This Article reexamines W.E.B. Du Bois’s theory of the “Talented Tenth” through the lens of contemporary African American males in urban educational contexts. This Article claims that law and the rule of law ought not be seen as coextensive concepts, for if a legal order’s deviations from rule of law ideals count equally as departures from criteria for being a legal system at all, then the rule of law loses motivation as a discrete concept. In recent years, automated license plate reader (“ALPR”) systems have transformed criminal investigation by providing law enforcement with extensive information about suspects’ movements. Prosecutors have defended this practice as firmly grounded in the Supreme Court’s traditional Fourth Amendment jurisprudence. Privacy advocates have responded by arguing that certain Supreme Court cases dealing with new technology show an emerging interest in modifying those doctrines to enhance individual liberty. But to date, with a few isolated exceptions, both state and federal courts have declined to require law enforcement to obtain search warrants before using evidence from ALPRs. The executive removal power figures prominently on the Supreme Court’s current agenda. That agenda is beset, however, by a historical misunderstanding, when it comes to multi-member bodies, which too often are assumed to be modern creatures. This paper provides crucial new historical evidence showing that the Founders, indeed a who’s who list of Founders, approved and even sat on commissions in the Republic’s early years. In some cases, the Founders called these early commissions “independent,” deferred to their judgments as “final,” and demanded that the members be “impartial.” Given the vast discretion given these commissions, these characteristics are best described …

This foreword opens an anthology that explores research and experiences at the intersection of Palestine and libraries. Part one examines how Palestinian librarians, archivists, and individuals resist erasure by preserving Palestinian materials and narratives and by ensuring Palestinians’ access to library resources amidst recurring cycles of destruction and confiscation. Part two explores how librarians in the United States respond to pressure from right-wing and pro-Israel advocacy groups that are quick to label any effort to include Palestinians and their histories as antisemitic.

Microporous annealed particle (MAP) scaffolds are emerging as a facile, yet sophisticated biomaterial platform with tremendous potential for tissue regenerative applications. These scaffolds are fabricated in situ through interparticle crosslinking of microgels using a variety of covalent or non-covalent techniques and possess excellent tunability and biocompatibility. The microporous structure of MAP scaffolds allows cellular infiltration and vascularization independent of degradation rate, making them more advantageous than traditional nanoporous bulk hydrogels. Moreover, the incorporation of in situ crosslinking allows MAP scaffolds to retain the key advantages of traditional microgel-based scaffolds—such as injectability and modularity—while providing the added benefit of a fixed …

With immigration enforcement sharply rising, noncitizens increasingly face deportation with few constitutional protections. Yet many remain at least entitled to a fundamentally fair hearing before an immigration court. Even before the current administration, however, immigration courts had become notorious for systematically violating noncitizens’ due process rights. And while other scholars have suggested broadscale reforms to tackle this problem, statutory and regulatory change has become all but unachievable. Biodiesel is a promising, sustainable alternative to fossil fuels such as petrol and diesel. Currently, biodiesel can be produced from edible plant oils and non-edible sources and wastes. Notably, fish waste oil is a sustainable resource for transesterification reactions to produce biodiesel. This research proposes a general process design methodology to investigate the potential of biodiesel production from fish waste oil as a pathway for waste-to-energy.
