Parental Knowledge, And Determinants Of Head Lice Infestation In Rural Southeast Georgia, Padde Musa, Sarah E. Braswell, Marina E. Eremeeva

Background:

Head louse pediculosis is a common problem among school-aged children. We assessed parental knowledge and practices about head louse infestations and factors contributing to the spread of head lice in families in Southeast Georgia.

Methods:

A self-administered questionnaire was completed by 197 parents, grandparents or guardians of school-aged children. Responses about participant’s demographics, knowledge about head lice, sources of information, treatment methods used, and behavioral practices that might contribute to head lice exposure and spread. Z-test or Chi-square test were used as appropriate, to identify population proportions across different variables with statistical significance (p-value) of < 0.05.

In his 2024 book, Jonathan Birch builds a precautionary framework for the borderlines of sentience, one that is meant to guide both theoretical reflection and practical action. One of the book’s great merits is its bottom-up approach, which presents itself as theoretically neutral regarding the (neuro-)physiological criteria required for sentience. Yet the singular place granted to midbrain-centric views (e.g., Merker, 2007; Panksepp, 2011; Solms, 2021) and to what Birch calls the “brainstem rule” (Chapter 11) raises questions. What justifies granting it such a central role? What are its practical and theoretical consequences?

Family reunification involves more than returning a child to the care of their biological family; it requires the sustained promotion of child safety, stability, and family well-being. This literature review examined how trauma-informed and collaborative approaches support safe, stable, and lasting reunification within the child welfare system. The review explored adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and developmental, psychological, family, and socioeconomic risk factors associated with child welfare involvement and permanency outcomes, as well as protective factors such as supportive relationships, caregiver well-being, resilience, and access to services and resources. This evidence-based practice project proposes updating a regional hospital’s infant sleep policy to include standardized, multimodal safe sleep education. The goal is to improve adherence to safe sleep practices and reduce the risk of sleep-related infant death using interventions such as multiple forms of standardized parent education, consistent staff modeling of safe sleep practices, environmental modifications, and routine bassinet audits. This project uses Dorothea Orem’s Self-Care Deficit Nursing Theory to strengthen parental understanding and promote safe sleep environments during hospitalization and at home.

Background: Low-dose radiation therapy (LDRT) for symptomatic osteoarthritis (OA) can add to the workload of radiation oncology services, particularly in small centers with limited capacity and staff. After we launched an OA LDRT program in December 2024, referrals grew rapidly at our rural, single-linac radiation oncology practice at UT MD Anderson’s Cancer Network Partner site (Community Health Network in Indianapolis, IN), leading to long wait times and workflow strain.

State lawsuits challenging executive orders and agency regulations not only disrupt executive policymaking but also reshape constitutional structures. States sue the federal government in highly coordinated multistate coalitions led by state attorneys general. These state coalitions target federal agencies and officials in strategically selected courts seeking sweeping injunctions to block executive actions. Following the Supreme Court’s opinion curtailing universal injunctions for private litigants without class certification, states are uniquely poised to obtain broad injunctive relief against the federal government. This principle arises from four canonical cases decided by the Supreme Court between 1973 and 2013. These cases remain good law. This study aims to quantify the activity concentrations of ²²⁶Ra and ²²⁸Ra in Technologically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (TENORM) contaminated soils from selected sites within the South Rumaila oilfield, Basra Governorate, southern Iraq, and to evaluate physical and chemical remediation options to reduce contamination below IAEA limits. Using High-Purity Germanium (HPGe) gamma-ray spectrometry, the mean activity concentrations were 7.67× 10⁴; ± 1.5% and 6.26× 10³ ± 1.43% Bq/kg for ²²⁶Ra and ²²⁸Ra, respectively (n = 25). Net primary productivity (NPP) plays a central role in biological carbon pump (BCP) and global carbon cycling, but NPP estimates in high-latitude regions remain highly uncertain despite their disproportional contribution to the global carbon sink. Previous studies identified discrepancies among satellite- and in situ-derived NPP estimates, but the drivers of disagreement remain poorly resolved due to limited high-frequency observations. Neurodegenerative disease is marked not just by loss of proteins or cells, but by dynamic rewiring of macromolecular interaction networks that precede and drive pathology. Here, we present a temporally resolved, systems-scale map of multi-protein complex remodeling in a tauopathy model, integrating co-fractionation mass spectrometry, quantitative phosphoproteomics, and machine learning to decode phosphorylation-dependent shifts in protein interactomes across disease progression. This interactomic atlas serves as a resource to investigate functional assemblies, including MAPT-Dpysl2 and Cyfip1-actin, as well as ptk2b-Kars/Dars and ptk2b-Msn-Farsb-complexes, that modulate early disease phenotypes in vivo.
