This study investigates the implementation of sustainable human resource management (HRM) practices and their influence on employee commitment within public agencies in Enugu City, Nigeria. Anchored primarily in Social Exchange Theory (SET), the research explores how specific HRM practices—recruitment, training, rewards, and career management—affect affective, continuance, and normative commitment among customer relations employees. Employing a concurrent mixed-methods design, the study gathered quantitative data via structured questionnaires from 300 employees across five public institutions and qualitative insights through semi-structured interviews with 15 employees. The glycerol-3-phosphate (G-3-P) pathway is central to the synthesis of triacylglycerols (TAGs) and glycerophospholipids, essential for membrane biogenesis and lipid storage. The first and rate-limiting step in this pathway is catalyzed by glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferases (GPATs), with microsomal GPAT3 and GPAT4 being evolutionarily conserved and predominant in most tissues. While previous studies have implicated Calcineurin B homologous protein 1 (CHP1) as a cofactor for GPAT4, the broader role of CHP1 in regulating microsomal GPATs and TAG biosynthesis remains unclear. The MAPK pathway can drive resistance in highly aggressive breast cancers. Our previous work showed that the MEK inhibitor (MEKi) AZD6244 (selumetinib) prevented lung metastasis in a breast cancer xenograft model. In clinical studies, MEKis as single agents have had only modest activity against solid tumors due to the onset of resistance. Using synthetic lethality siRNA screening, we identified myeloid cell leukemia-1 (MCL-1) as a potential contributor to AZD6244 resistance. We hypothesized that MCL-1 promotes MEKi resistance in highly aggressive breast cancers and that MCL-1 inhibition overcomes AZD6244 resistance. The ubiquitous fungal pathogen Candida albicans has the potential to either asymptomatically colonize the gastrointestinal (GI) tract or become an invasive pathogen through mechanisms that remain incompletely understood. Here we explored the fungal, host, and environmental factors that influence the ability of C. albicans to colonize the mouse GI tract using a representative clinical strain, CLCA10. After a single gavage challenge (5 × 106 CFU C. albicans), specific pathogen-free (SPF) mice remained colonized with C. albicans strain CLCA10, but not other Candida species, for at least 58 days with the fungus confined largely to the gut luminal …

Inaddition, epigenetic influences result in metabolic changes inoffspring of people living with obesity leading to a greater chanceof them experiencing long-term health consequences. The ataxia telangiectasia and RAD3-related (ATR) kinase functions with ataxia telangiectasia-mutated (ATM) kinase as a modulator of DNA damage response (DDR). We assessed the antitumor effects of the ATR inhibitor elimusertib (BAY-1895344) in patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models with DDR alterations. Antitumor activity was assessed by change in tumor volume (TV) from baseline. Responses were categorized as follows: partial response (PR), ≥30% decrease in TV; ≥20% increase in TV, progressive disease; and non-PR/progressive disease, stable disease (SD). Event-free survival was defined as time for tumor doubling (EFS-2). Of 21 PDX models tested, 11 had significant prolongation of EFS-2 with elimusertib monotherapy. …

Importance: Adult loneliness has been linked to cognitive decline and dementia risk, but the long-term implications of childhood loneliness remain underexplored. Objectives: To investigate whether childhood loneliness is associated with cognitive decline and dementia risk and whether adult loneliness mediates or modifies these associations. Design, Setting, and Participants: This cohort study used data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, a nationally representative cohort study conducted between June 1, 2011, and December 31, 2018, with a maximum follow-up of 7 years. The outflow of 'dirty' brain fluids from the glymphatic system drains via the meningeal lymphatic vessels to the lymph nodes in the neck, primarily the deep cervical lymph nodes (dcLN). However, it is unclear whether dcLN drainage is essential for normal cerebral homeostasis. Using dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) and computational fluid dynamics, we studied the impact of long-term mechanical stress from compromised dcLN drainage on brain solute and fluid outflow in anesthetized rats. PURPOSE: Targeting tumor-associated macrophages through C-C chemokine receptor type 2 (CCR) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) improves the efficacy of chemotherapy and restores T-cell immunity in preclinical models.

PATIENTS AND METHODS: We conducted a phase I/II single-institution study (NCT03496662) combining chemotherapy gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel (GnP), CCR2/5 inhibitor BMS-813160, and nivolumab for four 28-day cycles for patients with borderline resectable (BR) or locally advanced (LA) PDAC. The recommended phase II dose of BMS-813160 was established in the 3 + 3 design. Primary endpoints were safety and objective response rate (ORR). This article advances a unified neuroaesthetic framework that integrates sensory regulation, narrative integration, and interpersonal synchronization as the core mechanisms of healing. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates pesticide use in the United States. The EPA is charged by the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) with ensuring that a pesticide will not cause unreasonable adverse effects on the environment. Incident reports (documentation of exposure and injury from pesticide applications) can serve as a reality check on the pesticide registration decisions made by the EPA scientists and risk managers. The EPA collects incident reports on human, domestic animal, and ecological injury. Each winter in Florida, thousands of manatees gather in the warm water outflows of power plants. These refuges play a crucial role for the Florida manatee: when ocean temperatures drop, manatees shelter at these artificial sources to survive. But in recent years, thousands of manatees wintering at the Florida Power & Light Company’s Cape Canaveral Clean Energy Center have died. The reason? Seagrass beds––a primary food source for manatees––are vanishing, killed off by pollution from agricultural, industrial, and residential sources.

Neurodivergent women with chronic musculoskeletal syndromes experience disproportionate premenopausal symptom burdens that are poorly characterized in extant clinical paradigms and practice. The compounded interplay of estrogen fluctuations in premenopause with sensory–executive differences and baseline nociception from joint or connective-tissue pathology yields intensified pain, mood dysregulation, and functional decline. Evidence indicates estrogen modulates nociception, neuroinflammation, bone remodeling, and monoaminergic signaling; premenopausal variability magnifies pain, affective lability, and cognitive drift—effects accentuated in autism and ADHD. Coexisting hypermobility, fibromyalgia, or connective-tissue disorders compromise joint integrity and proprioception, increasing susceptibility to estrogen-dependent changes in bone microarchitecture and tendon homeostasis. Hybridization is common among minnows and shiners in the family Leuciscidae, and mitonuclear discordance can reveal evidence of historical hybridization and introgression events that have shaped extant species and populations. We have identified a notable case of serial mitogenome replacement in populations of two shiner species, Luxilus zonatus and L. chrysocephalus, which are syntopic in drainages throughout the northern and eastern Ozark Interior Highlands of North America. These mitogenome replacement events involved L. zonatus acquiring the mitogenome of L. chrysocephalus, and populations of L. chrysocephalus acquiring the mitogenome of an allopatric congeneric species, L. cornutus.
