The current academic climate shows that students entering nursing school do not have the emotional mindset that will allow them success and longevity post-graduation in nursing (Budler et al., 2022; Christianson, 2020; Cleary et al., 2018; Crawford et al., 2021; Dugué et al., 2021) . Students often struggle through their program, with clinical and didactic or either independently in relation to academic success or performance. Urban rewilding is an opportune avenue to connect humans to nature. Thus, the aim of this study was to understand the potential for urban re-naturing through home and health clinic gardens (HCGs). INTRODUCTION: The Box and Blocks Test (BBT) is a widely used measure of manual dexterity, but its validity and reliability as an outcome measure for upper extremity function in children with Traumatic Elbow Injuries (TEI) require further investigation. This study aimed to evaluate the BBT's test-retest reliability, sensitivity to functional change (construct validity), and discriminative validity in this specific pediatric population. METHOD: Twenty-nine children (75.9% male; age range: 6-16 years) with TEI participated in a prospective study. The term “too big to fail” became ubiquitous following the 2007-2008 Global Financial Crisis. Lawmakers, regulators, and scholars wondered if there was a better way forward than issuing an array of ad hoc bailout packages to large financial institutions. Congress, in enacting the Dodd-Frank Act, sought to address the concern by creating a new regulatory framework to resolve large financial institutions in an orderly manner.

First, Congress required too-big-to-fail institutions to file “living wills,” essentially planning documents that describe the institution’s path to a safe failure under the Bankruptcy Code—a failure that would not impact system-wide financial stability. Second, Congress …

Invariant maps are a useful tool for turbulence modelling, and the rapid growth of machine learning-based turbulence modelling research has led to renewed interest in them. They allow different turbulent states to be visualised in an interpretable manner and provide a mathematical framework to analyse or enforce realisability. Current invariant maps, however, are limited in machine learning models by the need for costly coordinate transformations and eigendecomposition at each point in the flow field. Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) patients experience shifts between non-seizing and seizing brain states, but the structural networks underlying these transitions remain undefined and poorly characterized. We detected dynamic brain states in resting-state fMRI and constructed linked structural networks utilizing multi-shell diffusion-weighted MR data. Leveraging network control theory, we interrogated the structural data for all possible brain state transitions, identifying those requiring abnormal levels of transition energy (low or high) in TLE compared to matched healthy participants (n's = 25). Results revealed three transitions requiring significantly higher energy in TLE; no abnormally low-energy transitions were observed. In HPs, transitions relied on …

While most prior surveys treat these fields in isolation, this paper provides a unified review of 256 peer reviewed publications to bridge that gap. We examine how emerging AI paradigms, such as explainable AI (XAI), AI-augmented software development, and federated learning, are shaping technological progress across both domains. This research assesses how advancements in composites material research affect communities from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, using a dual track strategy to quantitatively and qualitatively examine their impact. A keyword-based classification algorithm was applied to a sample of research papers from ScienceDirect spanning the last 24 years to quantify which engineering industries benefit most from this research. The findings indicate that the construction industry benefits the most, followed by the automotive, defense, renewable energy, and biomedical sectors. A broader qualitative analysis of the social implications of these industries was also conducted to provide context. Each sector were found to have either …

This article examines the complex and innovative personal scope of the EU Platform Work Directive 2024/2831, highlighting its dual framing around the concepts of ‘platform workers’ and the broader category of ‘persons performing platform work’. The authors explore how the Directive partially departs from traditional binary distinctions between employees and self-employed persons by introducing a more nuanced regulatory approach anchored in both labour law and data protection law. The article analyses the scope of key provisions of the Directive, showing how it confers many protections beyond the confines of the employment relationship. This report investigates and estimates racial disparities in prosecutorial decision-making in the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office (WCPO) from 2017 to 2022. The analysis relies on currently available data resources at the WCPO and examines decision-making at four different junctures in the prosecutorial process: 1) case approval (i.e., warrant authorization) and charge selection, 2) habitual-offender designation (under Michigan law), 3) plea bargaining, and 4) diversion and deferral opportunities. Racial disparities appear most visibly at the earliest stages of the criminal justice process, with People of Color substantially overrepresented in the warrant requests the WCPO receives from law enforcement. Single mothers receiving cash welfare assistance through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, may not be prepared for economic self-sufficiency due to TANF’s primary focus on employment and limited focus on self-sufficiency barriers. Past studies have found that cash welfare assistance recipients may not become self-sufficient due to low-wage employment, limited education, and the lack of a public policy-based standardization of the concept of economic self-sufficiency. Lung adenocarcinomas (LUAD) are a pressing global health problem with enduring lethality and rapidly shifting epidemiology. Proteogenomic studies integrating proteomics and post-translational modifications with genomics can identify clinical strata and oncogenic mechanisms, but have been underpowered to examine effects of ethnicity, smoking and environmental exposures, or sex on this heterogeneous disease. This comprehensive proteogenomic analysis of LUAD tumors and matched normal adjacent tissues from 406 patients across diverse geographic and demographic backgrounds explores the impact of understudied driver mutations, prognostic role of chromosomal instability, patterns of immune signaling, differential and sex-specific effects of endogenous mutagens and environmental carcinogens, and pathobiology …

This systematic review analyses three recent books that focus on the incarceration of the “BK-16”—sixteen activists who were detained in the aftermath of a 2018 gathering to celebrate the bicentenary of the Battle of Koregaon: (1) Suchitra Vijayan and Francesca Recchia’s How Long Can the Moon Be Caged (Pluto Press 2023); (2) Alpa Shah’s The Incarcerations: Bhima Koregaon and the Search for Democracy in India (Harper Collins India 2024); and (3) Sudha Bharadwaj’s From Phansi Yard: My Year with the Women of Yerawada (Juggernaut 2023). This dissertation examines the role literature plays in understanding black life post-reconstruction and post-civil rights movement. Specifically, I explore the continuation of injustices and mistreatment for black workers, the role black labor plays during the first and second post-reconstructions, and how literature can be used in framing this discussion. The similarities between these periods help us to better understand the cycle of racist societal expectations and the challenges black workers face integrating into society, discriminatory mandates required of black workers, the unfair job market, and forced labor. These periods interact cyclically in that the second post-reconstruction models the first post-reconstruction. …

This research article examines why the racialization of Brazilian jiu-jitsu has so often been invisible to non-Brazilians. It argues that Brazilian jiu-jitsu emerged in a highly racially stratified context and looks in particular at challenge matches that the Gracie family engaged in with fighters who practiced capoeira or judo.  It argues that through these competitions, not only was Brazilian jiu-jitsu located within Brazil’s racial hierarchy, but it was often positioned as ‘white,’ though usually in an unspoken manner. The ‘invisibility’ of Brazilian jiu-jitsu’s racialization is connected to Brazil’s hegemonic racial system where race is both of central social importance, yet …

This paper details a solution for legislatively restoring Chevron deference: amend the APA to direct lower federal courts to give deference to reasonable agency decisions but retain nondeferential judicial review by the U.S. Supreme Court. This solution restores most of the practical benefits of Chevron by giving agencies flexibility to implement congressional policy directives with the expertise they have acquired, by maintaining stability in administrative regulation, and by relieving lower federal courts of the burdens of nondeferential review. Relocating to a new country can be a major source of stress, often increasing individuals’ vulnerability to mental health challenges. The 2024 Indonesian presidential election marked a striking realignment as Prabowo Subianto—a former opposition leader—secured victory with the tacit endorsement of outgoing President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). This study investigates how the enduring popularity and policy achievements of Jokowi shaped voter preferences in favor of Prabowo, effectively positioning the election as a referendum on political continuity. Building on theories of economic voting and retrospective performance evaluation, the analysis explores the impact of district-level economic indicators, social media penetration, ideological orientation, social assistance distribution, and sociocultural characteristics on electoral outcomes.
