Practicing teachers (n=95) completed a survey in correlational research conducted to determine the extent to which, and the ways in which, they reported learning losses among English Language Learners stemming from the Covid-19 pandemic. Two candidate factors were examined: language proficiencies (L1 and L2) and language modalities (listening, speaking, reading, writing). Students weak in both languages showed the largest losses, and students strong in both, the smallest. Low L-2 students suffered larger losses than high-L2 students regardless of L1 proficiency. In speaking skills, when L2 is weak, low-L1 students had larger losses than high-L1 students. Teachers reported no significant differences …

This study investigates the variance in brightness temperature (BT) within simulated satellite footprints for Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSE), focusing specifically on Channels 5 and 11 of the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit (AMSU-A). High-resolution atmospheric simulations from the DYnamics of the Atmospheric general circulation Modeled On Non-hydrostatic Domains (DYAMOND) dataset were utilized to generate brightness temperature data using the Python interface for the Community Radiative Transfer Model (PyCRTM). Inherited arrhythmia syndromes (IAS) are a group of rare disorders that result from genetic mutations in several genes including congenital long QT syndrome, Brugada syndrome (BrS), short QT syndrome, and Catecholaminergic Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia (CPVT). Affected individuals may have various symptoms including sudden cardiac death (SCD). Few reports have highlighted long QT syndrome from the Arbian Gulf region. Date palm cultivation is vital to agriculture in arid regions, but essential tasks like pollination, pruning, pesticide application, and harvesting remain labor-intensive, hazardous, and inefficient. While mechanized solutions exist, they are costly, complex, and less adaptable, making traditional manual methods still widely used. This study presents the Multi-Task Robot for Date Palm Crops, designed and visualized using SolidWorks CAD modeling to automate key farming tasks. The robotic system integrates mechanical components and task-specific tools optimized for precision and adaptability. A paradox lies at the heart of the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle’s analyses of the best type of hero in a tragedy as outlined in his Poetics, his account of women as less able to deliberate than men in his Politics Book 1, and the actual moral stature of women in the surviving tragedies. This illustrated lecture examines the tensions between his remarks about male-female relationships in his ethical and political works and his admiration for Greek tragedy, with special reference to Aeschylus’s Agamemnon, Sophocles’s Antigone, and Euripides’s Medea.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the consistency of MP-DNA load in the respiratory tracts, its correlation with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) manifestations, and its predictive value for refractory M. pneumoniae pneumonia (RMPP).

Methods: A retrospective study was performed on a cohort of MPP cases, including 215 patients with positive nasopharyngeal aspirate (NPA) MP-DNA and 59 with positive bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) MP-DNA. Patients were categorized into two groups based on MP-DNA load: low-load (≤106/mL) and high-load (>106/mL). Objective: To provide an insight into the presentation, diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal tuberculosis in children.

Methods: We reviewed the medical records of children who were diagnosed with gastrointestinal tuberculosis, between October 2013 and October 2023. The analysis was performed using descriptive statistics.

Results: During the study period, 11 of 76 tuberculosis pediatric patients (14.5%) were diagnosed with gastrointestinal tuberculosis. Six of 11 patients (54.5%) were female. The median age of the patients was 60 months (51-205 months). Eight of 11 patients had intra-abdominal lymph node involvement, 3 of 11 patients had intestinal tuberculosis and 2 of 11 patients had …

This study analyzed the portrayal of disabilities in picturebooks that have received the Schneider Family Award, a well-known children’s literature award in the United States focused on disability representation. The purpose of the study was to conduct an intersectional analysis of these picturebooks to explore how characters are positioned across multiple categories such as disability, race/ethnicity, gender, class, age, and language. Using the Rating Scale for Quality Characterizations of Individuals with Disabilities in Children’s Literature, the study analyzed all 17 picturebooks appropriate for early childhood that received the Schneider Family Award from 2004 to 2020. How do Muslim women balance their religious agency and political aspirations? Gender quotas have been used across the African continent to improve women's political visibility since the 1990s. Senegal's own experiment with gender equality in 2010 faced political barriers as well as religious ones. The author sheds light on how Muslim women activists in Senegal shaped women's place in their communities through the gender parity law. The Music Industry Technical Camp (MITC) is a public-private partnership designed by DianJen and delivered in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts in Trinidad and Tobago. Its focus is on providing intensive practical training on the business and technical aspects of the music industry to persons 18-65 years of age and comprises 90 hours of instruction delivered over a six-week period. Kaposi’s Sarcoma Associated Herpes Virus (KSHV or HHV-8) is a γ-herpesvirus implicated in multiple lymphoproliferative human cancers and immune dysregulatory diseases. Like other herpesviruses, KSHV has a biphasic mode of infection primarily orchestrated by two viral proteins: the Latency-Associated Nuclear Antigen (LANA), which promotes viral persistence through latency, and the Replication and Transcription Activator (RTA), which triggers lytic reactivation. During latency, the KSHV genome exists as a highly heterochromatinized, extrachromosomal episome in the nucleus, which can be reverted to euchromatin in response to certain stimuli, like stress. Music played many roles in detention centres during Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship in Chile (1973-1990), as political prisoners played, listened to, wrote, and taught music. Testimonies of survivors describe a variety of musical practices which reflect the political and social realities of their incarceration. While authorities used music to torture and degrade political prisoners, music was also a tool for communication, community-building, catharsis, and entertainment.
