In the tropics, grasslands or grazing lands are found where the forest vegetation climax has been subjected to fire, grazing, felling, or other disturbances. Grazing lands in the tropics form various ecosystems under the major climatic types. Delineation of such ecosystems is possible through remnants of the climax vegetation of undisturbed or least-disturbed areas. Several subecosystems exist as seral stages under each ecosystem, the floristic composition of which is a reflection of the edaphic and soil­moisture-fertility conditions. This article reviews an evaluative case study of implementation of a six-session virtual book club on connection, attachment, and Black joy in women who identify as Black and African American. This study examines how graduate students' perceptions of transdisciplinary team science evolve as they progress through a graduate training program at a university. Students participated in a series of workshops that built on and reinforced various aspects of training in transdisciplinary team science, including Team Science, Science Communication, Stakeholder Engagement, and International Case Studies in Antibiotic Resistance Monitoring. This paper analyzes how the Utah PTD applies to the non- navigable tributaries that affect the GSL, and whether Utah must consider the PTD in water rights management. Section I explains the GSL case, outlining the issues, the Physicians’ claims, and Judge Scott’s order. Section II outlines the PTD in Utah. Section III first compares the GSL to other decisions applying the PTD to non-navigable water resources and water rights. The objective of this research was to relate the form of the map turtle feeding apparatus to its function and digestive physiology. Female map turtles (Genus Graptemys) exhibit pronounced differences in their head shapes and prey bases in the wild. I measured voluntary bite force in megacephalic Pearl River map turtles (G. pearlensis) and microcephalic Sabine map turtles (G. sabinensis) along with a suite of morphological characteristics. I found that many morphological characteristics are good predictors of bite performance in both megacephalic and microcephalic map turtles, and that the commonly used metric of head width noted in other studies of …

This thesis explores the relation between two dimensions of parental bonding—care and overprotection—and four aspects of sexual self-concept including sexual agency, desire, anxiety, and satisfaction in college students. We also explored the use of a relatively novel measure of sexual self-concept, the MSSCQ-SF. 292 college students completed measures regarding parental bonding, sexual self-concept, and various demographic questions. Results partially supported our hypotheses, with parental care and overprotection being correlated with sexual anxiety and satisfaction but not desire or agency. Further, parental overprotection was positively correlated with sexual anxiety above and beyond the demographic variables assessed. These findings suggest that parental …

This article explores how gender-diverse managers in U.S. libraries and museums experience leadership and perceive gender to influence leadership. In-depth interviews were conducted with five gender-diverse managers. Data were analyzed with inductive, semantic thematic analysis and a complementary, deductive analysis using Wharton’s multilevel gender framework. Participants described relational, pragmatic, point-person leadership—connecting and supporting people, coordinating work, and translating between units—while expressing ambivalence about formal and hierarchical roles. Most did not initially link leadership to gender; when prompted, they articulated gender’s influence at individual, interactional, and institutional levels. Evidence comparing MSD risk between formal and informal workers remains limited, particularly in developing countries. This study examined the association between individual and job-related factors with MSD symptoms among formal and informal workers in Indonesia. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 1,089 workers in North Sumatra Province, Indonesia, from August 2024 to December 2025. Herein, silica nanoparticles (SNs) with different functional groups (propyl amine, propyl thiol, propyl carboxylic acid and unmodified hydroxyl) were loaded with the anticancer agent lomustine (LMS) and conjugated with Folic Acid (FA) to produce FA-NH2-SNs, FA-SH-SNs, FA-COOH-SNs, and FA-OH-SNs, respectively. The nanoparticles (NPs) were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS). Encapsulation Efficiency (EE) and drug release rate were measured using UV Spectrophotometer. The in vitro cytotoxicity toward HeLa and VERO cells was assessed using MTT assay. In this study, a novel analytical reagent based on arsenazo III immobilized on a polymer matrix composed of polyacrylonitrile, polyethylene polyamine, and dichloroethane (PPD) was developed and applied for the spectrophotometric determination of Pb(II) ions. The proposed method demonstrated standard analytical and metrological characteristics for the highly accurate determination of Pb(II) ions, as evidenced by a relative standard deviation (Sr) of 0.06 and a minimum detectable concentration (Cmin) of 0.24 μ g/L. The use of persistent plastic in food packaging continues to raise practical and environmental concerns, prompting interest in biodegradable alternatives derived from biomass. In this work, cellulose derived from coconut dregs was used as a film-forming material. The cellulose was isolated using a combination of chemical and ultrasonic treatments, followed by grafting with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA). Citronella oil (CitO) was incorporated at different loadings to produce GraftCell/CitO0.15, GraftCell/CitO0.6, and GraftCell/CitO1.2 films. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) analysis confirmed grafting, while structural changes were reflected in an increase in the crystallinity index from 10.55% to 16.04%. This study has assessed the novel technology developed for our in-house NAG-5SX1-1D-SSP analyzer by utilizing the established reaction of the zinc (II) ion with ammonium thiocyanate and mercury (II) chloride to produce a white precipitate. This analyzer was used to access turbidity by calculating the reflection of incident light. The method maintains linear behavior over a concentration range from 0.05 to 18 mmol. L–1, with a detection limit of 0. 489μg.sample–1 and excellent precision (RSD% >1). This study examined the moderating role of perceived social support on the relationship between resilience and depression among individuals diagnosed with COPD in South Tangerang, Indonesia. Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus (VRE) are major contributors to healthcare-associated infection, yet data from primary care clinics remain limited. This study assessed environmental contamination in eight clinics in the Klang Valley, Malaysia, and evaluated associated environmental factors. Samples were collected from environmental surfaces and equipment in Medical Officer and Patient Treatment Rooms, then cultured and tested for antimicrobial susceptibility. Environmental parameters, including temperature, relative humidity, air movement, and room density, were measured. Background: Immunosuppressive drugs (ISDs) are essential for preventing organ rejection but have been reported to increase cancer risk with prolonged use. This study compares cancer risk between ISDs used for long-term maintenance after transplantation (T-ISDs) and those prescribed for non-transplant chronic conditions including cell-mediated (C-ISDs) and receptor-mediated (R-ISDs) ISDs. We hypothesized that cancer risk would differ between T-ISDs and both C-ISD and R-ISD groups. Understanding predator-prey interactions offers insight into ecological dynamics and the selective pressures shaping traits that drive adaptive strategies. Aposematism is a well-established defense mechanism that combines conspicuous coloration with unpalatable chemical deterrents. This strategy is particularly effective against visually oriented avian predators, yet less is known about arthropods and mammals, which rely on other sensory cues. Environmental toxicant exposures can induce widespread alterations in both the transcriptome and epigenome of mammals, and directly contribute to the increased risk of various diseases, including cardiovascular disorders, cancer, and neurological disorders. In 1792, pioneering English feminist Mary Wollstonecraft published “A Vindication of the Rights of Woman,” arguing that women’s rights could only advance if women moved into the male-dominated public sphere, leaving behind household-centered education, traditional marriage structures, and the nuclear family dynamic. In 1818, Wollstonecraft’s daughter Mary Shelley published “Frankenstein,” in which she explored and critiqued women’s permanent and unacknowledged status as caretakers within their households. Seed beetles (Callosobruchus maculatus) are a pest of stored leguminous grains that can dramatically decrease yields. Management strategies to control infestations of C. maculatus are important for economic and food security. Radiation exposure is one possible management strategy that has shown promise. In two separate course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs), we tested how exposure to UV-C light affects C. maculatus fecundity, survival, and performance. Callosobruchus maculatus individuals were exposed to UV-C at two different life-stages: parent and egg exposure during oviposition and larval exposure during development. This thesis investigates the best-fit empirical distribution for daily U.S. corn and soybean futures price changes and examines how distributional choices affect Value-at-Risk (VaR) and Expected Shortfall (ES) estimates. The dataset comprises daily nearby futures prices for corn (11/16/1994–04/23/2025) and soybeans (10/16/1979–02/15/2023), yielding 7,626 and 10,853 observations, respectively. An ARCH-LM test confirms the presence of Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (ARCH). Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (GARCH) models were estimated, and to account for potential asymmetric effects, an EGARCH model was used. Bilateral transtibial amputation presents a complex biomechanical condition in which the loss of biological ankle function and reduced sensory feedback can compromise walking stability. This case study aimed to experimentally evaluate gait stability in a bilateral transtibial prosthesis user under controlled sensory and mechanical walking conditions using a portable G-Walk inertial measurement system. The novelty of this study lies in the use of a structured three-factor experimental protocol that systematically combined visual input, arm posture, and surface type across twelve walking conditions to assess walk quality, propulsion, propulsion symmetry, and pelvic symmetry indices. A new species, Compsobuthus hadeki sp. n. from Iraq is described and fully complemented with color photographs and compared with morphologically the most similar species, C. matthiesseni (Birula, 1905). The two species can be unequivocally separated by the following morphological features: in C. hadeki sp. n., movable finger of pedipalp bears 9 rows of granules; telson with aculeus shorter than vesicle, and metasoma III with 10 carinae. Cytogenetic analysis was performed, revealing a diploid chromosome count of 22 in C. hadeki sp. n.

Mediterranean types of perennial grasses are winter-growing and summer-dormant, while central and northern European types arc winter-dormant and aummer•growing. Dormancy severely limits the annual production and largely determines the seasonal distribution pattern of the perennial grass. Summer dormancy wa• studied in 81 Italian populations of Dac!)llit glomtTata. L. collected from north (48°N) to south (38°N) on the Italian pt:ninaula. Dormancy was measured at Perugia (43°O5'N) on 60 plant.'i for each population. The percentage of summer-dormant plants was negatively correlated with the mean score for summer growth (r = -0.75**).
