Jiu-jitsu came to America at the turn of the 20th century, just as the Russo-Japanese war was focusing  world interest on Japanese culture and martial training. An analysis of more than 2,400 articles and  illustrations about the art from American newspapers during jiu-jitsu’s first years in the United States demonstrates the ways media framed jiu-jitsu in militaristic, political, racial, and gendered terms for an enthusiastic and curious public.

This study evaluates the impact of the “Police Response to Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Operations” online training program of officers from the Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD). By measuring the effectiveness of the training through pretest and posttest assessments and considering variables such as educational background, length of service, and rank, this research underscores the training’s potential to enhance UAS response capabilities. Employing a self-selection sampling method, the study engaged 82 voluntary participants from the DBPD, revealing significant improvement across all groups in UAS knowledge and confidence levels. The Supreme Court has said the Establishment Clause should be interpreted in light of history and tradition. This Essay adds to the historical conversation by highlighting an overlooked dimension of religious establishment. Many recent decisions and commentary treat coercion as the central feature of establishment, often drawing on Michael McConnell’s identification of six common features of religious establishments. But McConnell’s categories were never meant to be exhaustive, and coercion alone cannot explain important parts of the historical record.

This self-study examines how caring practices are understood, enacted, and experienced within a synchronous online graduate teacher-education environment. Although online programs have expanded substantially, limited research addresses how relational approaches translate into mediated instructional spaces. Guided by Noddings’s ethics of care, this inquiry integrates reflective self-study with participant interviews to explore how technological structures, instructor practices, and real-time interactions shape students’ experiences of care. Findings reveal a multidimensional model consisting of (a) technological or structural care, characterized by course organization, predictability, and flexibility, and (b) humanistic care, expressed through relational presence, acknowledgment, responsiveness, and emergent dialogue in synchronous sessions. This article explores foundations, preconditions, aims, persons, groups, practices, methods, texts, and criteria of Muslim–Christian inter-spiritual dialogue. In-ter-spiritual dialogue thrives within the network of other dialogical forms: dialogue of life and collaboration, of theological and practical understanding. This article argues that the spiritual dimension of dialogical encounter may itself constitute a critical site of moral reflection, enabling participants to perceive injustice more clearly and to respond to it more responsibly. My positive answer to this question is illustrated in this paper by reflection on aspects of the Buddhist practice of emptiness, in specific connection with Christian under-standing of our lives as creatures. The Buddhist meditative practices I have in mind have several things in common. Adrenal insufficiency is an uncommon but important cause of nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms. We present a 33-year-old male with recurrent nausea, vomiting, and presumed gastroparesis who was ultimately found to have isolated idiopathic ACTH deficiency after discordant diagnostic findings prompted further evaluation. His symptoms resolved rapidly with glucocorticoid replacement. This case highlights the importance of considering adrenal insufficiency in patients with unexplained gastrointestinal symptoms and systemic features despite negative structural work up and underscores the role of diagnostic anchoring in delayed diagnosis.

Urothelial cell carcinoma (UCC) with squamous differentiation (SqD) is a subtype of bladder cancer with high metastatic potential. Metastasis of muscle-invasive UCC to the GI tract, with complete transition to squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), is rare, particularly in females. We present a female patient with high grade UCC with SqD treated with radical cystectomy and immunotherapy who presented with hematochezia 1 year after her cancer treatment. Imaging and colonoscopy revealed an annular, obstructing mass in the rectosigmoid region prompting sigmoid colectomy and partial proctectomy. Histopathology revealed invasive SCC. In 2012 the former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky was convicted of 45 counts of the sexual abuse of children.  However, none of his accusers accused him of anything until Victim 1, Aaron Fisher, entered treatment with a psychologist who diagnosed him at first sight as a victim of sexual abuse. The psychologist denied that he engaged in recovered-memory therapy. The record suggests otherwise. Despite extensive research on community agriculture, little attention has been paid to student-led farms or gardens (SFGs) in higher education contexts. SFGs represent a unique site for community agriculture due to their diverse stakeholders, academic affiliations, and the institutional policies they navigate. This study examines online promotional materials from 42 SFGs located on land-grant higher education campuses across the United States. Using critical discourse analysis, we (1) map these organizations’ practices and (2) identify competing discourses about community and agriculture within their promotional narratives. Fog computing extends cloud services to the network edge, enabling low-latency processing for time-sensitive applications. However, scheduling complexity significantly increases due to heterogeneous resources, dynamic workloads, and strict Quality-of-Service (QoS) constraints. Although numerous scheduling techniques have been proposed, existing studies often assess only a narrow subset of algorithms or rely on offline metaheuristics unsuitable for real-time environments. This paper presents a comprehensive comparative evaluation of twelve scheduling algorithms, including five classical, one heuristic, and six metaheuristic-inspired approaches, within a realistic 20-node multi-tier fog-cloud topology. Despite growing evidence on the impact of intra-tumoral heterogeneity (ITH) in breast cancer (BC), its biological drivers and clinically relevant mitigation strategies remain poorly characterized, particularly in low-resource settings where spatial profiling is rarely applied. To address this gap, we conducted a comprehensive, multiplatform spatial profiling study of BC in a Kenyan population. Using the NanoString GeoMx™ Digital Spatial Profiler, we quantified 44 protein markers across 707 spatially defined, PanCK-segmented Areas of Illumination (AOIs) from 31 tumors. This article brings Hans-Georg Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics into critical conversation with the pedagogical practice of philosophy in schools, focusing particularly on Philosophy for Children (P4C). While P4C offers a rich pedagogical model for developing reasonableness through the Community of Inquiry (CoI), its account of the conditions under which understanding occurs remains somewhat underdeveloped. Although some scholars have situated P4C in relation to hermeneutics, this engagement is limited. Addressing this gap, the key Gadamerian ideas of tradition, prejudice, and the fusion of horizons and dialogue are explored here to deepen and extend the theoretical considerations of inquiry in P4C.
