Initial and impulsive conditions for initial value problems of systems of nonlinear impulsive Riemann–Liouville fractional differential equations are introduced. The case when the lower limit of the fractional derivative is changed at each time point of the impulses is studied. In the case studied, the solution has a singularity at the initial time and at any point of the impulses. This leads to the need to appropriately generalize the classical concept of Lipschitz stability. Two derivative types of Lyapunov functions are utilized in order to deduce sufficient conditions for the new stability concept. Three examples are provided for illustration purpose …

American society has been on a necessary trek towards social justice, mainly because of a history of institutional slavery, the systematic oppression of native peoples, and unnecessary gender bias. However, in the 21st century, social justice has not only become a rallying cry for socialism, but also a platform that has resulted in inequalities. In contrast, a Christian social justice model recognizes humanity as equal recipients of God’s grace in that “God is no respecter of persons” (Acts 10:34, NIV). Introduction: Interpretations of patient-reported outcome measures following knee arthroplasty lack context and typically do not account for costs, risks and benefits compared to an alternative treatment. The primary purpose of our paper is to estimate expectations patients have for pain and function destination outcome, six-months following surgery relative to the outcome expected if knee arthroplasty was not done. Secondary purposes were to determine if statistically significant changes in the smallest worthwhile six-month outcome occurred following an interactive discussion and to assess the construct validity of the expected six-month outcome obtained at baseline.

Geospatial information systems (GIS) enable easy visualization of geospatial data representing different criteria important for optimal siting of marine energy projects. Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) is a geospatial analysis method that facilitates the evaluation of multiple, usually overlapping, site criteria. While GIS-based MCDA has been used extensively for land-based renewable energy projects, limited research exists on its application to marine-based renewable energy projects. Similarly, most literature overlooks the integration of social or environmental justice data. In the United States, social class comprises economic, social, and cultural capital but is more commonly associated with economic capital (wealth). In higher education, social class is more visible to first-generation students because they come from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. For first-generation students, education is a ladder to a higher social class. However, research shows that it is challenging for first-generation to achieve this in a dominant middle-class environment in college because of the shock of differences between themselves and their peers, resulting in feelings of not belonging in their campus environment. Studies of threats that bats face during hibernation have increased in response to white-nose syndrome (WNS), a fungal disease that has ravaged North American bat populations. However, impacts of WNS on bat ecology during spring emergence, when bats are potentially recovering from infection and allocating resources for reproduction, is relatively understudied. As more bat species become listed at the federal and state level, the need to understand the factors associated with spring emergence is critical for improving conservation guidelines and habitat management practices. Colic, characterized by excessive, inconsolable crying in early infancy, has long puzzled researchers and clinicians. Traditional approaches have predominantly relied on medical models, yet they have failed to provide satisfactory explanations or effective treatments. This blinded comparative qualitative study took a novel approach by asking: What are the womb and birth experiences of colicky babies in relation to the prenatal relational trauma between mother and fetus or within the fetal environment? The sample comprised 23 mother-child dyads, 10 children with a history of colic and 13 without, whose histories and interactions unfolded through 10 videotaped sessions of Experiential Play Therapy. …

This study aimed at finding out the relationship between social aversion and bullying and the social and psychological adjustment of a sample of university students who were infected or recovered from corona virus. Three measures were developed by the researcher (a. social aversion measure, b. bullying behavior measure and c. the social and psychological adjustment measure). These measures were administered to a sample of (210) students (101 infected and 109 recovered). Results showed significant positive correlation between social aversion and social and psychological adjustment of both the infected and the recovered students. This paper introduces a new generalization of the Lindley distribution introduced by [1], using the basic idea of [2] and along the lines of [3]. The new distribution is a compound of the Lindley and logarithmic distributions. We refer to the new model as the logarithmic-Lindley (Log-L) distribution. This model is capable of modeling various shapes of aging and failure criteria. The properties of the Log-L model are discussed, and the maximum likelihood estimation method is used to evaluate the parameters involved. Background: In children, digital media, lifestyle, and the COVID pandemic have impacted sunlight exposure, exercise, and diet patterns - cues that entrain the circadian clock. We hypothesized that low morning cortisol reflects a weak circadian clock, impacting the pro-inflammatory state. The primary objective was to test relationships between diurnal cortisol fluctuations and the inflammatory state in children as a means of providing indirect support for this hypothesis. Methods: The Cardiovascular Health Intervention Program (CHIP) was a population-based cross-sectional and longitudinal study of circadian health in public elementary school children in Southern Maine, USA (recruitment period 2012–2017). Abstract

The aim of this study was to measure pollinator abundance and diversity across Virginia Commonwealth University’s Monroe Park Campus in Richmond, Virginia, especially focusing on the impact of campus plantings on pollinators.

Methods

18 transects across VCU’s Monroe Park Campus, as well as 2 at the nearby Amelia Street School native meadow planting, were established and stratified by planting composition (native/invasive) and species diversity. Each transect was inventoried every other week for pollinators from April through July of 2023. Nonparametric and median-based linear models were used to test differences in pollinator abundance and morphospecies diversity across planting types.

Developmental disabilities, such as cognitive delays or autism, are often associated with challenges in verbal communication. These challenges can limit a student’s ability to engage and demonstrate understanding in academic settings. Identifying alternative forms of expression, such as manual sign language, can be crucial in promoting learning within special education environments. This paper explores research on the physical and mental skills involved in using manual sign language for communication, examines interventions that use sign language to enhance understanding and basic communication, and discusses the potential for generalizing sign language as a tool in academic and societal contexts.

The purpose of this article is to describe and analyze the psychometric properties of the Learning Orientation Questionnaire (LOQ), which have not been previously published. Psychometric validation involves the accumulation of proper empirical evidence to confirm measurement of the intended construct, and to justify the intended uses of the scales. LOQ is based upon the intentional learning theory, which is a comprehensive, holistic learning theory.
