Borderlands, Nepantla And Interdependence: Some Notes About Onto-Epistemology In Gloria Anzaldúa’S Work, Martha Palacio Avendaño Dec 2025

Borderlands, Nepantla And Interdependence: Some Notes About Onto-Epistemology In Gloria Anzaldúa’S Work, Martha Palacio Avendaño

Emancipations: A Journal of Critical Social Analysis

The purpose of this piece is to introduce some of the key concepts in Gloria Anzaldúa’s work. A Chicana feminist philosopher, Anzaldúa was born in a little town in Texas in 1942 and passed away in 2004. I am going beyond her idea of borderlands to point out that her idea of Nepantla offers multiple options for approaching our social reality, such as tracing diagnoses and evaluating the social conditions for the constitution of an emancipatory political subjectivity. Nepantla constitutes an analytical way for understanding the plurality of gender experience as well as a path of knowledge in the process …

The Present Interregnum: The Ultra-Right Revolution, María Pía Lara Dec 2025

The Present Interregnum: The Ultra-Right Revolution, María Pía Lara

Emancipations: A Journal of Critical Social Analysis

This paper deals with recent political consequences of presentism as conceptualized by the historian Francois Hartog. It clarifies how our experiences of time and history have enlarged the present and the past and have almost disappeared the future (except for catastrophic views). The consequences of these changes in the experiences reflect profound changes in expectations about the future, and how this regime of historicity allows people to become disoriented. They were moved into the margins of precarity. As a result, many of their views on politics find resonance redesigned by the distorted narratives of ultra-right leaders who blame those who …

Hughes-Stovin Syndrome: A Case Report Of A 24-Year-Old Male With Pulmonary Aneurysms And Deep Vein Thrombosis, Clara Liu, Zhiyin Li, Supriya Bhupathy, Bradley Todd Andersen, Andrew Hwang

HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine

Background

Hughes-Stovin Syndrome (HSS) is a rare vasculitis characterized by pulmonary artery aneurysms (PAAs) and peripheral venous thrombosis. Anticoagulation, the standard treatment for venous thrombosis, is often contraindicated in HSS due to the risk of fatal pulmonary hemorrhage, especially since mortality rates of patients with a history of hemoptysis are reported at 50%-100% from PAA ruptures, yet treatment guidelines are limited due to the condition’s rarity with fewer than 90 reported cases globally. This report highlights the complex management decisions required.

Case Presentation

A 24-year-old man with a 3-month history of PAAs, left lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and …

Occupational Resilience (Part 1): Origins And Significance To Health And Well-Being, Bernard A. Muriithi, Jyothi Gupta Dec 2025

Occupational Resilience (Part 1): Origins And Significance To Health And Well-Being, Bernard A. Muriithi, Jyothi Gupta

Occupational Therapy Faculty Scholarship

Occupational resilience (OR) is a novel concept emerging in occupational therapy and occupational science, with significant implications for the field. However, its definition is still evolving and needs clarity and consensus. In this article, we offer a definition inspired by the real-life experiences of refugee immigrants who have been resettled in the United States of America (USA). We define OR as the ability to persist in an occupation, where the duration and intensity of engagement are the essential contributors. Therefore, we propose that three elements, occupation, intensity, and duration, constitute the nature of OR and shape how occupation impacts health, …

Alternative Vat Policies For Sustainable Menstrual Products In Indonesia, Saraswati Nirmala Suci, Hanik Susilawati Muamarah

Jurnal Akuntansi dan Keuangan Indonesia

Background: Sustainable menstrual products currently face the same VAT rate as conventional products, making them less affordable and slowing their adoption. This price gap drives consumers toward cheaper disposable alternatives, increasing non-recyclable waste and environmental risks. Addressing this imbalance is essential to advancing sustainability and menstrual equity. Method: This study conducted in-depth interviews with officials from the Directorate General of Taxes, the Fiscal Policy Agency, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, academicians, and a sustainable product manufacturer. Data were analyzed using the Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) framework to evaluate four VAT policy alternatives: normal VAT, VAT exemption, non-collected VAT, and …

It’S Giving Nonfactive Small Clause Selection, David Garsten Dec 2025

It’S Giving Nonfactive Small Clause Selection, David Garsten

Yale Working Papers in Grammatical Diversity

In this paper I examine the syntax and semantics of English nonfactive verbs, bare nominals, and small clauses through the colloquial constructions it’s giving and screams+NP. I aim to explain the formality of nonfactives with DP small clauses in American English, as well as the informality of bare nominals in adjectival positions. First I propose a semantics for two nonfactive heads: vATT and vEVI. I demonstrate that all variation in the selection of English small clause type can be reduced to selection by category, and that these nonfactive heads have lost the ability to c-select for …

Urban Form Beyond Density: Shape Compactness Matters, Galuh Anisa Putri, Ahmad Gamal Dec 2025

Urban Form Beyond Density: Shape Compactness Matters, Galuh Anisa Putri, Ahmad Gamal

CSID Journal of Infrastructure Development

Urban compactness has traditionally been measured through density, with population per area used as a core indicator of urban form. However, this method creates a limited view of what compactness means. Research shows that a compact city is not always a high-density city, and that increasing density does not automatically result in compact development. Compactness also involves the shape and structure of urban footprints, which influence how land is used and how a city functions. This paper presents a conceptual distinction between density and shape compactness, arguing that both are necessary to understand urban form. A qualitative literature review was …
