Exceptional Variety Of Baryte-Celestine-Series Speleothems In Lechuguilla Cave (New Mexico, Usa), Max Wisshak, Johannes Birkenstock, Andrea Schröder-Ritzrau, Norbert Frank, Hazel A. Barton, Harvey R. Duchene

International Journal of Speleology

An inventory of speleothems primarily composed of the closely related sulfate minerals baryte (BaSO4) and celestine (SrSO4) in Lechuguilla Cave (New Mexico, USA) has revealed an extraordinary variety. This includes subaerial stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, coralloids, wall crusts, floor crystals, snow, frostwork, and subaqueous pool crystals. Large baryte and celestine crystals have also been documented in hydrothermal veins in the host rock, predating the cave and truncated when intersected by it. The respective carbonate mineral phases witherite (BaCO3) and strontianite (SrCO3), in contrast, were found to be rare in the studied speleothem samples, …

Protecting Journalism From National Security In Contemporary India, Manish . Feb 2026

Protecting Journalism From National Security In Contemporary India, Manish .

National Law School of India Review

Freedom of the press is an important element of a robust democracy. In India, press freedom lacks statutory protection, leaving constitutional protection under Article 19(1)(a) as the only remedy. In recent years, the use of anti-terror laws against journalists investigating alleged lapses or excesses by the state has posed a particular threat to press freedom, given the largely minimalist and statist interpretation that the Supreme Court of India has given to these laws. This has been compounded by the election and re-election of an autocratic populist government to Parliament, which has sought to use law as a means of ensuring …

Methods And Systems For Modifying Intron Sequences To Remove Restriction Sites While Preserving Gene Accumulation Enhancement In Transgenic Plants, Cory Tobin Feb 2026

Methods And Systems For Modifying Intron Sequences To Remove Restriction Sites While Preserving Gene Accumulation Enhancement In Transgenic Plants, Cory Tobin

Defensive Publications Series

The present invention provides methods and systems for modifying intron sequences to enable their use in modular cloning (MoClo) systems while preserving their ability to enhance gene accumulation. The invention addresses a critical challenge in molecular cloning where beneficial introns contain restriction enzyme recognition sites that interfere with MoClo assembly. The methods include computational approaches for identifying minimal sequence modifications needed to eliminate restriction sites while maintaining intron functionality, experimental validation protocols for confirming preserved enhancement properties, and high-throughput screening systems for rapidly assessing multiple intron variants. In particular embodiments, the invention demonstrates successful modification of introns for enhanced accumulation …

Belief Hijacking Attacks On Ai Defenders: “Manipulating What Ai Systems Believe About Threats, Actors, And Risks”, Pranav Bhatanagar Mr Feb 2026

Belief Hijacking Attacks On Ai Defenders: “Manipulating What Ai Systems Believe About Threats, Actors, And Risks”, Pranav Bhatanagar Mr

Defensive Publications Series

Artificial intelligence systems are increasingly deployed as autonomous defenders in modern cybersecurity environments. These systems continuously analyze network behavior, evaluate threat intelligence, assess risk levels, and recommend or execute defensive actions. Central to their effectiveness is the formation of internal beliefs regarding attacker intent, infrastructure trustworthiness, vulnerability severity, and operational priority. While existing research has focused on attacks that manipulate detection accuracy, evade classifiers, or bypass response mechanisms, far less attention has been given to vulnerabilities in belief formation processes themselves. This paper introduces Belief Hijacking Attacks, a novel class of adversarial strategies that target how AI defenders construct, update, …

Reality Distortion Attacks On Autonomous Security Agents: Manipulating Internal World Models In Ai Defenders, Pranav Bhatanagar Mr Feb 2026

Reality Distortion Attacks On Autonomous Security Agents: Manipulating Internal World Models In Ai Defenders, Pranav Bhatanagar Mr

Defensive Publications Series

Autonomous artificial intelligence systems are increasingly deployed as primary defenders in modern cybersecurity environments. These systems rely on internal world models to interpret network behavior, assess threats, and guide automated response. While existing research has focused extensively on attacks that manipulate inputs, outputs, and learning processes, limited attention has been given to threats that target internal perception. This paper introduces Reality Distortion Attacks, a novel class of adversarial strategies that manipulate how autonomous security agents model and understand their operational environment. Rather than inducing immediate misclassification, these attacks gradually reshape situational awareness by influencing sensor inputs, feedback mechanisms, contextual signals, …

Intent-Obfuscation Attacks: Evading Ai Security By Manipulating Meaning, Pranav Bhatanagar Mr Feb 2026

Intent-Obfuscation Attacks: Evading Ai Security By Manipulating Meaning, Pranav Bhatanagar Mr

Defensive Publications Series

As artificial intelligence systems increasingly rely on intent-based security mechanisms to regulate user behavior, the nature of adversarial interaction is undergoing a subtle but significant shift. Rather than attempting to bypass safeguards through explicit policy violations or recognizable malicious patterns, attackers are increasingly manipulating meaning itself. This paper introduces Intent-Obfuscation Attacks, a class of semantic evasion techniques that exploit the gap between surface-level language compliance and the underlying objectives inferred by AI systems. Unlike traditional prompt injection or keyword-based attacks, intent-obfuscation operates through linguistic ambiguity, contextual indirection, and gradual semantic drift. Individual interactions appear benign and policy-compliant, yet when interpreted …

Hallucination-Driven Exploits: Weaponizing Ai False Confidence In Cybersecurity Systems, Pranav Bhatanagar Mr Feb 2026

Hallucination-Driven Exploits: Weaponizing Ai False Confidence In Cybersecurity Systems, Pranav Bhatanagar Mr

Defensive Publications Series

Artificial intelligence systems, particularly large language models, are now routinely used in operational cybersecurity environments. They assist analysts with alert triage, incident response, threat intelligence interpretation, and day-to-day decision-making in situations where information is incomplete and time pressure is constant. Much of the existing research on AI security has focused on direct attacks such as prompt injection, jailbreaks, or data poisoning. In contrast, this paper examines a quieter but increasingly consequential risk: the impact of confident hallucinations in security-critical contexts. When AI systems provide incorrect guidance with high confidence, the resulting decisions can materially affect defensive posture even when no …

Factors That Contribute To Lone-Wolf Terrorist Attacks In The United States, Kevin Klatte Feb 2026

Factors That Contribute To Lone-Wolf Terrorist Attacks In The United States, Kevin Klatte

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Within the United States, current strategies aimed to prevent terrorism focus on terrorist organizations and international terrorism. The predominant literature on lone-wolf terrorism has focused mainly on quantitative data, and the qualitative studies that have been conducted do not uncover all factors that led to the individual committing the attack. Lone-wolf terrorism, while less frequent than international terrorism, has a significantly higher number of victims per attack and is extremely difficult to predict and prevent. The existing qualitative literature has heavily focused on the mental state, emotional status, and cognitive ability of the offender. This study explored why an individual …
