There is limited evidence-based research on required competency, training, assessment, and treatment practices for psychologists who treat transgender and non-conforming (TGNC) youth with gender dysphoria. Eleven licensed psychologists with at least 5 years of experience treating TGNC youth were recruited through social media and snowball recruiting to participate in this qualitative Delphi study. Using multicultural competency theory as a guide, these experts were asked to develop a consensus regarding the minimum competencies and training to treat TGNC youth, as well as what they thought the standards should be for assessment and treatment. Traditional batterer intervention programs often prioritize male-perpetrator-female-victim models, thereby overlooking diverse relationship contexts and marginalized populations. Understanding participants’ experiences is essential for researchers, policymakers, counselor educators, and practitioners to develop alternatives to one-size-fits-all gender- specific strategies, which aligns with the call for more robust evidence-based practices. The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenological qualitative study, guided by van Manen’s framework, was to explore the lived experiences of low-risk, low-need participants who completed a gender-neutral and inclusive domestic and intimate partner violence intervention program. 3',5'-cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) is a fundamental secondary messenger capable of rapidly amplifying and propagating cellular signals in response to various extracellular stimuli. cAMP plays a significant role in hormone-mediated regulation of renal fluid and electrolyte balance. Impaired signaling of cAMP has been linked to a variety of pathological ramifications in the kidneys. This qualitative case study examined the role of behavioral health leadership (BHL) in facilitating effective family reunification within residential treatment settings, focusing on Organization X in Northern California. The study addressed the persistent issue of high recidivism rates among youth with intellectual and co-occurring mental health disorders following discharge from therapeutic foster care. Using the Baldrige Excellence Framework as a guiding model, the research explored how BHLs assess reunification success, engage families, and navigate systemic and individual challenges that hinder sustainable transitions to home environments. FAN1 is a DNA dependent nuclease whose proper function is essential for maintaining human health. For example, a genetic variant in FAN1, Arg507 to His hastens onset of Huntington's disease, a repeat expansion disorder for which there is no cure. How the Arg507His mutation affects FAN1 structure and enzymatic function is unknown. Using cryo-EM and biochemistry, we have discovered that FAN1 arginine 507 is critical for its interaction with PCNA, and mutation of Arg507 to His attenuates assembly of the FAN1-PCNA complex on a disease-relevant extrahelical DNA extrusions formed within DNA repeats. This mutation concomitantly abolishes PCNA-FAN1-dependent cleavage of such …

Candida is one of the most frequent causes of bloodstream infections, and our first line of defense against these invasive infections is the innate immune system. The early immune response is critical in controlling Candida albicans infection, but C. albicans has several strategies to evade host immune attack. Phagocytosis of C. albicans blocks hyphal growth, limiting host damage and virulence, but how C. albicans limits early recruitment and phagocytosis in vertebrate infection is poorly understood. Among the various therapeutic strategies available, cancer immunotherapy-encompassing adoptive cell transfer (ACT) and immune checkpoint blockade therapy-has emerged as a particularly promising approach following surgical resection, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and molecular targeted therapies. This form of treatment elicits substantial antigen-specific immune responses, enhances or restores anti-tumor immunity, thereby facilitating the control and destruction of tumor cells, and yielding durable responses across a range of cancers, which can lead to the eradication of tumor lesions and the prevention of recurrence. One of the most important problems associated with oil production is the formation of stable (water-in-oil) emulsions, and these emulsions greatly affect the process of treating the oil and ridding it of water.The creation of these emulsions throughout the oil production process is an expensive state, and the low water level of crude oil emulsions enhances performance while lowering the risk of equipment and pipeline deterioration. Human population growth and climate change are stressors that continue to put pressure on current agricultural production systems. Cover crops (CC) as a means to improve soil health remain widely underused, particularly in the Lower Mississippi River Valley. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of CC on the change over time in near-surface bulk density, aggregate stability, total infiltration and steady-state infiltration rate, and nematode populations in eastern Arkansas. Averaged across depth, bulk density did not change over time under a no cover crop (NCC) treatment, but increased approximately 0.03 g cm-3 over time under CC. …

Aerogels have garnered significant attention from the scientific community due to their extraordinary properties, including low density, high porosity, low thermal conductivity, and large surface area. These properties make them interesting candidates for diverse applications such as thermal insulation, drug delivery, catalysis, fillers, tissue engineering, and biosensors. However, the production of conventional aerogels is often constrained by environmental issues, the high cost of raw materials, and energy-intensive fabrication methods. The surge in commercial and civilian spaceflight enables the systematic and longitudinal, large-scale biospecimen collection to understand the prospective effects of space travel on human health. The Genomics and Space Medicine (Space Omics) project at BCM-HGSC involves a comprehensive biospecimen collection plan from commercial/private space flight participants. The manuscript addresses the critical gaps in the biospecimen collection process including details of the informed consent process, a provision for subjects to obtain custom CLIA-WGS reports, a data dictionary and a LIMS enabled biobank. Recently discovered constituents of the brain waves—the oscillons—provide a high-resolution representation of the extracellular field dynamics. Here, we study the most robust, highest-amplitude oscillons recorded in actively behaving male rats, which underlie the traditional θ-waves. The resemblances between θ-oscillons and the conventional θ-waves are manifested primarily at the ballpark level—mean frequencies, mean amplitudes, and bandwidths. In addition, both hippocampal and cortical oscillons exhibit a number of intricate, behavior-attuned, transient properties that suggest a new vantage point for understanding the θ-rhythms’ structure, origins and functions. The effectiveness of immunotherapy and targeted therapy has been well established in metastatic renal cell cancer (mRCC). These therapies demonstrated higher overall response rates and led to prolonged survival. In contrast, in localized RCC, conventional treatment is either partial or complete nephrectomy. While surgery is a curative option in early stages, high recurrence rates remain a concern, with survival rates ranging from 53% to 85%, depending on the initial stage at the time of diagnosis. Allele-specific expression (ASE) is pivotal in understanding the genetic underpinnings of phenotypic variation within species, differences in disease susceptibility, and responses to environmental factors. We processed 11 different tissue types collected from 12 age-matched healthy olive baboons (Papio anubis) for genome-wide ASE analysis. By sequencing their genomes at a minimum depth of 30×, we identified over 16 million single-nucleotide variants (SNVs). We also generated long-read sequencing data, enabling the phasing of all variants present within the coding regions of 96.5% of assayable protein-coding genes as a single haplotype block. Learning communities (LCs) are a designated high-impact practice (HIP) defined as "a group of people who share common academic goals and attitudes and meet semi-regularly to collaborate on classwork" – a shared goal unites members. BACKGROUND: Spirometry is a widely used pulmonary function test that assesses lung function by examining airflow and capacity. Spirometry measurements assist in the diagnosis, severity classification, and management of asthma, and can affect one’s eligibility into various events (e.g., clinical trials, high-risk jobs, sports). Reference equations are used to establish predicted values to account for biological variables such as age, sex, and height; however past clinical guidelines recommended utilizing race-correction. Enhancing Students’ Academic Success Through Reflective Writing In An Undergraduate Flipped Course, Grace Onodipe, Darryl Romanow, Michelle M. Robbins

International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning

Prior research has posited that flipped classrooms facilitate students’ self-directed learning and enhance grades. Although reflective writing is one method linked to academic success, it rarely has been examined empirically in the literature within the context of flipped classrooms. The current study investigated the association between growth mindset-inspired reflective writing, self-regulated learning assessments, and academic performance in a fully flipped Introduction to Economics course. Regression analyses found that reflective writing effort and targeted self-directed learning scores were associated with higher grades on course assessments. These findings suggest that reflective writing that incorporates growth-mindset messaging should be encouraged in flipped classrooms.

Labs that incorporate a course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE) increase student gains in discovery, ownership, and scientific identity. One barrier for faculty developing CURE courses is finding support for the scientific and pedagogical methods necessary for offering a CURE. The Malate Dehydrogenase (MDH) CUREs Community (MCC) was created as part of an NSF-IUSE grant to fill a need for protein-based CUREs. To evaluate the role of the MCC in development and teaching of CUREs, a survey was submitted to MCC faculty. The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans supports sitting less and moving more. Growing evidence suggests that a waking behavior profile with less sedentary behavior and more light-intensity physical activity is associated with more favorable cardiovascular health. Remarkably, little is known about how these behaviors relate to cardiovascular health during pregnancy. With the pressing global challenge of climate change, the potential to breed cattle that produce less lifetime methane offers a transformative solution that is both sustainable and impactful. The objective of this study was to determine the genetic correlations between enteric methane emissions and economically important traits included in the current Terminal Index used to breed animals for meat in Ireland.
