A host of statutory schemes seek to ensure equal employment opportunities in the United States by eradicating workplace discrimination (“EEO laws”). Consider two foundational pillars necessary for these EEO laws to strike the desired balance between individual rights and workplace efficiency. First, employees require robust protection from retaliation if they engage in protected conduct—for example, by reporting perceived discrimination. Second, employers can—and ideally, should—make employment decisions based on how an employee performs the job.

Quadball is a sport based on Quidditch, the fictional sport born from the book series, Harry Potter, minus the flying. The introduction of this paper provides an overview of the sport and why gender plays such a significant role in it. Twelve players were brought together for a study and were put into three focus groups to discuss and hear other player’s perspectives on gender dynamics within the sport. This article presents the theoretical and conceptual foundations of the interdisciplinary didactic concept of Fictional Science (FiSci), which is positioned at the interface between media and language didactics. Based on reference concepts such as epistemic vigilance, inoculation, lateral reading, and media literacy in education, FiSci aims to promote secondary school students’ skills in dealing with fake news. While course 1 of FiSci (Activating the Fake News Radar) sensitises students to false information, course 2 (Verification of Information) teaches strategies for identifying false information that are also used by professional fact-checkers, and course 3 (Refutation) focuses on refuting false information.

The purpose of this project was to address the question: Will an interactive education program on a standardized handoff tool increase nursing staffs’ knowledge and self-confidence regarding its use? Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disorder driven by abnormal immune activation that promotes excessive proliferation and accelerated turnover of epidermal keratinocytes. IL-17 and TNF pathways are well known in psoriasis, but the other mechanisms that keep the disease active and link it to systemic comorbidities are not yet fully understood. A combined transcriptomic and systems biology framework was applied to map regulatory circuits in psoriatic lesions and to identify phytochemical candidates capable of multi-target modulation for topical intervention. Heavy metals, like lead, arsenic, and cadmium, are linked to increased inflammation even in early life; however, anti-inflammatory diets may offset these effects.

Methods:

We evaluated associations between heavy metals and inflammatory biomarkers, and potential effect modification by diet in 399 adolescents aged 10 to 18 at baseline who attended two study visits 2 years apart (773 observations). At baseline, blood lead, urinary arsenic, and cadmium concentrations were measured, and the Children’s Dietary Inflammatory Index (C-DII) was calculated. Fasting serum interleukin (IL)-4, IL-10, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha were measured for both visits. Generalized …

In the study of Marangoni condensation through thermal images, a common task is to analyze the features of a single droplet. To do this, the droplet must first be segmented from the background. While this segmentation can be done by hand for small batch sizes, scalability quickly becomes an issue. As machine learning tools have historically been strong in image segmentation, this study analyzes the efficacy of implementing a U-Net machine learning model for this specific segmentation task.
