Crime-Free Rental Housing Properties (CFRHPs) have proven to be an ineffective and inequitable approach to public safety. Often, tenants in these properties are evicted—at times, extrajudicially—as a result of conduct that does not rise to violations of their lease provisions, much less criminal behavior. By placing extraordinary power in the hands of local law enforcement to carry out these ordinances, CFRHPs predictably pose significant harm to Black and Latinx communities, survivors of domestic violence, disabled tenants, and low-income tenants generally. Recently, the Washington State Supreme Court grappled with the tensions arising between CFRHPs and the enforcement of Washington landlord-tenant law. …

Water quality security is a complex management issue that is constantly challenged by factors of seasonal variability in climate change, urban population growth, and agricultural intensification. These factors warrant the need for innovative technological adaptations to management practices that integrate remote monitoring, predictive modeling, and sustainable resource utilization. This study establishes a framework for sustainable water quality practices through the integration of remote sensing technology for urban wastewater treatment and agricultural irrigation systems. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most prevalent malignancies globally and is the leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide. Advanced and metastatic CRC is associated with poor prognosis due to high rates of metastases and resistance to standard therapies. With the advent of next-generation sequencing, there has been increased interest in molecularly targeted treatments. One such molecular target is the PIK3CA gene, a key component of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) pathway, which has been linked to promoting tumor survival and proliferation in cancer cell populations. This short contribution presents two recently discovered inscriptions from Central Java that are among the oldest documents in the Old Javanese language, namely a dated stone from Kesongo (685 Śaka/743 CE) and the Disunuh inscription (709 Śaka/787 CE). These two artefacts constitute new evidence that Old Javanese had become a written language in this part of Java already in the eighth century CE. This article provides a revised critical edition and annotated translation of the Kārakasaṁgraha, a Sanskrit grammatical treatise as it has been preserved in Balinese manuscripts. The work is a synthesis of Indian grammatical traditions, notably including aspects of both Pāṇinian and Kātantra systems, which was probably recomposed in the premodern Indonesian archipelago. While its Sanskrit matrix is witness to local adaptation, the interspersed Old Javanese commentaries also show a striking reframing of grammatical discourse in ritual and cosmological idioms. This speculative design study aims to construct the idea of nothingness as an active and generative element of architecture. Nothingness, understood as voids, empty, and negative spaces, can be reinterpreted as a productive condition that opens up new spatial possibilities. Such a productive condition demonstrates the interdependence between nothingness and the spatial existence of something. The project explores how nothingness constructs the perceptibility of particular spatial terrain through void as architectural design operations. In sweetpotato, global production exceeds 90 million tons annually, yet yields are threatened by numerous pathogens, including the potyvirus sweet potato feathery mottle virus (SPFMV). Virus infections can reduce yields by 25–40%, but surveillance is hampered by asymptomatic infections and the labor-intensive nature of detection. Hyperspectral imaging (HSI), combined with machine learning (ML), offers a promising pathway to scalable, non-destructive detection; however, studies focused on virus infection in sweetpotato remain limited.

In Spence v. American Airlines, Inc., the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas found that American Airlines breached its fiduciary duties due to BlackRock’s ESG investing practices. Contrary to some reports suggesting that the ruling prohibits ESG investing under ERISA, a closer look at the ruling shows that the court only targeted American Airlines’ failure to manage conflicts of interest appropriately, rather than the legality of ESG investing itself. In light of the intensifying ESG backlash in the United States, this Article cautions against further restrictive measures on ESG investing. Such measures would exacerbate the widening …

Law and political economy (LPE) scholars have revived a longstanding debate over the relationship among law, capitalism, and postcapitalist possibility. Is law a creature of capitalism, destined to reproduce its dynamics of exploitation and dominance? Or are there moments of indeterminacy in law that function specifically as openings to a postcapitalist elsewhere?

This paper proposes a novel framework for the global optimization of a continuous function in a bounded rectangular domain. Specifically, we show that: (1) global optimization is equivalent to optimal strategy formation in a two-armed decision problem with known distributions, based on the Strategic Law of Large Numbers we establish; and (2) a sign-based strategy based on the solution of a parabolic PDE is asymptotically optimal. This study examines the trends, challenges, and opportunities in the use of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) within mathematics education. Employing a descriptive bibliometric approach, this research analyzed 1.800 publications indexed in Dimensions.ai from 2020 to 2025 using VOSviewer software to visualize and interpret keyword co-occurrence, citation patterns, and research networks. The results indicate a substantial growth in MOOC related mathematics studies from 2020 to 2022, followed by stabilization during 2023 2025, signaling the transition of MOOCs from emergency digital instruction toward a more structured and sustainable learning ecosystem. Women With Persistent Atrial Fibrillation Need More Than Pulmonary Vein Isolation: Personalised Extra-Pulmonary Vein Ablation Strategy Vs. Pulmonary Vein Isolation Alone In The Tailored-Af Trial, Isabel Deisenhofer, Daniel H Cooper, Et Al.

AIMS: There is still conflicting evidence if women with persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) profit from a pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) plus strategy. We evaluated the efficacy of a spatio-temporal dispersion-targeted ablation strategy in women from the TAILORED-AF trial.

METHODS AND RESULTS: In TAILORED-AF, 370 patients were randomised to either a personalised, artificial intelligence (AI)-guided tailored ablation or to PVI-only. AF substrate mapping data and 12-month ablation outcomes were compared between women and men. Overall, 21% patients were female (70.4 ± 6.9 vs. 64.5 ± 8.5 years for men, P < 0.001). While spatio-temporal dispersion extent was similar between groups, left atrial low-voltage surface area (< 0.2 mV) was significantly larger in women (P < 0.01). In women, the single-procedure freedom from AF (76% vs. 50%, log-rank P < 0.001) and any atrial arrhythmia (56% vs. 38%, log-rank P < 0.05) were significantly superior to PVI alone with a tailored procedure. In the PVI-only group, the single-procedure freedom from AF (50% vs. 70%, log-rank P < 0.001) and any atrial arrhythmia (38% vs. 61%, log-rank P < 0.001) were significantly lower in women. After a tailored ablation, no significant differences were observed between women and men regarding freedom from AF (76% vs. 91%, log-rank P = 0.07) or any atrial arrhythmia (56% vs. 62%, log-rank P = 0.69) free survival.

Debt oppression began before the United States became a country. Settlers enslaved Africans and Indigenous people, treating them as property that they could buy and sell for their economic and personal benefit. When enslavement became illegal, new economic systems and laws that included sharecropping, Black Codes, and Jim Crow kept Black people in servitude. Laws that prohibited enslaved people from owning property or selling goods to white people evolved into restrictions on Black people’s occupations and market participation, both formal and informal. When Black entrepreneurs overcame these obstacles and built wealth within Black business enclaves, white people enforced their racist …

Juvenile courts are based on the premise that children are different from adults and should therefore be treated differently. Children may be treated more informally by courts, punished for different purposes, and brought before the court for different behaviors. Since In re Gault, the Supreme Court has been clear that there are limits to how different juvenile courts can be. Extensive research indicates fluoridation, when regulated at the recommended concentration, is both safe and highly effective in preventing dental caries. Reducing dental health disparities among economic classes is a pressing public health issue. The Americans with Disabilities Act has required equal access to jury service for decades; however, efforts to accommodate jurors with disabilities have been slow to develop beyond some minor accommodations for physical disabilities. While neurodivergent people frequently struggle to navigate a world catered toward neurotypical people, jury service remains inaccessible for many neurodivergent people who need accommodations to attend trial and engage in jury deliberations. If courts and advocates do not consider how to develop accommodations to secure the service of neurodivergent jurors, they will miss out on the unique skillsets that neurodivergent people can bring to resolving disputes.

This monograph presents a musical analysis of three choral works by Puerto Rican composer Ángel “Cucco” Peña: Negra Majestad, Bomba E, and Aleluya Criollo. Although Peña is widely recognized for his contributions to popular music and production, these pieces highlight a lesser-known side of his creative output in the choral realm. Each work draws from traditional Puerto Rican genres—bomba, plena, and aguinaldo—while incorporating modern compositional techniques that reflect Peña’s eclectic style and his engagement with both popular and classical traditions.

Embryonic Transcription Factors (TFs) are often reactivated in cancer, driving developmental gene programs that support phenotypic plasticity. Metabolic adaptation fuels this plasticity by supplying energy and molecular building blocks for growth. RUNX2, the master regulator of bone morphogenesis, is ectopically expressed in epithelial cancer, promoting metastasis through trans-differentiation processes like Epithelial-to-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) and osteomimicry. By combining omics data with functional validation, we demonstrated that RUNX2 drives cancer cell metabolic rewiring by repressing mitochondrial respiration while promoting anabolic processes.
