and new public knowledge recontextualize what that teaching may have enabled. It argues that RMR is a pathway to moral injury because the injurious event is later learning—not the original classroom act—that one’s contribution is now plausibly implicated in harm. We explore the complexities of managing beaver (Castor canadensis) conflicts in North America, describing the most common approaches used by natural resource management agencies to address conflicts. We identify specific conflicts caused by beavers, the ecological benefits beavers provide, and the tools commonly used to address conflicts. We discuss regional differences in beaver management strategies, including ecosystem restoration and conflict prevention. We specifically discuss a variety of management practices including public education, land use management, trapping, translocation, exclusion, shooting, dam removal, repellants, and harvest incentive programs; we then review the challenges and benefits of these tools. Background: Based on renal injury reported in critically ill and septic patients, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a black box warning regarding hydroxyethyl starch (HES 130/0.4) use in 2013 and expanded the warning to surgical and trauma patients in 2021. Similarly, the European Medicines Agency initiated withdrawal of hydroxyethyl starch in 2022. This study was a new meta-analysis focused on renal injury designed to complement a 2021 meta-analysis of perioperative hydroxyethyl starch use, adding 45 trials and 6,895 patients. The focus was acute kidney injury and preoperative-to-postoperative change in creatinine concentration in surgical patients.

We could estimate the dose, monitor her organs, and hope the toxicity would not outpace the benefits, but there was no high-quality clinical trial data proving it was safe for kids like her yet, despite congressional mandates. PURPOSE: This study assessed whether greater physical activity (PA) and lesser sedentary behavior (SB) reduce hospitalization risk equally among those with and without prediabetes, diabetes, or peripheral artery disease (PAD).

METHODS: We studied PA, SB and hospitalizations in 12,734 adults from the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos, who were 52.2% female with mean (standard deviation) age 41.1 (14.9) yr at baseline. Participants reported 10,025 nonpregnancy-related hospitalizations (excluding emergency room only) over 13 yr. BACKGROUND: Coverage of obesity pharmacotherapy for youth varies substantially across state Medicaid programs. This variability limits access to evidence-based treatment for pediatric obesity. The Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) benefit is a federally mandated Medicaid provision requiring coverage of medically necessary services for individuals under age 21, even when such services are not included in standard state Medicaid benefits. Despite its broad scope, EPSDT remains underutilized due to limited awareness and operational complexity.

Post-mining governance in coal-producing regions is often unable to translate regulatory compliance into actual ecological recovery, as evidenced by East Kalimantan's environmental challenges. Therefore, this study aimed to examine implementation gaps in Indonesia's legal framework for reclamation and propose legal reforms grounded in ecological justice. A socio-legal method was used to integrate normative analysis, semi-structured interviews with 12 multi-level stakeholders, and comparative assessments of Australia, South Africa, and India. This dissertation investigates the trend of musical borrowings of 1970s MPB (música popular brasileira) by contemporary American hip-hop producers, especially in terms of what they have called a “Brazilian vibe.” A lot has been said about sampling already from legal, sociological, and historical points of view, but less has been said about its aesthetic procedures, and even less about the wider implications of a tendency for using transnational sources. This dissertation constructs a discursive genealogy of Black women’s storytelling, positioning its art and aesthetics as a form of colonial archival undoing. Each chapter explores how transmission and documentation can transform—and circumvent—traditional colonial archives.
