This publication discloses methods and systems for validated runtime extension of executing multi-step processes with structural safety guarantees. In one embodiment, when a proposed extension comprising additional process steps and their dependencies is submitted for incorporation into an executing process, the system evaluates the proposed extension against a set of structural validation predicates before any modification to the executing process is permitted. The structural validation predicates are deterministic checks that verify structural integrity properties of the proposed extension relative to the current process structure, including termination verification (confirming that the extended structure preserves finite completion), data flow compatibility checking (confirming …

This publication discloses methods and systems for ensuring temporal consistency across multi-step decision processes that evaluate organisational decisions against rules and policies drawn from multiple independent sources. In one embodiment, a temporal reference is captured at the initiation of a decision process and carried through all subsequent evaluation steps, ensuring that every step observes the policy environment as it existed at a consistent policy snapshot. This publication discloses methods and systems for associating context-dependent meaning definitions with terms used in decision evaluation, where the meaning of a given term varies depending on the decision context in which it is evaluated. In one embodiment, a decision evaluation system manages terms through a controlled vocabulary definition in which each governed term identifier maintains a single managed identity across all decision contexts — for purposes of lifecycle management, alternative name resolution, and administrative tracking — while the interpretation rules, typing constraints, and validation logic associated with that term differ depending on which decision context references it. The Outbound Investment Rule, restricting U.S. investment in certain Chinese advanced technology sectors, has largely been portrayed as an incremental measure, a modest extension to fill loopholes in the existing investment screening regime. But while perhaps the logical next step in the securitization of the economy, the Outbound Investment Rule actually reflects a momentous shift in the relationship between governments and business, one playing out in the United States and around the world and worth attention. This Article examines how Chinese multinational companies (MNCs) approach compliance in the United States amid deepening geo-political rivalry and intensified regulatory scrutiny. Drawing on original survey data, this Article maps variations in compliance structures, staffing, and governance mechanisms across Chinese firms and identifies key determinants such as industry-specific regulatory intensity, listing status, and organizational imprinting from headquarters. The analysis employs a dual institutional framework to explain how compliance systems emerge from the interplay between host-state regulatory demands and home-state institutional legacies, producing hybrid structures that blend local adaptation with headquarters-driven replication. This article explores convergences and divergencies in the United States and PRC’s responses to the stalemate in the United Nations over the future of outer space resource governance. I do so by systematically analyzing these leading space-faring nations’ policy-positions and tactics deployed to shape norms around three substantive areas of outer space resource governance: rights of ownership and scope of utilization of space resources, mechanization of the “benefits sharing” principle, and the rights and responsibilities of the private sector. Human sex ratios at birth (SRBs) shape population composition and are closely linked to maternal health and gender discrimination. In the context of environmental change, SRBs may theoretically be skewed by physiological or behavioral responses to exposure to extreme heat. However, evidence for this is limited. In this study, we estimate the effect of prenatal exposure to temperature on birth sex by linking survey data on 5 million live births in 33 sub-Saharan African countries and India with high-resolution temperature data. To distinguish between spontaneous and induced abortions, we exploit sociodemographic differentials, exposure timing, and regional differences in son preference. …

The Bermuda fireworm, Odontosyllis enopla Verrill, 1900, is a marine polychaete that displays a unique bioluminescent mating ritual. Despite the first sighting of O. enopla more than 534 years ago, molecular data have been limited. Several syllid mitogenomes are currently available; however, there are only three published genes for O. enopla: two partial mitochondrial genes (16S [508 bp] and cox1 [653 bp]; 1,161 bp total) and one partial nuclear gene (18S [1,339 bp]). This study bioinformatically mined previously published transcriptomes of O. enopla for mitochondrial reads and subsequently assembled and annotated a partial mitochondrial genome (10,172 bp). Background

“That’s just your perception” is a frequent response when told “That’s unprofessional.” Yet unprofessional behavior adversely affects individual learning and team functioning, while increasing avoidable patient complications and malpractice claims.   But what if professionalism is reframed as trust? Is there agreement on which behaviors would adversely affect trust; thus, providing a different way to approach this quagmire? Is the person competent with humility? Is reliable? Do they care about others (beneficence)? Using an established four component model of trust as a framework, we wondered if key GME stakeholders would agree on what were untrustworthy behaviors.

This doctoral dissertation comprehensively investigates the underexplored phenomenon of noise-induced extreme events (EE). The word “extreme” is accompanied by an occurring “event” when the deviation is extreme or higher than that of regular occurrences. These extreme occurrences are rare, abrupt, sudden, and irregular, often causing a profound impact on the system and its surroundings. Tsunami, earthquakes, solar flares, and tornadoes are such events that do not occur often but still significantly cause damage to mankind. Technological advancements in wearable devices and medical imaging often lead to high-dimensional physiological signals in the form of images or surfaces. To address these data structures, we develop a novel survival on image regression model with a specific focus on partially functional distributional representation of wearable data. The existing approaches for functional data and survival outcomes have been primarily developed for uni-dimensional functional predictors. Drawing on recent developments in distributional data analysis, we model temporally varying distributional patterns of physical activity (PA) as a partially functional distributional predictor within a semiparametric Cox model framework. The First Department affirmed the Supreme Court's denial of the tenants' Article 78 petition challenging DHCR's grant of Major Capital Improvement (MCI) rent increases for a 2014 intercom replacement. The court deferred to DHCR's interpretation of former Rent Stabilization Code § 2522.4, which allows an MCI increase even within the useful life of an improvement if an MCI increase was not previously granted for that specific improvement. Finding DHCR's long-standing interpretation rational and consistent with precedent, the court concluded that the agency's determination was not arbitrary and capricious.

This Article studies the evolution of the scholarly subfield referred to as the law of “international business transactions” (IBT). It reviews data on academic articles, courses, textbooks and other signifiers of the growth of this research area. Beginning around 1960, scholars began to use the term “international business transactions” and by the 1980s, several law schools were offering a course by that title. A handful of dedicated textbooks soon followed. These data reflect a gradual increase in research on the topic of IBT, particularly in the United States, but also considerable diversity of subject matters covered by those works. The …

Energy-related conflicts are on the rise, spanning diverse issues such as the impacts of rare mineral mining on local communities, the impacts of sanctions on energy investments due to the Russia-Ukraine war, and the impacts of expanded subsidies on the electric vehicle and solar panel industries. Increasingly, companies, communities, and governments are clashing over the challenges of pursuing disparate and sometimes competing energy policies. This Article argues that dispute resolution mechanisms in the energy investment sector must be fundamentally rethought. There has been a seismic shift in American attitudes toward the free flow of data across borders.  In less than a decade, the United States has transitioned from condemning barriers to digital trade to constructing a digital fortress of its own. It passed legislation requiring TikTok’s parent company to divest its U.S. operations or face a nationwide ban affecting 170 million U.S. users, citing national security concerns about its ties to China and the potential for data surveillance and content manipulation.
