This study investigates the implementation of sustainable human resource management (HRM) practices and their influence on employee commitment within public agencies in Enugu City, Nigeria. Anchored primarily in Social Exchange Theory (SET), the research explores how specific HRM practices—recruitment, training, rewards, and career management—affect affective, continuance, and normative commitment among customer relations employees. Employing a concurrent mixed-methods design, the study gathered quantitative data via structured questionnaires from 300 employees across five public institutions and qualitative insights through semi-structured interviews with 15 employees. Kampung Tudong, located in Bansir Laut Subdistrict Pontianak City represents a local community that has successfully revitalized its cultural heritage through a traditional product called Tudong (a protective cover) made from mengkuang leaves that has existed since 1915. This product not only serves a functional purpose for the local community but also symbolizes cultural identity and has become a driver of the local economy across generations. The Onondaga Nation is petitioning the Organization of American States (OAS) for land rights to Onondaga Lake, a notoriously polluted body of water in Central New York State. The Onondaga Nation is one of six nations of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy (Iroquois), and Onondaga Lake is the sacred site where Gayanashagowa, the Great Law of Peace, was established. As Keepers of the Central Fire, the Onondaga Nation bears the responsibility of maintaining unity and peace within the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. This study investigates whether German-language fan fictions featuring lesbian and gay characters within the anime and manga domain can be regarded as genuinely queer. It situates these fan works within the specific traditions and practices of German fandom. Employing qualitative content analysis, the research examines two prominent fandoms, Naruto and Sailor Moon, focusing on the presence of heteronormative narrative patterns in fan fiction with queer protagonists. It also explores body expression and its role in shaping metaphorical images, as well as its ability to influence and persuade beyond spoken language. This quasi-experimental study investigated the effectiveness of an electronic collocation-based instructional program on Jordanian EFL tenth-grade students' word knowledge. Two sections of 25 students each, from a government school in Irbid, were randomly assigned as experimental and control groups. A word knowledge pre-test, which included a section measuring word meaning and another assessing word collocation, was administered to determine whether the two groups were homogeneous before implementing the program. Lexical collocations in Action Pack 10 were identified through a content analysis of selected reading passages, and these collocations were taught to the experimental group using Quizlet, a flashcard mobile application. …

A Travel Ban Is Nothing New: Moral Panic, Moral Entrepreneurs, And Immigration Policy, William F. Danaher, Debaleena Ghosh

The Journal of Public and Professional Sociology

The U.S. travel ban on Muslims was part of a historical pattern to curb immigration. In this paper, we take a historical-comparative approach to analyze two cases: The Chinese Exclusion Act and the Muslim Ban. We show how moral panics fueled by moral entrepreneurs led to immigration policies banning both groups and how historical events were important in the process. In the Chinese case, cultural stereotypes and competition with other immigrant groups led to the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act. In the Muslim case, 9/11 led moral entrepreneurs to associate all Muslims with terrorism, setting the stage for moral panic and …

Art-based interventions have gained increasing recognition as complementary strategies for substance use disorder (SUD) recovery and prevention, yet the field remains fragmented across clinical art therapy, community-based programs, and expressive digital practices. This article advances a unified neuroaesthetic framework that integrates sensory regulation, narrative integration, and interpersonal synchronization as the core mechanisms of healing. Drawing on recent U.S.-based empirical studies (post-2020), the paper synthesizes evidence from multiple modalities, including visual arts, music therapy, dance/movement practices, and digital storytelling, each demonstrating measurable effects on craving reduction, stress regulation, identity reconstruction, and social connection. Labor productivity is a major concern in the construction industry. Existing research on construction labor productivity (CLP) within specific trades has produced inconsistent findings due to differences in the factors analyzed. This lack of consistency makes it difficult to identify the most critical drivers of productivity losses across trades. To address this gap, this study adopts a cross-trade analytical approach to systematically identify and evaluate the inefficiencies impacting labor productivity in multiple construction trades. The review characterizes how structured gameplay supports emotional regulation through attentional control, predictable feedback schedules, and reward-mediated learning that elevates motivation and mood; links to dopaminergic signaling and reduced rumination suggest plausible pathways for affective stabilization. The internet plays a crucial role in modern life, but equal access to it is not guaranteed. This inequality is only starker since the recent overruling of the Chevron doctrine that afforded agencies deference in their interpretation of statutes and the second Trump administration’s hostility toward net neutrality––a policy that prevents internet service providers from charging more money for access to faster internet while slowing other users’ access. For those living on tribal lands, rescission of net neutrality policies has unique implications due to the federal government’s trust responsibility to American Indians.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates pesticide use in the United States. The EPA is charged by the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) with ensuring that a pesticide will not cause unreasonable adverse effects on the environment. Incident reports (documentation of exposure and injury from pesticide applications) can serve as a reality check on the pesticide registration decisions made by the EPA scientists and risk managers. The EPA collects incident reports on human, domestic animal, and ecological injury. The FIFRA section 6(a)(2) rule requires the pesticide registrant (generally, the company or other entity that wishes to market …
