The Caracol Road Project is a new BZ$148,100,000 (US$74,050,000) road infrastructure development in the Cayo District of Belize and financed largely by foreign sovereign wealth funds. The areas adjacent to the road, broken into two phases include: communities, forest reserves, national parks, recreational areas, private lands and estates, and archaeological sites. This paper seeks to ask the questions: (i) For whom is the CRP being developed? (ii) For what is the CRP being developed? In this nonpayment proceeding, the tenant moved to amend her answer and dismiss the case, arguing the landlord failed to comply with LLCL § 206 by not publishing its incorporation details when the action commenced. The landlord submitted proof of belated publication. The court granted the tenant's motion to amend the answer but denied the motion to dismiss. It held that the landlord's failure to comply with LLCL § 206 at the time of commencement was not a jurisdictional defect and could be cured nunc pro tunc by subsequent publication, thereby allowing the landlord to maintain the action.

Metastatic uveal melanomas are highly resistant to all existing treatments. To identify actionable vulnerabilities, we conducted a CRISPR-Cas9 knockout screen using a library composed of chromatin regulators. We revealed that the lysine methyltransferase, SETDB1, plays a critical role in metastatic uveal melanoma cell proliferation and survival. Functionally, SETDB1 deficiency induces a DNA damage response, senescence-like state and growth arrest. Knockdown of SETDB1 is associated with a decreased expression of genes related to replication and cell cycle. Moreover, deficiency in CDC6, an essential regulator of DNA replication, phenocopies SETDB1 inhibition. Using a pre-clinical model, we further demonstrated that anti-SETDB1 therapy impairs …

Long-read sequencing has transformed metagenomics and improved the quality of metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs). However, current binning methods struggle with identifying unknown species and managing imbalanced species distributions. Here, we present LorBin, an unsupervised binner specially designed to reconstruct MAGs in natural microbiomes. LorBin deploys a two-stage multiscale adaptive DBSCAN and BIRCH clustering with evaluation decision models using single-copy genes to maximize MAG recovery. LorBin outperforms six competing binners in both simulated and real microbiomes, including oral, gut, and marine samples. LorBin generated 15-189% more high-quality MAGs with high serendipity and identified 2.4-17 times more novel taxa than state-of-the-art binning methods. …

Despite decades of investment in agricultural research and rice development, the Philippines continues to face stagnation in domestic rice production. This persistent trend, occurring despite a sizable arable land base and large rural workforce, has contributed to the country’s growing reliance on rice imports to meet national food needs. In response, the government has implemented a tariff-based import system designed to fund domestic productivity improvements. While previous studies have explored the technical and environmental constraints affecting rice production, such as irrigation shortfalls, land degradation, and climate variability, few have examined recent national trends using regionally disaggregated data alongside qualitative insights. …

Accurate assessment of perfusion in vital organs like the pancreas is crucial for monitoring various pathologies, particularly tumors and their growth. While tumor growth inhibition usually results in decreased vascularization, current techniques for non-invasive and cost-effective perfusion assessment lack sufficient vessel separability for pancreatic applications, hindering optimal treatment selection and monitoring. Ultrasound (US) imaging offers advantages like low cost, rapid acquisition, non-invasiveness, and non-ionizing radiation. However, speckle, patient-related and acquisition-related motion artifacts, and limitations in distinguishing contrast-enhanced blood vessels, particularly in single frames, pose significant challenges. This study quantifies the effects of freeze–thaw (FT) cycling and dynamic water scouring, and establishes links between mesoscale pore evolution and macroscale strength degradation in cement-stabilized macadam (CSM) bases. The objective is to provide quantitative indicators for durability design and non-destructive evaluation of CSM bases. First, laboratory tests were conducted to simulate alpine service conditions: CSM cylindrical specimens (Ø150 × 150 mm) with 4.5% cement content, cured for 28 days, were exposed to 0, 5, or 20 FT cycles (−18 °C for 16 h ↔ +25 °C for 8 h), followed by dynamic water scouring (0.5 MPa, 10 Hz) for …

The study focuses on the experiences of these communities during World War II, when they were displaced and incarcerated following the attack on Pearl Harbor. In the face of such traumatic events, the challenge arises in how individuals convey memories when words alone may not suffice. The main objective of this research was to determine, based on autobiographical narratives, the links between the memory of wartime experiences of Japanese Americans and Japanese Canadians and their ethnic identity. Qualitative research with entrepreneurs employing migrant workers poses significant challenges, particularly in recruiting respondents willing to discuss sensitive topics. This study explores an innovative method to overcome these barriers by engaging entrepreneurs through community-centered social initiatives. Specifically, we examine the "Opole Friendly Company for Migrants" project, a socially innovative competition conducted in the Opolskie Voivodeship from 2020 to 2024. The competition had two main goals. Firstly, it was aimed to foster participation in qualitative research by integrating respondents into a broader, socially meaningful context. This experience report documents the evolving practices of scholarly communication in the age of artificial intelligence while publishing an open-access peer-reviewed book. Drawing on experiences from 2023–2025, it explores open-access, print-on-demand publishing, collaborative authorship, and ethical integration of AI tools in academic workflows. Anchored by our work with the WAC Clearinghouse, we highlight how infrastructure, metadata, and peer review shape practices of scholarly production and assessment. We frame literacy not as a fixed competency but as an evolving set of practices shaped by technologies and platforms. The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of the tourism sector on the economy of Central Java province. The analysis method is a random effect model (REM), which is estimated using data from 35 regencies/cities in Central Java during some periods between 2001 and 2023. The result shows that the number of tourists, the number of tourism objects, the number of lodgings, the number of restaurants, and the number of workers on the tourist object, each have a positive and significant effect on the real GRDP.
