Purpose: Clinical adoption of NK cell immunotherapy is underway for medulloblastoma and osteosarcoma, however there is currently little feedback on cell fate after administration. We propose magnetic particle imaging (MPI) may have applications for the quantitative detection of NK cells.

Procedures: Human-derived NK-92 cells were labeled by co-incubation with iron oxide nanoparticles (VivoTrax™) for 24 h then excess nanoparticles were washed with centrifugation. Cytolytic activity of labeled versus unlabeled NK-92 cells was assessed after 4 h of co-incubation with medulloblastoma cells (DAOY) or osteosarcoma cells (LM7 or OS17). Cerebral accumulation of alpha-synuclein (αSyn) aggregates is the hallmark event in a group of neurodegenerative diseases-collectively called synucleinopathies-which include Parkinson's disease, dementia with Lewy bodies and multiple system atrophy. Currently, these are diagnosed by their clinical symptoms and definitively confirmed postmortem by the presence of αSyn deposits in the brain. Here, we summarize the drawbacks of the current clinical definition of synucleinopathies and outline the rationale for moving toward an earlier, biology-anchored definition of these disorders, with or without the presence of clinical symptoms. Peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) is a heterogeneous category, and many cases are unclassifiable and designated as PTCL-not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS). Gene expression profiling (GEP) has delineated two prognostic subtypes within PTCL-NOS, PTCL-TBX21, and PTCL-GATA3, characterized by distinctive transcriptomes and a different prognosis. To further evaluate the pathologic features of these subgroups, 101 PTCL cases that did not meet specific criteria for well-defined T-cell lymphoma entities underwent detailed pathologic, immunophenotypic (including TFH biomarkers) and GEP analyses, separating them into PTCL-NOS (n=63) and PTCL-TFH (a.k.a. nodal PTCL-TFH, NOS, and TFH lymphoma, NOS) (n=38). Background: Most extremely preterm (EP) infants are vitamin D deficient (serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels below 20 ng/mL), and optimal supplementation practices for EP infants remain unknown. Our objective is to assess current vitamin D supplementation practices in U.S. neonatal intensive care units (NICU) for EP infants to provide baseline information for the design of future clinical trials.

Methods: We conducted an online survey to study vitamin D intake and supplementation practices in U.S. NICUs caring for EP infants. Descriptive statistics compared responses by affiliation and level of care.

Background and purpose: FLASH or ultra-high dose rate (UHDR) radiation therapy (RT) has gained attention in recent years for its ability to spare normal tissues relative to conventional dose rate (CDR) RT in various preclinical trials. However, clinical implementation of this promising treatment option has been limited because of the lack of availability of accelerators capable of delivering UHDR RT. Addictive products kill more than 700,000 people in the United States every year. Despite the large-scale risks that addiction poses, the law requires manufacturers of addictive products to disclose little-to-no information about the risk of addiction—the single most consequential characteristic of a class of products contributing to mass death every year.

While consumers understand that addictive products are, in fact, addictive, they generally do not understand the magnitude of the addiction risks that they face. This Article tracks how abolitionist and reformist debates are unfolding within urban schools’ attempts to smash the school-to-prison pipeline. We document how Chicago-area public school teachers are grappling with new restorative justice programs and their complex and divergent sociopolitical and institutional meanings. Drawing on over forty qualitative interviews with teachers, we illustrate how difficult widespread implementation of new conflict resolution mechanisms, in the name of restorative justice, are turning out to be. On April 7, 2023, a federal judge issued a nationwide stay on the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of the abortifacient medication mifepristone. It was instantly a landmark case, decried as the first time in over one-hundred years that a federal court nullified an FDA drug approval. A few hours later, a second federal district court enjoined FDA restrictions on mifepristone. Two federal courts substantively evaluating FDA drug approval data in one day is unprecedented. It begs the question: will courts overturn FDA drug approvals again?

The enhancement of predictive accuracy of the first-order integer autoregressive (INAR 1) model is the focus of the study through the effective amalgam of machine learning techniques and classical statistics. INAR (1) model structures are key elements for the prediction of nonnegative integer-valued time series processes. Conventional estimation methods include Classical Least Squares (CLS), Conditional Maximum Likelihood (CML), and Yule-Walker (YW) as compared with advanced methods like Support Vector Regression (SVR) and Genetic Algorithms (GA). By identifying the most important predictors of depressive symptoms through the analysis, the findings can have important implications for early depression detection and intervention. I examine how the United States finances elder care, arguing that the legal processes structuring elder care tend to widen economic inequality and divide the interests of lower-income people against each other along generational, gendered, and racialized lines. I begin with two case narratives drawn from my practice experience as a poverty lawyer for older adults. One narrative involves an elder homeowner, while the other involves an elder renter. Both face crises of unmet care needs, the threat of homelessness, and ultimately the outcome that many older people dread most: institutionalization in a nursing home. I use these narratives as …

Understanding animal emotional (affective) state is highly relevant to various disciplines (e.g., animal welfare, neuroscience, comparative psychology), and has been significantly advanced by translating affect-induced cognitive bias paradigms rooted in human psychology to non-human animal studies. Attention bias (i.e., preferential attention allocation, AB) tests are increasingly used as more practical substitutes to commonly used judgement bias tests. Yet, evidence that AB reflects affective valence in animals is still limited. We review in-depth the concept of attention and AB described in humans and discuss utilising human-derived AB paradigms for measuring animal affective states.
