The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on rural American Indian/Alaska Native communities. During our multi-year study, in-depth interview data was collected in Indigenous communities from over 160 Tribal leaders and members in Alaska, New Mexico, Belize and Guatemala. In interviews, participants shared their lived experience during the pandemic, both negative impacts and factors of resilience. This article focuses on the methodology and theoretical framework of Community Capitals Framework (CCF). Using CCF, interview data was coded and analyzed using a modified CCF model. This thesis examines the Picuris/Peñasco Valley of Northern New Mexico as a unique case study for understanding Catholic unity amidst cultural plurality and historical tension. The study investigates how the confluence of Picuris Pueblo (Tiwa) Indigenous spirituality and Hispano/Spanish Colonial Catholic traditions has forged a profoundly localized and resilient faith community. Drawing upon historical analysis of colonial resistance, cultural anthropology, and theological reflection, this work argues that the concept of sacred land (sacred soil) functions as the central unifying principle. SUMMARY: Lack of data integration remains a significant impediment to cancer research, and many analyses still require customized software to transform and prepare cancer data. We describe a software package to harmonize genetic and clinical cancer data into the GA4GH Phenopacket schema, an ISO standard for representing clinical case data. We integrated demographic, mutation, morphology, diagnosis, intervention, and survival data using case data from the National Cancer Institute for 12 cancer types. The Phenopacket standard provides a foundation for downstream use, including sophisticated statistical and AI/ML analyses. MOTIVATION: Identifying promising therapeutic targets from thousands of genes in transcriptomic studies remains a major bottleneck in biomedical research. While large language models (LLMs) show potential for gene prioritization, they suffer from hallucination and lack systematic validation against expert knowledge.

RESULTS: The framework identified 609 sepsis-relevant genes with >94% filtering efficiency, demonstrating strong enrichment for inflammatory pathways including TNF-α signaling, complement activation, and interferon responses. Literature validation yielded 30 ultra-high confidence therapeutic candidates, including both established sepsis genes (IL10, TREM1, S100A9, NLRP3) and novel targets warranting investigation. Benchmark validation against expert-curated databases achieved 71.2% recall, with systematic correlation between computational …

Having a growth mindset is crucial to being successful in a mathematics classroom. However, many students believe themselves to be either “mathematics people” or “not mathematics people”. When students believe they are not a mathematics person, they are far less likely to engage in material where they face struggles, and thus they miss out on valuable learning. A review of the literature has show that students have been able to shift their mindset from fixed to growth through a series of interventions. Among different RNA methylations, N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most abundant in the brain and determines the fate of RNA through reversible processes using methyltransferases, demethylases, and methyl-binding proteins. The reversibility of m6A is an emerging regulatory mechanism for gene expression, regulating many aspects of RNA metabolism and influencing learning and memory processes. Histone post-translational modifications (PTMs) are crucial to eukaryotic genome regulation, with a range of reported functions and mechanisms of action. Though often studied individually, it has long been recognized that the modifications function by combinatorial synergy or antagonism. Interplay may involve PTMs on the same histone, within the same nucleosome (containing a histone octamer), or between nucleosomes in higher-order chromatin. Given this, the field must distinguish ever greater complexity, and the context in which it is studied, with brevity and precision. Background/objectives: Prenatal exposure to famine can lead to lasting health effects through changes in DNA methylation. This study aims to evaluate the impact of prenatal exposure to the Chinses Great Famine (1959-1961) on human epigenome and the subsequent influence on blood lipids.

Methods: We conducted an epigenome-wide association study (EWAS) of peripheral blood-based DNA methylation and prenatal exposure to the Chinese Great Famine as well as blood lipids among eight participants exposed to famine and eight sex-matched participants (born ≤ 3 years after the famine). Variations in Earth’s orbit pace global ice-volume/sea-level changes, but the variability in the response for different sectors of the Antarctic Ice Sheet (AIS) to orbitally-forced climate change remains unclear. We present geological records of iceberg-rafted debris (IBRD) and other proxies from locations adjacent to the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) and East Antarctic Ice Sheet (EAIS) spanning ~3.3-2.3 Ma. Iceberg calving events from the WAIS recorded in Ross Sea sediment cores show a linear response to orbital forcing at timescales corresponding to obliquity (40 kyr) and precession (23-19 kyr) modulated by eccentricity (100 kyr). Head and neck cancer treatment frequently results in long-term severe swallowing deficits, often requiring feeding tube dependency. Patients who have completed swallowing exercise programs before and during cancer treatment experienced more positive swallowing outcomes, but most patients are not referred for swallowing intervention early enough in their care to prevent long-term deficits. The Malayalam films Ennu Swantham Janakikutty and Njan Gandharvan reimagine figures from Kerala folklore, namely the Yakṣi and the Gandharva, within coming-of-age narratives. Both films position the characters of the Yakṣi and the Gandharva as fantastical figures who usher the young female protagonist into maturity. Rather than offering a pan-Hindu survey, this study focuses specifically on Kerala’s unique reimaginings of these celestial beings, where these figures carry distinct cultural meanings. The purpose of this review is to evaluate the efficacy of folinic acid supplementation in addressing communication deficits in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ASD is characterized by persistent deficiency in social communication and interaction, accompanied by restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior. Communication impairments are a core challenge in ASD and remain difficult to treat. Although there is no confirmed etiology, emerging evidence suggests that a subset of children with ASD may have underlying abnormalities in folate metabolism. The objective of this study is to investigate and compare the effect of cannabidiol (CBD)-containing and non-CBD topical anesthetic gel prototypes on skin irritation in rabbits at 24, 48, and 72 h post-application. Topical anesthetic gel prototypes containing 0.1% CBD and without CBD were developed. Six rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) were used for skin irritation testing according to ISO 10993-23: 2021. Background: This study examines the social construction of sexual orientation among adolescents, particularly non-heterosexual, in Daerah Khusus Ibukota (DKI) Jakarta, Indonesia. Currently, non-heterosexual adolescents tend to recognize their sexual attraction earlier than previous generations.

Methods: A mixed methods approach was used. We conducted in-depth interviews with foundations focused on HIV/AIDS management and groups with non-heterosexual orientations. For the quantitative portion, 267 adolescents (89 non-heterosexual and 178 heterosexual) completed a validated questionnaire. We conducted univariate and bivariate analyses examining gender distribution as well as the association between social construction factors and the formation of sexual orientation.

Epigenetic mechanisms, such as DNA methylation, modulate behavioral traits, including impulsivity and reward sensitivity. The dopamine transporter gene (DAT1) plays a key role in dopaminergic function and is associated with self-regulation, attention, and the trait of addiction. This study summarized the DAT1 methylation status in patients practicing combat sports and its association with impulsivity, ADHD symptoms, and consequence sensitivity. One hundred control subjects were recruited using the Barratt Impulsivity Scale (BIS), the ADHD scale, and the Opportunity Response Scale.
