Pixel-level segmentation of corrosion-induced damage in underground reinforced concrete (RC) structures is crucial for structural health monitoring but remains challenging due to complex backgrounds and the need for real-time models suitable for on-site inspections. To address these limitations, this paper introduces PH-UNet-Mask, a lightweight multi-task deep learning architecture designed for robust damage segmentation in challenging underground environments. The proposed model integrates Haar wavelet downsampling (HWD) within its encoder to preserve crucial edge details and employs a Parallel Channel-Spatial Attention (PCSA) module to adaptively refine feature representation by explicitly modelling spatial-channel dependencies. Bauxite refinery residue (BRR), a byproduct of alumina production, has significant potential for applications in the construction industry due to its favourable chemical composition and abundant availability. However, its use as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) is limited by its low pozzolanic reactivity. This study investigates the pozzolanic reactivity of BRR through both indirect and direct methods. BRR was used to replace Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) at 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30% by weight. This study applies a digital twin–based multi-scale and multi-physics simulation framework for durability assessment of reinforced concrete (RC) structures. The framework integrates thermo-hygro-chemical and structural analyses using DuCOM–COM3 to capture time-dependent deterioration processes such as fatigue and corrosion, and to assess their effects on structural performance under realistic environmental and loading conditions. Two case studies illustrate the methodology. The first addresses the fatigue behaviour of RC bridge slabs under moving wheel loads in both dry and wet environments. Concrete creep is defined as deformation over time under a sustained load. When a structure is subjected to additional actions such as corrosion, damage to its components can occur, leading to a deterioration in performance. The structure then develops a long-term deformation known as secondary creep, which is greater than the creep deformation that occurs under sustained loads alone. This study investigates the simulation of moisture transport in concrete under compressive damage using the 3D RBSM Conduit model. The model combines stress-strain responses from concrete compression experiments with detailed crack data, providing a realistic representation of crack development under varying load conditions. By implementing both unlubricated and lubricated compression tests, different failure modes were observed, influencing penetration patterns. Simulations show that the distribution of cracks significantly accelerates moisture penetration within the concrete. Notably, uniformly distributed cracks, typical of lubricated tests, facilitate deeper and faster moisture transport compared to more localized cracks observed in unlubricated tests. The alkali-silica reaction (ASR) significantly compromises the structural integrity of reinforced concrete members, underscoring the need for reliable computational models to assess ASR-affected infrastructure, especially in regions like Japan, where this issue is prevalent. Prestressed concrete (PC) girders develop anisotropic cracking under ASR-induced expansion, resulting in direction-dependent mechanical properties that can influence their global structural performance. This study developed a mesoscale mechanical model capable of reproducing the volumetric deformation behaviour of cementitious materials in deep-sea environments. In the analysis, the rigid-body spring model (RBSM), a mesoscale mechanical model, was integrated with a truss network model (TNM) capable of evaluating mass transport, forming the RBSM-TNM framework. The increasing adoption of additive manufacturing in construction necessitates robust simulation frameworks capable of capturing the time-dependent mechanical behaviour of fresh concrete. This study examines the influence of printing speed and nozzle size on the buildability of infilled concrete walls using finite element (FE) simulations. A nonlinear fracture-plastic constitutive model was employed to simulate the time-dependent mechanical behaviour of fresh concrete, with the modelling framework first validated against previously published experimental data to ensure reliability. This paper reports preliminary results on the durability performance of a 3D-printed ultra-high strength concrete (3DP-UHSC). A nitrite-based compound was added at varying dosages (0%, 2%, and 4% by mass of binder) to the developed 3DP-UHSC as a corrosion inhibitor. The effects of the corrosion inhibitor on the workability of fresh mixes and the mechanical properties (compressive and flexural strengths in various directions) of the 3DP-UHSC mixes were studied. Furthermore, the durability performance of the 3DP-UHSC was assessed by conducting porosity, water absorption, and chloride permeability measurements. Encroachment on common land represents a significant governance challenge in India. Weak institutions, irregular enforcement, and power imbalances often leave marginalised communities more vulnerable to eviction than others. This article examines the design and effectiveness of Public Land Protection Cells (PLPCs)—a judicially mandated grievance redressal mechanism in Rajasthan—in addressing common land encroachment disputes. Drawing on an analysis of cases before the Rajasthan High Court, field observations, and stakeholder interviews, it evaluates how PLPCs address enforcement gaps and promote accountability. State formation through secession often requires two critical steps: building mass support for independence, and engaging in violent conflict against a state resisting territorial loss. Combining satellite data with archival sources, we statistically document how exposure to the 1970 Bhola cyclone in East Pakistan which killed 350,000 people led to a rise in separatist sentiments expressed in voting booths, and later induced citizens to take up arms against the government and engage in guerrilla warfare. We identify the cyclone as a focal point that helped galvanize dispersed separatist sentiments into an organized political movement and war, in part by revealing …
