Through characterization of the electronic excited-state topology, linear-SiCP is predicted to be photostable in the UV region, whereas linear-AlCP is predicted to undergo photodissociation to form Al+CP products after absorption of light in the 200–250 nm range, representing a catalytic process for freeing aluminum molecules from a solid dust grain. Both SiCP and AlCP are predicted to have electronic transitions with large absorption cross sections (∼10^–17 cm²) and to undergo fluorescence from bound excited states. This talk discusses the legal and political status of women prior to the American Revolution, followed by a discussion of their activities and mobilization in support of the American Revolution. Particular attention is paid to specific women such as Phillis Wheatley, Esther DeBerdt Reed, and the women of New Jersey who were allowed to vote under the NJ Constitution of 1776.

We examine the “problem of social change”, focusing on whether efforts should be oriented toward long-term ideals or piecemeal improvements. We analyse the trade-off between these approaches: pursuing ideals may require short-term sacrifices, while incremental changes may hinder realizing an ideal. We introduce an analytical framework for structuring thought experiments that can provide traction on these issues, and present two implementations that provide baseline insights and motivate further research. We conclude with suggestions for extending our framework in ways that can yield insights that can guide our choice of orientation.

Developments in computer vision have greatly advanced automated behavior detection and allow high-throughput preclinical and mechanistic studies. An integrated hardware and software solution is necessary to facilitate the adoption of these advances in the field of behavioral neurogenetics, particularly for non-computational laboratories. We have published a series of papers using an open field arena to annotate complex behaviors such as grooming, posture, and gait as well as higher-level constructs such as biological age and pain. Korean Words In The Oed: Race, Gender, And The Modern English Speaker, Elaine W. Chun

This article examines representations of the Modern English Speaker of Korean (MESK) in the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), as lexicographers listened to and documented the language of this figure over the past century. I show that, until the early twenty-first century, the most salient type of MESK was the Koreanist, a white, masculine expert on and translator of Korean, the language of a racial other. By contrast, more recent Korean entries, influenced by the global spread of hallyu, have invoked the Korea Fan, a figure that potentially unsettles longstanding ideologies of language, race, and gender. This article examines how political mediatization operates at the local level through environmental civil society activism in post-authoritarian Indonesia. Focusing on the West Sumatra chapter of the Indonesia Forum for Environment (WALHI) as a critical case, the study argues that media logic is not merely imposed by political elites or mainstream media, but is strategically appropriated by local civil society organizations to contest oligarchic power, shape public agendas, and sustain democratic engagement at the subnational level. On October 28, 2025, Florida sued California in the Supreme Court over its application of a single-sales-factor (SSF) formula to exclude large out-of-state asset sales. But Florida couched its critique in much broader terms, seemingly attacking the validity of the SSF altogether. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier (R) stated that: California has created a tax system that punishes economic freedom. We will not tolerate California over-taxing revenue earned in Florida. The Newsom regime is obviously attempting to punish business owners who have fled California due to its disastrous policies. The effect of a potentiating drug on ion channel function is typically evaluated by comparing current responses to the control agonist in the presence and absence of the potentiator. Differences in ratios of responses are then taken as proof of distinct potentiation properties when comparing modulation by different compounds. In these experiments, the concentration of the agonist is typically kept low to generate a small fractional control response. The precise relative magnitude of the control response is, however, not standardized among labs and can range from a concentration producing a response equal to just 2% of maximal (EC2) to over …

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a complex and poorly understood neurodegenerative disorder that lacks sufficiently effective treatments. Computational and integrative analyses that leverage multiomic data provide a promising strategy to uncover disease mechanisms and identify therapeutic opportunities. Here, we develop a cell type-specific regulatory atlas of the human middle temporal gyrus via leveraging single-nucleus RNA-seq (1,197,032 nuclei) and ATAC-seq (740,875 nuclei) data sets from 84 donors across four stages of AD neuropathological change (ADNC). We observe differential gene expression for six major cell types intensified at severe ADNC. Biases, generally defined as predispositions or inclinations for or against ideas, is a broadly prevalent aspect of human cognition and decision-making (Steinhauser, 2020). Bias is present in every decision-making structure, even those in which we strive for the greatest neutrality, such as the legal system (Alter, 2010). An especially important place to seek to minimize or eliminate bias is in the courtroom. Our justice system is built upon the assumption of impartiality and nonpartisanship (Rosenberg, 2008), yet biases and stereotypical decision- making are common criticisms of the court (Curley et al., 2022; Chopp, 2017). Challenging long-standing collectivist frameworks, the revolutionary moment opened new spaces for individual agency and subjective reflection. This thesis argues that New Orleans’s skilled laborers profited alongside or from enslaved laborers. Proponents of free labor ideology, largely relegated to the North, charged that the skilled mechanic was the prototypical “free laborer.” In contemporary and modern portrayals, the systems of free and enslaved labor were considered antithetical. This thesis posits that these views are incorrect. Free and enslaved labor flourished together in the Crescent City. Despite their absence in historical understandings of the antebellum South, skilled laborers succeeded in New Orleans. I track societal debates across Louisiana’s newspapers concerning the status and success of mechanics across the state. …

On his first day in office, President Trump signed an executive order seeking to drastically limit birthright citizenship—a longstanding constitutional principle under which individuals born in the United States automatically acquire citizenship, regardless of their parents’ immigration status. While many supporters of President Trump commended the order as a necessary protection against illegal immigration, constitutional law scholars on both sides of the political spectrum did not share this enthusiasm. The executive order was widely understood to conflict with the Citizenship Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment and the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, which codifies statutory protections for birthright citizenship. …

Bishkek remains heavily dependent on thermal generation to meet winter electricity and heating demand, while seasonal air pollution and growing urban energy demand continue to place pressure on aging infrastructure. Although Kyrgyzstan has adopted renewable energy targets, implementation remains limited, and winter reliability in the capital continues to depend on centralized combined heat and power generation.

This study evaluates whether Bishkek can improve its seasonal electricity adequacy by 2030 through alternative supply portfolios built around currently planned projects and moderate renewable additions. The purpose of this study is to explore the characteristics of high-achieving academic orthopedic surgeons in an attempt to extrapolate patterns and trends that govern the relationship between clinical performance and academia in orthopedic surgery. Methods: The 2023 National Plan and Provider Enumeration System and Medicare claims data (2021–2022) databases were used to include all active orthopedic surgeons of different subspecialties. Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) peel (JFP), an abundantly available lignocellulosic biomass, remains largely underutilized despite being rich in cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, and pectin. In India, approximately 13,460 hectares are under jackfruit cultivation, with Panruti in Tamil Nadu as a major production zone. The discarded peel often contributes to environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. The present study emphasizes sustainable valorization of JFP through an integrated biorefinery framework for generating value-added bioproducts.
