This Article is the first work of legal scholarship to examine Turkish population transfers in northern Syria, which constitute perhaps the most aggressive movement of settler populations into occupied territory in current times. In particular, it examines the lawfulness of such movements under Article 49(6) of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits an occupying power from “deport[ing] or transfer[ring] parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.”  In a series of major military operations beginning in 2018, Turkey has seized nearly 3,000 square miles of territory in two sectors in northern Syria and established control. The rapid advancement of deepfake technology has fundamentally altered the trustworthiness of audio and visual media. Deepfakes, synthetic media generated through artificial intelligence, can skew political discourse, manipulate elections, and disproportionately harm women through nonconsensual deepfake pornography. As these issues intensify, the law must provide adequate protections without stifling innovation and infringing on fundamental rights. This requires a careful balancing act.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease characterized by recurring cycles of flare and remission that significantly affect patients’ quality of life. Standard allopathic treatment for UC centers on mesalamine, a 5-aminosalicylic acid drug that acts locally on the colon to reduce inflammation, but does not cure the disease entirely. Acupuncture, rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, has been proposed as an adjunct therapy for inflammatory conditions, yet its biomedical efficacy remains uncertain due to methodological limitations and insufficient controls of prior studies.

This thesis investigates the soteriological implications of Nāgārjuna’s doctrine of emptiness (śūnyatā) as presented in the Mūlamadhyamakakārikā (MMK), or Root Verses of the Middle Way. While Nāgārjuna’s radical denial of intrinsic existence (svabhāva) is widely recognized as a masterful critique of metaphysics, modern scholarship remains divided on whether this "right view" can sufficiently ground the Buddhist Path to Liberation. This project centers on a comparative analysis of two prominent modern interpretations: Jay Garfield’s semantic anti-dualism and Giuseppe Ferraro’s anti-metaphysical realism.

Alzheimer's disease neuropathological changes (ADNC)—operationalized with semi-quantitative parameters—represent the consensus-based gold standard for diagnostic evaluation of disease severity. Although useful, ADNC diagnostic frameworks have limitations, particularly in advanced disease stages where pathological severity varies widely within a given diagnostic category. Further, some individuals lacking cognitive impairment are inappropriately categorized as having severe ADNC. In this study, quantitative pathology metrics and alternative tissue sampling schemes were integrated with data about premortem cognitive status, in order to derive clinically informed neuropathologic diagnostic thresholds. Developmental effects of fetal alcohol exposure are extensively documented as a consequence of maternal gestational alcohol consumption. However, similar consequences of paternal alcohol consumption remain understudied. This proposed pilot study will examine preconception paternal alcohol consumption within its capacity to induce heritable epigenetic modifications in sperm, such that offspring are susceptible to adverse in utero neurodevelopment and neonatal neurobehavioral outcomes. Specifically, it will examine DNA methylation patterns along the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) exon IV promoter in paternal spermatozoa. The fact that the United States has three banking regulators poses challenges to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in carrying out its statutory mandates. The agency relies on other regulators with priorities different from its own to limit the risks that banks take, to require holding companies to take losses before the FDIC in case banks fail, and to enforce the FDIC’s regulations. Moreover, the FDIC cannot enact its preferred policies if it wishes to avoid a regulatory race to the bottom with other regulators.

Proportionality is the fundamental principle of sentencing in Canada: a sentence must be proportionate to the gravity of the offence and the blameworthiness of the offender. In order for a sentence to be proportionate, the Supreme Court has stated that it must be individualized to the particular event and also that it must maintain parity with similar offences committed in similar circumstances. Parity tends to compare the relative severity of offences in the abstract, lending itself to the gravity analysis. This article sweeps away glossy abstractions obscuring the indenturing of women in sexual servitude in Japan. These abstractions were generated by anthropologists writing in English in the first two decades of the 21^st century who inverted the relationship between perpetrator and victim to suggest that female customers exploited hosts. This mixed-methods study evaluated the relationship between rating of perceived exertion (RPE) and heart rate (HR) among high school weight-training students during circuit training sessions. The purpose of this study was to determine whether RPE could serve as a practical method for gauging moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) among high school weight-training students while allowing students to assess and enhance their health-related components of fitness. Participants were high school students enrolled in weight-training classes who completed upper- and lower-body circuit training sessions over a 4-week period, or a total of 16 school days. States are enacting a new wave of land laws restricting noncitizens’ ownership of real property, prompting immediate constitutional challenges grounded in equal protection and federal preemption. Most commentators assume these laws are unlikely to survive modern scrutiny. This Article argues that these land laws rest on a constitutional logic that remains both doctrinally intact and normatively compelling: the treatment of real property as an incident of state sovereignty rather than an ordinary site of economic regulation.

When fifteen-year-old Louie posted a TikTok video criticizing his school’s disciplinary policies from his bedroom, he faced a month-long suspension despite having no notice of which policies he had violated. Across the country, Kaitlin shared a Snapchat criticizing her chemistry teacher with friends at a local coffee shop and faced expulsion with minimal opportunity to explain the context. In both cases, students received limited procedural protections before suffering severe academic consequences.

High-throughput transcriptomic and proteomic technologies have enabled opportunities for studying biological processes and disease mechanisms. However, extracting meaningful biological information from these high-dimensional datasets remains challenging due to limited sample sizes, biological heterogeneity, measurement noise, and the absence of biological annotations. In particular, many molecular datasets lack temporal information required for circadian analysis, making the study of circadian rhythms difficult. Social work field education, commonly enacted as the practicum, is widely regarded as the profession’s signature pedagogy, yet its material conditions—particularly the prevalence of unpaid or minimally compensated placements—are rarely problematized. This dissertation examined the financial, academic, and well-being consequences of practicum participation among social work students and the mechanisms through which these consequences arise. The Supreme Court’s recent embrace of “historical practices and understandings” in interpreting the Establishment Clause has emboldened states to challenge forty-five years of precedent prohibiting Ten Commandments displays in public schools. Yet, these states advance a version of history that mistakenly ignores European religious persecution that shaped how the Founders understood the establishment of religion. The soil freezing characteristic curve (SFCC), which relates unfrozen water content to temperature, is a fundamental constitutive relationship in frost heave simulations. However, the influence of soil suction, another critical state variable, is often neglected. This study highlights how the SFCC is significantly affected by suction conditions, with unfrozen water content varying markedly between saturated (suction = 0) and completely dried (suction = ∞) conditions at the same subfreezing temperature. Thus, many teens use the internet to disclose abuse experiences and seek information or advice from their online peers. Little empirical research has adopted a strength-based approach to examine strategies that help offset challenges (e.g., discrimination, internalized stigma) faced by people in polyamorous relationships. The current qualitative study assessed the self-perceived strengths of 63 US-based, adult participants who reported present or former engagement in at least one polyamorous relationship. Participants' responded to the open-ended question, “What particular characteristics do you have that help you navigate the challenges of polyamory?” A thematic analysis identified strengths across eight broad themes: personality traits, a willingness to challenge mononormative socialization, ability to manage difficult emotions, experiencing compersion and/or low levels of/well-managed jealousy, strong …
