Evidence is emerging that perturbed postnatal gut microbiota development is causally related to childhood undernutrition. Clinical trials in undernourished Bangladeshi children found that a polysaccharide-rich, microbiota-directed complementary food (MDCF-2) designed to repair this perturbation produced superior ponderal and linear growth compared to a standard ready-to-use supplementary food. Subsequent analyses disclosed several candidate bioactive polysaccharides in the MDCF and their bacterial targets, notably strains of

From Cafes To Competitiveness: The Influence Of Amenities On Office Values And Suburban Economic Development In Portland, Or, Jihye Kang Dec 2025

From Cafes To Competitiveness: The Influence Of Amenities On Office Values And Suburban Economic Development In Portland, Or, Jihye Kang

Dissertations and Theses

This dissertation examines the spatial and economic implications of urban amenities in the formation of suburban office markets in the post-pandemic period. The research applies principles from agglomeration theory, spatial econometrics, and urban planning to analyze the statistical relationships between amenity distribution, rent formation, and location behavior across central and non-central submarkets.

The research consists of three integrated papers focused on the Portland–Vancouver–Hillsboro, OR–WA Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). The first paper employs spatial econometric modeling, specifically a Spatial Autoregressive Model with Autoregressive Disturbances (SARAR), to examine the relationship between proximity to cafés and office rent levels in Portland’s central business …

All Decisions

A landlord initiated a licensee holdover proceeding. The tenant, son of the former rent-controlled tenant, moved for summary judgment on his succession defense, claiming he primarily resided with his deceased father. The court granted the tenant's motion, finding sufficient evidence of co-residency for the statutory period, even considering the father's time in a nursing home before death. The landlord failed to raise material issues of fact, and the petition was dismissed, establishing the tenant's right to succeed to the rent-controlled tenancy.

In Silico Approach Of Flavonol In Hibiscus Sabdariffa As Proteasome Inhibitors Targeting The Ubiquitin-Proteasome Pathway, Nur Amalia Choironi, Syakhsiyatunnisa Galuh Prameswari, Hanif Nasiatul Baroroh Dec 2025

In Silico Approach Of Flavonol In Hibiscus Sabdariffa As Proteasome Inhibitors Targeting The Ubiquitin-Proteasome Pathway, Nur Amalia Choironi, Syakhsiyatunnisa Galuh Prameswari, Hanif Nasiatul Baroroh

Chimica et Natura Acta

Multiple myeloma is a blood cancer characterized by the abnormal proliferation of B cells that accumulate in the bone marrow. The proliferation of these cells depends on the role of the proteasome through the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway to degrade proteins that regulate the cell cycle, apoptosis, and stress response. The proteasome is the main target of proteasome inhibitors for the treatment of multiple myeloma. Flavonoid compounds in Hibiscus sabdariffa flowers, such as isoquercitrin, quercitrin, quercetagetin, isorhamnetin, and astragalin, have the potential to act as proteasome inhibitors. The insilico study aims to determine the potential of these compounds as proteasome inhibitors based …

Sacred Sounds And Profane Places, Denaesia Robinson, Ehsan Sheikholharam Ma Dec 2025

Sacred Sounds And Profane Places, Denaesia Robinson, Ehsan Sheikholharam Ma

Symposium of Student Scholars

Life is comprised of many moments big and small and each of these moments help to shape people into who they are and who they will become. These moments constitute self or Home for individuals. The idea of homelessness is the plight many humans face during their lifetime. This feeling of being lost leads many on a journey of discovery where people seek themselves or a feeling of belonging (Home). Those who suffer from the metaphysical sense of homelessness go on journeys looking for the sacred and sometimes they find it in the profane.

In history we learn about how …

Degeneracies In A Weighted Sum Of Two Squares, Ishan V. Ramesh Dec 2025

Degeneracies In A Weighted Sum Of Two Squares, Ishan V. Ramesh

Rose-Hulman Undergraduate Mathematics Journal

This work is an attempt to classify and quantify instances when a weighted sum of two squares of positive integers, 3n2 1 +n2 2, can be realized in more than one way. Our project was inspired by a particular study of two-dimensional quantum billiards [S. G. Jackson, H. Perrin, G. E. Astrakharchik, and M. Olshanii, SciPost Phys. Core 7, 062 (2024)] where the weighted sums of interest represents an energy level with the two integers being the billiard’s quantum numbers; there, the 3-fold degeneracies seem to dominate the energy spectrum. Interestingly, contrary to the conventional paradigm, these degeneracies are not …

Talkin' 'Bout My Genderation: The Effect Of Gender Bias On Arbitral Representation, Amy E. Allen Dec 2025

Talkin' 'Bout My Genderation: The Effect Of Gender Bias On Arbitral Representation, Amy E. Allen

Washington Journal of Social & Environmental Justice

Gender bias is rampant in all industries, and the world of arbitration is no exception. For decades, members of the field of arbitration have debated the suitability of women as arbitrators. This led to a broader discussion regarding different styles of arbitration, how or if these styles are related to the gender of the arbitrator, and whether one arbitration style is more effective than others. This paper begins with a brief assessment of the history of arbitration, as well as a more focused overview of the history of women in arbitration. Next, the paper questions the reasons for gender disparity …

Rights Of Nature, Wrongs For The Commons: Risks Of Assigning Legal Personhood To The Rivers Of Washington State, Srinandan Ramachandran Dec 2025

Rights Of Nature, Wrongs For The Commons: Risks Of Assigning Legal Personhood To The Rivers Of Washington State, Srinandan Ramachandran

Washington Journal of Social & Environmental Justice

The Rights of Nature (“RoN”) movement, which seeks to grant legal personhood to natural entities, has recently gained traction in Washington State and globally. While intended to enhance environmental protection and Indigenous sovereignty, RoN burdens commons governance by expanding the right to exclude. This paper advances a critique of proposals to grant legal personhood to rivers in Washington State, highlighting conflicts with standing, liability, and the jurisprudential tenets of legal personhood. RoN undermines equitable usufructuary access to the commons, or lands and waters without exclusionary rights, thereby impeding marginalized peoples’ ability to utilize shared resources. Instead of assigning legal personhood …

De Facto Death Sentences For Misdemeanor Offenses: A Right To Medication For Opioid Use Disorder Induction Under The Washington Law Against Discrimination, Alena R. Sharp Dec 2025

De Facto Death Sentences For Misdemeanor Offenses: A Right To Medication For Opioid Use Disorder Induction Under The Washington Law Against Discrimination, Alena R. Sharp

Washington Journal of Social & Environmental Justice

The opioid crisis remains one of the deadliest public health emergencies in the United States, disproportionately impacting marginalized communities, including people in the criminal legal system. Medication for opioid use disorder is the recognized standard of care for treating opioid use disorder. Despite the fact that medications have also been shown to reduce overdose deaths and relapse rates, many prisons and jails continue to impose blanket prohibitions on medications for opioid use disorder for nonpregnant individuals, placing them at an elevated risk for acute withdrawal, suicide, and fatal overdose.

This comment examines the systemic barriers to access medication for opioid …
