"Shut Down And Closed Off": A Routine Activity Approach To Investigating The Relationship Between Covid-19 School Closures And Child Sexual Abuse Report Characteristics In Georgia, Spencer E. Riner
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 created a public health crisis that led to an unprecedented number of school closures. A major concern raised by child advocates, law enforcement, and social service providers was the possible increase in undetected child abuse and maltreatment. Undergirding this concern was the belief that this mitigation effort might place child abuse victims and offenders within proximity for extended periods of time. While this was a significant concern, it has rarely been analyzed empirically. To address this gap in the literature, this thesis investigates how school closures impacted the characteristics of child sexual abuse (CSA) reports …

Characterization Of Carbon Nanotube/Polystyrene Composites Prepared Via Microwave-Induced Polymerization, Hubert Agamasu
Characterization Of Carbon Nanotube/Polystyrene Composites Prepared Via Microwave-Induced Polymerization, Hubert Agamasu
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), with their excellent mechanical properties, are well suited to the production of composites with good strength-to-weight ratio. However, the use of nanotubes as reinforcement is hampered by the lack of interaction between their inert surfaces and matrices. This, coupled with the van der Waal’s interactions between individual nanotubes, leads to agglomeration of CNTs in media. Functionalization is an efficient means to disperse nanotubes as well as increase their reactivity. The irradiation of CNTs with microwaves generates instantaneous, localized heating, being used in this work to trigger the rapid, thermal, free radical polymerization of styrene. Under microwaves, olefin-functionalized …

Gender Representation In Modern Children’S Media: The Disguised Damsel In Distress, Alex Bonham Walsh
Dean James E. McLeod Freshman Writing Prize
This paper examines the influence that children’s media has on the formation of gender identity in young children. Through an analysis of the psychology behind children’s formation of gender, coupled with Judith Butler’s theory of gender performativity and history acts, this paper delves into the media’s perpetuation of gender roles and highlights the its critical role in providing children with examples about how to consider and embody one’s gender. Children’s media still possesses gender stereotypes and traditional associations, despite modern movies’ attempts to shift away from harmful narratives. Research demonstrates that children absorb these cues, adopting gendered behaviors and societal …

Mansoura Journal of Dentistry
Objective: This study aimed to compare injectable PRF (I-PRF) with a collagen carrier and β-Tricalcium Phosphate (β-TCP) for maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA) with simultaneous implant placement.
Materials and methods: Fourteen patients with missed maxillary posterior teeth and 3-5 mm residual bone height (RBH) were selected to perform lateral MSFA with simultaneous implant placement. A total of 18 sites (implants) in 13 patients were qualified for analysis, 10 sites with I-PRF and collagen carrier (group I) and 8 sites with β-TCP (group II). Six months later, implant stability was recorded, and all sites were analyzed using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) …
The Trouble With Classifications, Aziz Z. Huq
The Trouble With Classifications, Aziz Z. Huq
Public Law and Legal Theory Working Papers
The Supreme Court relies increasingly on anti-classification rules to implement the Constitution’s commands of even-handed state treatment. These rules direct attention to whether an instance of a forbidden classification is present on the face of a challenged law. They contain two necessary steps. First, a court defines a general category of impermissible terms. Second, a court ascertains whether an instance of the category is found in enacted text—triggering the familiar strict scrutiny analysis. So defined, anti-classification rules now dominate Equal Protection, Free Speech, ‘dormant’ Commerce Clause, and even Free Exercise jurisprudence. The Roberts Court celebrates them as “commonsense,” citing their …

Skin Reaction Diagnosis In Breast Radiotherapy, Rebecca Lynn Culcasi
Wayne State University Dissertations
Radiotherapy plays an essential role in post-operative management of breast cancer. Unfortunately, the doses required to eradicate malignant tissue also cause radiation-induced skin damage. The more severe effects often require treatment postponement or cessation, which can impact the probability of local control and lasting negative effects.Acute skin reactions are subjectively evaluated by the clinician according to NCI’s CTC or RTOG scoring systems. The criteria for acute radiation morbidity ranges from grade 1 to 4 for adverse advents. The onset of symptoms typically occurs approximately two weeks into treatment and is dose dependent. Given radiation-induced skin injury remains a dose limiting …
