Outcome-Based Patient-Therapist Matching Implementation: A Study Of Clinician Beliefs And Attitudes, Ashleigh Smith

Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)

Background. Implementation science aims to identify methods that support the adoption of evidence-based practices (EBPs), including measurement-based care (MBC) and MBC-informed patient-therapist matching. Examining clinician attitudes can elucidate potential barriers to implementing EBPs, and attitudinal differences may exist across groups of therapists. In the context of a patient-therapist matching implementation project, this multi-method study investigated the relationship between clinician characteristics, attitudes toward EBPs/MBC, and implementation climate. Method. A sample of N = 72 therapists completed measures of demographic and clinical characteristics, attitudes toward EBPs, perceptions of implementation climate, and attitudes toward monitoring and feedback. The Guild House: A Mixed-Methods Case Study Of Game-Utilizing Information/Learning Design For Autonomy-Supportive Instruction In An Asynchronous Online Course, Sturdy Knight

Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)

Gamification has emerged over the past ~10-12 years as a popular design approach to problems of motivation in online or blended learning, with a particular emphasis on distinguishing between extrinsic motivation driven by points, grades, class rank, etc, vs. intrinsic motivation driven by personal values and interest in the curriculum. Self-Determination Theory (SDT) forms the theoretical basis of much of this literature, yet the mediating constructs of learner self-regulation and autonomous vs. controlled regulatory styles, which describe the processes by which extrinsic motivators like game rewards or curriculum requirements are integrated with intrinsic goals, are under-addressed. This has led to …

Intrinsic Lipid Curvature And Bilayer Elasticity As Regulators Of Channel Function: A Comparative Single-Molecule Study, Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman, Roger E. Koeppe Ii, Olaf S. Andersen

Chemistry & Biochemistry Faculty Publications and Presentations

Perturbations in bilayer material properties (thickness, lipid intrinsic curvature and elastic moduli) modulate the free energy difference between different membrane protein conformations, thereby leading to changes in the conformational preferences of bilayer-spanning proteins. To further explore the relative importance of curvature and elasticity in determining the changes in bilayer properties that underlie the modulation of channel function, we investigated how the micelle-forming amphiphiles Triton X-100, reduced Triton X-100 and the HII lipid phase promoter capsaicin modulate the function of alamethicin and gramicidin channels. Whether the amphiphile-induced changes in intrinsic curvature were negative or positive, amphiphile addition increased gramicidin channel …

Transcription And Translation Regulation Of Germ Cell To Maternal Transition, Noor Kotb Jan 2024

Transcription And Translation Regulation Of Germ Cell To Maternal Transition, Noor Kotb

Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)

In sexually reproducing organisms, the process of gametogenesis produces mature eggs and sperms required for fertilization to occur. The egg's quality is crucial for the healthy development of the next generation, making oogenesis a tightly regulated process with multiple benchmarks. To investigate the intricacies of oogenesis, we utilized the Drosophila oogenesis system as our primary model. This choice was motivated by several factors. Firstly, the process of egg development in Drosophila is conserved across species, making it a valuable proxy for understanding oogenesis in other organisms, including humans. Secondly, Drosophila melanogaster has long been established as a powerhouse in genetic …

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) is a cofactor that serves to shuttle electrons during metabolic processes such as glycolysis, the tricarboxylic acid cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS). NADH is autofluorescent, and its fluorescence lifetime can be used to infer metabolic dynamics in living cells. Fiber-coupled time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC) equipped with an implantable needle probe can be used to measure NADH lifetime in vivo, enabling investigation of changing metabolic demand during muscle contraction or tissue regeneration. This study illustrates a proof of concept for point-based, minimally-invasive NADH fluorescence lifetime measurement in vivo. Volumetric muscle loss (VML) injuries were …

Not Just A Simple Survey: A Case Study Of Pitfalls In Interdisciplinary, Multiorganizational, Multinational Research For Development, Fleur B.M. Kilwinger, Cynthia Caron, Anne M. Reitveld, Ynte K. Van Dam

Sustainability and Social Justice

Surveys are common research methods in agricultural research for development. Despite the multitude of well-documented warnings for pitfalls in survey research, it appears challenging to avoid these in practice. We use a case study in agricultural research for development to illustrate what complicates survey research within an interdisciplinary, multiorganizational and multinational team. The survey research process, rather than the survey outcome, is our object of study. Using the Methodology of Interdisciplinary Research (MIR) framework we identify different steps within survey research. We overlay a technographic lens to understand “the making of a survey”. We thereby focus on the transformations made …

Development Of A Measure Assessing Adolescent Aggression: The Aggressive Behavior Risk Assessment- Adolescent- Parent Report (Abra-A-Pr), Katherine Fallon

College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations

Although parent-report scales for general behavioral difficulties and aggression (e.g., verbal and physical aggression) exist, there are currently no measures assessing sexual behaviors in this context. Commonly, parent-report measures provide a few items relevant to behavioral aggression, and items encompassing sexually aggressive behaviors are frequently vague and non-specific in the actions being committed by the adolescent. The primary purpose of this project was to develop a comprehensive and multifaceted parent-report measure for aggressive behavior in adolescents. Three separate studies were conducted to evaluate the psychometric properties of the measure. Exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used to investigate …

Sialylation As A Mechanism For Preferential Ligand Binding In Cfs1r, Eric J. Beaulaurier Jan 2024

Sialylation As A Mechanism For Preferential Ligand Binding In Cfs1r, Eric J. Beaulaurier

EWU Masters Thesis Collection

Macrophages are immune cells that help provide the first line of defense against a wide range of internal and external insults and create the bridge between innate and adaptive immune responses. When macrophage homeostasis is disrupted, disease states occur. Associated disease states include rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, and multiple sclerosis. The survival and proliferation of macrophages is largely controlled by signaling through colony stimulating factor 1 receptor (CSF1R). Notably, this receptor can be activated by two non-homologous ligands, colony stimulating factor 1 (CSF1) and interleukin- 34 (IL-34). These two ligands are differentially required for macrophage homeostasis across body systems and …

The Elwha and Glines Canyon dams on the Elwha River, Washington, USA were removed between 2011 and 2014 after being in place for a century, and at the time were the largest dams ever removed. The resulting dewatering of Lake Aldwell, the reservoir of the Elwha dam, and Lake Mills, the reservoir of the Glines Canyon dam exposed over 270 hectares of land that had been submerged. While several studies have examined the revegetation of these drained reservoirs, none have gone beyond 5 years since dam removal. These studies found that sediment grain size and reservoir landform (valley walls, terraces …

Disability In Education From A Neurodiversity Standpoint: A Multi-Article Dissertation, Isabelle Kluge Jan 2024

Disability In Education From A Neurodiversity Standpoint: A Multi-Article Dissertation, Isabelle Kluge

Antioch University Dissertations & Theses

This theoretical multi-article dissertation is a broad examination of education, including trends in our school system, juvenile justice system, and cultural/media system to address the disproportionate targeted failure of students with disabilities from a neurodiversity standpoint. Research shows how our current education system is not the practice of freedom for all learners, but rather a reproductive practice that teaches forms of group-based privilege that results in the disproportionate outcome of school failure, oppression, and incarceration for students with disabilities. Creating liberatory learning spaces for neurodiverse students of all races must include challenging White supremacy, neurotypical superiority, and a standardized one-size-fits-all …

Exploring The Impact Of Early Adversity On Young Children With Autism, Kelsea M. Batista

Antioch University Dissertations & Theses

This dissertation builds on a small but growing literature exploring the association between early adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Research suggests that children with ASD are more likely to experience ACEs throughout their lifetime due to increased vulnerability to victimization and social communication deficits. Still, to date, there is scant research explicitly exploring the impact of ACEs on young children diagnosed with ASD. This study utilized a biopsychosocial framework to further examine whether a relationship exists between ACEs and ASD. The objectives of this study include: (a) to determine whether a relationship exists …

Spatial And Temporal Variation In Population Genetic Diversity In Seagrasses And The Implications For Resilience, Anna Maria Frouws Jan 2024

Spatial And Temporal Variation In Population Genetic Diversity In Seagrasses And The Implications For Resilience, Anna Maria Frouws

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

Seagrass ecosystems are highly productive and fulfil vital roles in the coastal environment as ecosystem engineers and keystone species. Unfortunately, anthropogenic pressures have resulted in a significant loss of seagrass habitat and associated ecosystem services. The complex and unpredictable nature of these pressures, and their increasing extent and intensity globally, makes resilience-based ecosystem management a valuable approach. Resilience-based management requires knowledge on processes enhancing ecosystem resilience and on actions supporting these processes. Genetic diversity, which is the allelic variation among individuals of a population, has been recognised as one of the pillars of resilient ecosystems. Genetic diversity within a population …

The Texas Heart Institute Journal

BACKGROUND: Valve-in-valve (ViV) transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is quickly becoming a routine and effective means by which to treat degenerated bioprosthetic valves. A known complication of ViV-TAVI is patient-prosthesis mismatch, which substantially affects survival. Bioprosthetic valve fracture is a method by which to reduce the risk of patient-prosthesis mismatch and post-ViV-TAVI transvalvular gradients. This study sought to determine the safety and efficacy of post-ViV-TAVI bioprosthetic valve fracture.

METHODS: Patients with a history of surgical aortic valve replacement undergoing ViV-TAVI bioprosthetic valve fracture (N = 25) at the corresponding institution from 2015 to 2022 were cataloged for a retrospective analysis. …

Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase 2 (KPC-2) is an important source of drug resistance as it can hydrolyze and inactivate virtually all β-lactam antibiotics. KPC-2 is potently inhibited by avibactam via formation of a reversible carbamyl linkage of the inhibitor with the catalytic serine of the enzyme. However, the use of avibactam in combination with ceftazidime (CAZ-AVI) has led to the emergence of CAZ-AVI-resistant variants of KPC-2 in clinical settings. One such variant, KPC-44, bears a 15 amino acid duplication in one of the active-site loops (270-loop). Here, we show that the KPC-44 variant exhibits higher catalytic efficiency in hydrolyzing ceftazidime, lower …
