Beyond The ‘Boy Crisis’: Reframing Gender Performativity In Belgian Classrooms, Marjolein Vanmaercke

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

This thesis challenges the dominant discourse surrounding the so-called "boy crisis" in education by critically examining gender performativity in Belgian classrooms. Rather than accepting the narrative that boys are inherently disadvantaged in contemporary schooling, this study interrogates how gender is constructed and performed within educational settings. Drawing on Judith Butler’s theory of performativity, the research explores how teachers, curricula, and peer interactions contribute to the reinforcement or subversion of traditional gender norms. Using qualitative methods, including classroom observations and interviews with educators and students, the study highlights the ways in which gendered expectations shape students' educational experiences and outcomes. The …

Biological Fluorescence Sensor Derived From Naphthalimide-Functionalized Pillar[5]Arene, Yanisa Sanguansap

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Lung cancer has unavoidably encountered the most substantial fatality rate in recent years worldwide. The development of efficient and accessible diagnostic methods is required to assess disease severity. Prior studies have discovered the highest levels of long-chain aldehyde compounds particularly octanal (C8), nonanal (C9), and L-glutathione (L-GSH) as potential biomarkers for lung cancer. Herein, the novel artificial fluorescence sensor HNP5A containing bis-hydrazine naphthalimide decorated pillar[5]arene and 1,2-bis(6-bromohexyl)disulfane (BS) containing a disulfide part linked to a terminal bromoalkane were designed for two conceptual approaches. The first concept, sensor HNP5A has been accomplished for sensitive and selective detection of long-chain aldehydes. This …

Development Of Regional Severity-Duration-Frequency (Sdf) Curves In Cambodia Using Standardized Precipitation Index (Spi), Sophanny Phan

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Drought is one of the most destructive natural hazards that causes scarcity and lack of water in hydrological basins and impacts economic, social, and environmental system. This study aims to develop Severity-Duration-Frequency (SDF) curves to provide a comprehensive characterization of droughts in the Lower Mekong River Basin in Cambodia from 1985 to 2022. A Bayesian bias correction technique was applied to improve reanalysis rainfall data from ERA-5, resulting in enhanced accuracy which evidenced by an 11% increase in correlation coefficients (R), a 9% improvement in Nash-Sutcliff efficiency (NSE), and a 45% reduction in RMSE. The corrected rainfall data were then …

Using Obstacle Trenches For Enhancing Microplastic Trapping In Microwells, Teeraphat Kongsaktrakul Jan 2024

Using Obstacle Trenches For Enhancing Microplastic Trapping In Microwells, Teeraphat Kongsaktrakul

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The particle trapping efficiency of microwells is influenced by the fluid flow velocity. If the flow velocity is too slow, trapping will take longer. In contrast, if the flow velocity is too fast, the trapping efficiency will decrease. Therefore, deceleration near the microwells is important for increasing trapping efficiency. The aim of this study is to investigate important factors that affect local flow velocity and trapping efficiency. This includes the presence of obstacle trenches, flow rates, particle concentrations, particle sizes, and surface materials. Two models were investigated and compared: one with triangular obstacle trenches placed in front of the microwells …

Regeneration Of Carbon Dioxide-Rich Amines Via Mineralization, Tanasorn Thumpanisakool Jan 2024

Regeneration Of Carbon Dioxide-Rich Amines Via Mineralization, Tanasorn Thumpanisakool

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Carbon dioxide (CO2) a major driver of the increasing greenhouse effect, making the development of CO2 capture and utilization technologies. Although monoethanolamine (MEA) is a highly efficient sorbent, the energy cost of its thermal regeneration remains a significant challenge. This thesis investigates a low-energy regeneration route for MEA based on mineralized CO2. Especially, the study systematically investigates the effects of MEA concentration, calcium source selection, and amine regeneration mechanisms. A 5 M MEA solution achieved a CO2 loading capacity up to 2.9 mol/L. However, mineralization with CaSO4 alone resulted in irreversible MEA protonation and poor reusability. Mechanistic analysis revealed that …
