Synthesis And Evaluation Of Amidoximes As Potential Pharmaceuticals Against Antimicrobial-Resistant Bacteria, Prudence Mange
Synthesis And Evaluation Of Amidoximes As Potential Pharmaceuticals Against Antimicrobial-Resistant Bacteria, Prudence Mange
Honors Theses
The rise of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria in the healthcare industry has led to devastating effects in recent years, ranging from increased risks associated with hospital treatment to longer illness duration, which may eventually lead to increased death rates (Naghavi, Mohsen et al, 2024). To combat this ongoing challenge, this project aims to synthesize amidoximes, which are organic derivatives of carboxylic acids with an oxime and an amino acid group. Amidoximes have been utilized in various clinical applications, including antituberculosis medication, hypotensives, antiarrhythmics, antibacterials, and antifungals (J. Chil et al., 2011). -- The focus of this project was to test their antibacterial …

Influence Of Urbanization On Diel Activity Patterns Across Seasons For Four Mesocarnivore Species Along An Urban-To-Rural Gradient Through Boston, Massachusetts, Myra M. Goes
Honors Program Theses and Projects
Urbanization is a growing threat to wildlife and poses unique challenges that animals must overcome to thrive in developed places. Temporal partitioning is one method that wildlife may employ to persist among the increased predation, competition, and human presence pressures of urban spaces. To evaluate diel patterns of mesocarnivores along an urban-to-rural (URG) gradient, data were utilized from camera traps established at 27 sites along a URG in southeastern Massachusetts as part of the Urban Wildlife Information Network (UWIN). Camera trap photos from summer and winter between 2023 to 2025 were used and filtered for coyote (Canis latrans), northern raccoon …
Patterns Of Historical And Contemporary Distribution And Occurrence Of Imperiled Fish Populations In East Texas Streams, Maggie F. Moses
Patterns Of Historical And Contemporary Distribution And Occurrence Of Imperiled Fish Populations In East Texas Streams, Maggie F. Moses
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
East Texas supports a very diverse freshwater fish fauna, yet many of these species are listed as Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN). In this study, I investigated historical and contemporary distribution trends of ten fish species listed as SGCN within the Neches, Sabine, and Cypress River basins in East Texas. Specifically, I examined regional and local environmental variables influencing their distributions and occurrences at both time periods. At the regional scale, I developed ecological niche models (Maxent) using occurrence data from 1940–1999 (historical) and 2000–present (contemporary, including surveys from 2023–2025) to evaluate changes in habitat and identify key regional …
Matrescence: An Emerging Concept For Birth Worker Practice, Kelsey B. Green
Matrescence: An Emerging Concept For Birth Worker Practice, Kelsey B. Green
DNP Qualifying Manuscripts
The maternal mental health (MMH) crisis, affecting up to 25% of birthing individuals, is exacerbated by significant gaps in perinatal support. While birth workers are uniquely positioned to provide care, they often lack specialized training beyond basic screening checklists to address the complex transition to motherhood, defined as matrescence. This clinical innovation proposal outlines a matrescence-informed educational curriculum, guided by the Comprehensive Model of Mental Health during the Perinatal Period. The intervention is designed to build tangible, implementable skills, training birth workers to: (1) operationalize matrescence as a psychoeducational tool to normalize distress; (2) use clinical differentiation to distinguish the …

Food and Machinery
[Objective] To improve the polyphenol utilization and antioxidant activity of black highland barley. [Methods] Black highland barley was treated using ultrasonic treatment (UT), microwave treatment (MT), and ultraviolet irradiation treatment (UVT ).The differences in basic nutritional components, phenolic content, phenolic composition, and antioxidant activity were comparatively analyzed. [Results] Compared with the untreated group, the fat content of black highland barley significantly increased (P<0.05) after all three treatments, while the fiber content significantly decreased (P<0.05).The total phenolic and total flavonoid content were significantly increased (P<0.05) by all three treatments, reaching 1.03~1.19 times and 1.24~1.46 times those of the untreated group, respectively.Among them, UT significantly enhanced polyphenol content in black highland barley, increasing total phenolics and total flavonoids by 18.72% and 46.22%, respectively.UVT mainly increased hydroxycinnamic acids and flavonols, UT primarily increased flavonoids and flavanols, while MT mainly increased hydroxybenzoic acids. The antioxidant potency composite index (APC ) of black highland barley treated by the three methods ranked as follows:UT (99.94%)>UVT (93.35%)>MT (82.91%)>CK (74.10%).There was a strong correlation between phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity. [Conclusion] UT resulted in the highest phenolic content and antioxidant activity in black highland barley.
