The objective of this study is to redescribe four marine fouling species on Al Dhahab Island in front of Miyami Beach, Alexandria, that are associated with the pearl oyster Pinctada radiata (Leach, 1814). During June 2021, eighteen shells of P. radiata oysters were collected by scuba diving. Analyzed fouling communities revealed that a total of 106 taxa were associated with the studied shells, among these two polychaetes (Lepidonotus carinulatus and Eurysyllis tuberculata), one bivalve (Septifer cumingii), and one isopod (Munna sp.) were recorded. Via observational data from the Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods collected between 1994 and 2001, this study examined the degree to which neighborhood disorder, collective efficacy, and youth-centered institutional resources are directly associated with adolescents' depressive symptoms across time, and the mediating role of adolescents'neighborhood self-efficacy. Latent variable structural equation models were estimated among an unweighted representative sample of 1448 adolescents (59% male, mean age 15.19), across 79 neighborhoods in Chicago, to examine the direct effects of neighborhood disorder, collective efficacy, and availability of youth-centered resources at baseline (measured at timepoint 1; reported by an independent sample of …

Millions of Americans live in hospital deserts—communities where people lack geographic access to hospitals and primary care physicians. People living in these deserts often miss doctor appointments, delay necessary care, and stop adhering to their treatment. In this way, hospital deserts exacerbate the health disparities plaguing America. This Article demonstrates that hospital deserts are not inevitable but the result of several business strategies—including noncompete agreements and merging with competitors—and antitrust enforcers’ unwillingness to recognize these harmful practices as antitrust violations. Background: To extend the practicality of liquid biopsy beyond the historical HPV circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) assays, we evaluated the clinical relevance of a novel next-generation sequencing HPV ctDNA assay in patients with locally advanced and metastatic squamous cell cancer of the anal canal (mSCCA).

Methods: ctDNA isolated from the plasma of patients with mSCCA was sequenced using a 1.4 Mb hybrid-capture target-enrichment panel covering the whole genome sequences of all 193 HPV types. The HPV type, copy number (CN), and integration sites were determined using a bioinformatic pipeline.

Nuclear receptor binding set domain protein 2 (NSD2) plays a key role in chromatin regulation and is associated with different cancers and other developmental problems. Berries are rich in major secondary metabolites with anticancer properties. Here, we virtually screened 145 berry phytochemicals as putative NSD2 inhibitors via structure-based virtual screening, molecular docking, MD simulations, and DFT and ADMET analyses. Among them, α-carotene had the maximum docking score of -9.9 kcal/mol, followed by sulfuretin and β-amyrin. Professional, manual curation of knowledgebases, however, is labour-intensive and thus high-performing machine learning (ML) methods that improve biocuration efficiency are needed. Here, we report on sentence-level classification to identify biocuration-relevant sentences in the full text of published references for two gene function data types: gene expression and protein kinase activity. Prediction-powered inference (PPI) [1] and its subsequent development called PPI++ [2] provide a novel approach to standard statistical estimation leveraging machine learning systems to enhance unlabeled data with predictions. We use this paradigm in clinical trials. The predictions are provided by disease progression models, providing prognostic scores for all the participants as a function of baseline covariates. The proposed method would empower clinical trials by providing untreated digital twins of the treated patients while remaining statistically valid. We developed ligandomics for the in vivo profiling of vascular ligands in mice, discovering secretogranin III (Scg3) as a novel angiogenic factor that selectively binds to retinal vessels of diabetic but not healthy mice. This discovery led to the development of anti-Scg3 therapy for ocular vasculopathies. However, in vivo ligandomics requires intracardial perfusion to remove unbound phage clones, limiting its use to vascular endothelial cells (ECs). As the primary cause of coronary heart disease and acute coronary syndrome, CAD significantly impacts global health. Recent genetic studies have demonstrated CAD's polygenic and multifactorial nature, providing molecular insights for early diagnosis and risk assessment. While much of the prior work examining the behavioural and neural mechanisms of adolescent risk taking has focused on community samples, less is known about whether these mechanisms apply to adolescents engaging in high levels of risky behaviour. The current study examines behavioural and neural differences between adolescents with (N = 24) and without (N = 35) a history of misconduct using a risk perception questionnaire and risk-taking fMRI task.
