Postpartum depression (PPD) and anxiety are significant concerns for mothers with infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs); yet the role of parity in shaping these experiences remains underexplored. This cross-sectional secondary analysis examined data from 82 NICU mothers (62 adults, 20 adolescents) using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale and anxiety subscale. Findings revealed that primiparas and adolescents exhibited higher depression scores and multiparas and adolescents were more likely to experience anxiety symptoms. Parity, however, was not found to be a significant factor capable of predicting PPD or anxiety but results highlight the importance of early screening, personalized mental health …

Transgenerational plasticity refers to heritable, non-genetic changes in phenotype that persist across multiple generations and can enhance offspring survivability in variable environments. In Daphnia, increasing maternal age has been associated with maladaptive plasticity. To investigate this relationship, six clones were collected from two Wisconsin lakes and acclimated to laboratory conditions through a common garden rearing process. For each clone, ten replicates were generated and evenly divided between young (clutches 2–4) and old (clutches 5–8) maternal age groups. In eukaryotes, the structure and function of the Sm core and its associated small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs) play a significant role in pre-mRNA splicing. These snRNPs exhibit a high degree of conservation. While plants also utilize alternative splicing, the conservation of plant snRNAs and other non-coding RNA such as snoRNA and scaRNA, which assemble the Sm core, remains largely unexplored. A big fraction of most eukaryotic genomes is comprised of transposable elements (TEs). TEs are mobile genetic sequences often causing deleterious effects as they increase in copy number. On rare occasions, TEs can undergo molecular domestication, where the TE proteins are co-opted by the host to serve cellular functions. In Drosophila melanogaster, domestication from PIF/Harbinger TEs has resulted in five Drosophila PIF-Like Genes (DPLG1-4 and 8). This study focuses on investigating the function of DPLG3. Fluency disorders, including stuttering and cluttering, disrupt one’s natural rate of speech and can cause implications for one’s emotional well-being. This study explores the relationship between language factors and stuttered events in preschool-age children by analyzing a spontaneous language sample using two transcription software programs, CLAN and SALT. A language sample was collected from a child enrolled in a local Head Start program and was transcribed and analyzed using the software programs. Neo-XX/XY sex chromosome systems can evolve from an XX/X0 sex chromosome system via fusion events between the X chromosome and an autosome. Although cytological work has indicated the presence of a neo-XX/XY system within A.exaltatus, the chromosomal identity of the fused autosome and the molecular drivers behind this chromosomal fusion remain poorly understood. The disparity between females and males in the prevalence of these disorders becomes more pronounced from adolescence onwards. Activity-Based Protein Profiling (ABPP) is a method that identifies enzyme activity by targeting key catalytic residues. This study focused on histidine, a residue involved in enzymatic catalysis, metal coordination, and protein-protein interactions. Despite its importance, histidine-specific chemical probes are limited due to its variable reactivity. This work developed and characterized a histidine-specific probe using a pyrocarbonate-based mechanism. Singleresidue assays confirmed selective reactivity of the probe with histidine over other nucleophilic amino acids. INTRODUCTION: Targeted therapies and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized the management of metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) over the past decade.

METHODS: This single-center observational study was conducted to describe programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) testing, choice of therapy, and outcomes for adult patients with stage IV NSCLC initiating first-line therapy from 2017 through 2020, with follow-up through June 2021. Patient characteristics and study assessments were described according to four histomolecular subtypes, defined by histologic characteristics and availability of standard-of-care therapies for molecular subgroups at the time of study conduct.

BACKGROUND: Intermittent fasting (IF) has been linked to improved metabolic health, reduced inflammation, and increased longevity in animal models. These effects are thought to be mediated through changes in the gut microbiome. Murine studies consistently show that IF enhances microbial diversity and promotes beneficial species like Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, improving metabolic profiles and gut barrier function. However, human studies reveal inconsistent results, suggesting that individual-level factors such as baseline microbiome composition and fiber intake may influence response to IF.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is the most common leukemia in adult patients, with a 5-year survival rate of less than 30 percent. Therefore, more effective therapeutic strategies are required to prolong the survival of AML patients. Importantly, anti-apoptotic proteins, especially B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2), overexpression in AML is associated with uncontrolled growth as well as chemoresistance.
