Judith Butler’s theory of performativity emphasizes the idea that gender is constructed through a series of repeated acts. Within this framework, labels such as ‘masc’ and ‘femme’ can play a role in shaping gender identity and expression, especially in womenloving- women (WLW) relationships. Even though queerness is famously understood as a space for challenging gender norms, and WLW relationships to that extension should be a site for gender fluidity, the use of these labels in WLW relationships can reinforce patriarchal structures by replicating binary gender expressions. Confined in spatiotemporal structures and relations, the body is caught in the linearity of economic production and the rigidity of ideological imperatives. In this setup, the objectiveness of the body is suspected of putting a person to a limit. This further interrogates and accuses the body of facilitating its own objectification. Here, I challenged prominent objections to the objectiveness of the body, particularly those coming from Marcel and the early/material feminist traditions. I then put forward a case in which the active-operative instrumentalization of the body is legitimized sans discounting the body as an addendum or mere physical extension. Further, …

Politeness is a foundational virtue, instilled from an early age, that fosters human connections and societal engagement. This virtue underscores the tremendous relationship between language and courtesy, highlighting the values of respect in interaction within the community fabric. Language's nature, as a reflection of culture, community, and identity, is analyzed, revealing its capacity to uphold or erode these societal pillars. This qualitative study examined how school-based professional development reflection programs influence teachers’ empathy across cultural differences within an independent school context. Grounded in Multicultural Theory and scholarship on empathy, the study explored how structured, sustained reflective practices shape educators’ understanding, relational engagement, and collective organizational culture. The problem of practice addressed in this study was the need for independent school leaders to cultivate culturally responsive environments within limited time and resource constraints, while serving increasingly diverse school communities. Background: Trigger finger (stenosing tenosynovitis) is a common hand condition characterized by pain, stiffness, and locking of the affected digit. Although conservative management strategies, particularly splinting and corticosteroid injections, are widely implemented in clinical practice, there is currently no universally accepted gold standard for the treatment of trigger finger. We study the problem of data transmission from mobile platforms operating in high-speed transit between cellular base stations, under conditions of unstable and intermittent connectivity. Conventional queueing and connectivity models often fail to capture the combined effects of rapidly changing signal conditions, finite buffer capacity, and dynamic topology. We aim to develop a tractable yet expressive model that integrates stochastic link availability, queue dynamics, and buffer control. We propose a mathematical framework based on queues whose service intensities are modulated by a continuous-time Markov chain (CTMC) representing signal conditions along a high-speed trajectory. However, best practices for return of results in large biobank and cohort studies do not exist currently, and how best to communicate actionable genetic research results remains unclear. Leprosy remains a public health problem in Indonesia. In 2023, Indonesia ranked third globally in the number of leprosy cases, with 14,376 reported cases, after India (107,851 cases) and Brazil (22,773 cases). One of the key strategies for leprosy control in Indonesia is the implementation of preventive measures, including home visits and the administration of chemoprophylaxis using single-dose rifampicin (SDR). Post-exposure prophylaxis plays an important role in preventing leprosy transmission among contacts of confirmed patients. The Role of Wait Time Disclosures in Public Housing: Evidence from Seattle: This paper studies how providing wait time information affects applicant choices and allocation outcomes in a public housing allocation mechanism, where applicants choose their preferred communities and receive housing units on a first-come, first-served basis. Under such a mechanism, applicants' choices depend on their preferences and subjective beliefs about expected wait times for each community. Despite of advances in cardiac and surgical care, some children with complex congenital heart disease remain cyanotic in adulthood. The grown-up cyanotic congenital heart diseases are heterogeneous due to their underlying cardiac anatomy and physiology. Other than cardiovascular problems, they patients are also faced with multi-system complications in the long run. Therefore, these patients need nuanced and comprehensive assessment, regular follow-up monitoring, and multi-facet management. In this article, the types and classification of cyanotic congenital heart diseases, the multi-system complications and the approach to assessment and treatment will be presented.

It has often been suggested that similar quantum particles may be a counterexample to the principle of the Identity of Indiscernibles. In this article, I discuss the status of indiscernibility in a perspectival approach to quantum mechanics. I argue that adopting an internal physical perspective can have the effect of making entities discernible even if they are not discernible relative to external reference frames, and thus perspectivalism offers a new way to understand the physical meaning of weak discernibility. I discuss whether this approach is circular, and I consider whether the reference frames involved are physically meaningful. I conclude that …

Could there be quantum superpositions of conscious states, as suggested by the Wigner’s friend thought experiment? Mathematical theories of consciousness, notably integrated information theory (IIT), make this question more precise by associating physical systems with both quantitative amounts of consciousness and structural characterizations of conscious states. Motivated by a recent proposal that ties wave-function collapse to integrated information, we construct a simple quantum circuit that would, on that proposal, place a minimal system—a feedback dyad—into a superposition of states that differ in their associated conscious states. Photonic systems with exceptional points, where eigenvalues and corresponding eigenstates coalesce, have attracted interest due to their topological features and enhanced sensitivity to external perturbations. Non-Hermitian mode-coupling matrices provide a tractable analytic framework to model gain, loss, and chirality across optical, electronic, and mechanical platforms without the complexity of full open-system dynamics. Exceptional points define their spectral topology, and enable applications in mode control, amplification, and sensing. The mechanical properties of brake pad composites produced from powdered Pentaclethra macrophylla pod reinforced with gum Arabic resin were investigated. The pods were cleaned, air-dried, oven-dried at 110 °C to constant weight, pulverized, and sieved, after which a portion was carbonized at 950 °C. Composite formulation was carried out using a pre-impregnation technique, with the reinforcement content varied from 10 to 50 wt% at 10 wt% intervals, while other constituents were maintained constant. Organic soils exhibit highly variable geotechnical behavior due to differences in the type, content, and decomposition state of organic matter, which are often inadequately distinguished in engineering practice. This study investigates the influence of organic matter origin on soil behavior through a comparative analysis of sapric organic soils and sewage sludge soil tested under identical one-dimensional consolidation conditions. Laboratory tests included physical characterization, standard consolidation tests under vertical stresses of 200 kPa and 800 kPa, post-consolidation organic matter measurements, and microstructural analyses using SEM–EDS and XRD. It aims to explore the mathematical concepts embedded in weton calculations and to analyse these practices from an Islamic law perspective within an interdisciplinary framework. This article critically assesses India’s recent claims of rapid poverty reduction by examining the methodological, political, and data-related foundations of the Niti Aayog Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI). It scrutinises key methodological choices such as indicator selection, weighting structures, and the dependence on NFHS (National Family Health Survey) data which only partially reflect the socioeconomic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing on debates surrounding the Alkire–Foster framework, the essay highlights how modifications to the MPI such as the inclusion of widely achieved indicators and the exclusion of consumption expenditure may underestimate deprivation and produce overly optimistic trends. Increasing political polarization is a prominent feature of the twenty-first-century political landscape, with social media playing a significant role. This essay evaluates social media as a political platform through Hannah Arendt’s notion of the Vita Activa, which describes the political realm and the ideas of totalitarianism. Using this framework, I argue that the surging political use of social media creates digital “echo chambers” that result from the loss of human plurality, which ultimately marks the diverse nature of the political realm. In their paper, Evidence, Pragmatics, and Justification Fantl and McGrath offer a seemingly intuitive and attractive route to a revision of what counts as epistemic justification and knowledge. They argue that knowledge is not just a matter of evidence, but depends in part on one’s practical situation. Higher stakes and different utilities can change whether a belief is knowledge-constituting. This essay will argue that Fantl and McGrath’s attempt to use their Knowledge-Action principle (KA) to back pragmatic encroachment ultimately fails.
