It is known that celebrities have influence on their audience’s attitudes and behaviors. Within the last few decades, multiple celebrities have created distinctions between their public/stage self and their private self, however, less is known about the ways that they differentiate between the two. This paper looks at celebrity public persona’s and how these persona’s influence their audience. I use Kayleigh Amstutz, otherwise known as Chappell Roan, as my case study. Taxonomy is the practice of identifying, classifying and categorizing species, providing structure for the vast diversity of life. Aphids are an ecologically important group of soft-bodied insects, but they can be difficult to identify because of their tiny anatomical size, reduced or simplified morphological features, and morphological variation within a single species across different generations. In this study, the taxonomy of the spiny witch-hazel gall aphid, Hamamelistes spinosus, is revised. The complex multi-generational life cycle of the aphids, which alternates between witch-hazel and birch trees, has led to confusion regarding past descriptions. This study examines whether cover crops can be used in Utah and the Intermountain West to improve water quality and reduce contamination due to nutrient leaching from agricultural soils into the groundwater. Cover crops such as grasses, clover, and other seed mixtures can be planted to improve soil health, increasing the soil’s ability to retain water and nutrients, which reduces the amount of nitrate and phosphate fertilizers lost through leaching and contamination. To examine the effects of photosynthetic mode (C3 vs CAM) on plant productivity, subjects of the sister taxa Tillandsia confertiflora (a C3 species) and Tillandsia latifolia (a CAM species) were grown under controlled conditions via growth chamber over 30 weeks. These subjects were divided into non-stressed and drought stress groups. Subjects were compared for total biomass gained or lost over the time period as well as physiological stress measures and CAM activity. The primary conclusion is that usage of CAM does not show major differences or tradeoffs for overall productivity. Future work is needed to clarify if this holds true …

The high demand for sustainable energy has increased interest in advanced biofuels, though production is limited by solvent toxicity to microbial hosts. This study investigated the role of lipid composition in modulating membrane fluidity and solvent tolerance using Bacillus subtilis as a model organism. Five strains were cultured, and membrane lipids were extracted and analyzed using thin-layer chromatography and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry; however, inconsistent results limited compositional characterization. To address this problem, reconstituted vesicles composed of phosphatidylglycerol (PG) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) were used as model membranes. The early Pliocene Gray Fossil Site in Tennessee preserved an abundance of microfossils, including numerous anguid lizard specimens. This includes the following elements: dentaries, a pterygoid fragment, a jugal, frontals, parietal fragments, dorsal and caudal vertebrae, and many osteoderms. Because these specimens had not been placed taxonomically beyond the subfamily level, comparative anatomy of similar elements from extant anguids and some quantitative data were used to provide more refined identifications. Iron is essential for many biological processes, where it is used as a cofactor. Even though it is abundant in the Earth’s crust, it is in an insoluble form unavailable to microorganisms in the soil. To overcome this, bacteria produce siderophores, which are secondary metabolites that have a high affinity for iron. This allows bacterial cells to obtain insoluble iron that is essential for survival. Pseudomonas mosselii, a Gram negative bacterium, was isolated from soil. Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLSs) are vital yet often overlooked members of the healthcare team. This study investigated perceptions of MLSs among students in medicine, pharmacy, and nursing programs. Grounded in professional identity theory and literature on interprofessional stereotypes, the study utilized a quantitative survey distributed to 1,113 students, with 71 responses analyzed. Nine research questions explored differences in perceptions of MLSs’ professional practice, scope of practice, entry requirements, value as team members, and consultative roles. Results indicate students generally value MLSs as members of the healthcare team and acknowledge their contributions to patient care; however, their understanding is frequently restricted …

Bats are the only mammals capable of powered flight, and research is concentrated on this adaptation. Their non-flight locomotion has received comparatively little attention. Previous studies show that non-flight locomotor behaviors vary across families. Members of Pteropodidae are efficient climbers but cannot effectively walk, whereas Phyllostomidae and Vespertilionidae are better at terrestrial locomotion but show reduced arboreal capabilities. The non-flight locomotion of Hipposideridae and Rhinolophidae is less understood, although rhinolophids exhibit limited terrestrial locomotion. This study examined whether differences in locomotor behavior are associated with variation in acetabular morphology. Black farmers in Appalachia represent a vital and historically marginalized population within one of America’s most economically distressed regions. Black farmers have endured generations of systemic racism, resulting in land loss, economic hardship, and mental stressors. This study examines the intersection of race, agriculture, and behavioral health to illustrate how structural barriers and cultural stigmas shape the mental well-being of Black farmers across Appalachia.

The 2q31 region is commonly associated with pathogenic alleles of the HOXD cluster leading to various clinical phenotypes related to skeletal development. We present a proband with tetralogy of Fallot and multiple congenital anomalies. Genomic variant screening including an in-house CGR detection pipeline pairing genome sequencing (GS) structural variant calls with read-depth data revealed a de novo complex genomic rearrangement (CGR) spanning 2.7 Mb across 2q31 characterized by a series of duplications and triplications including the HOXD gene cluster. Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) is a foodborne pathogen that causes severe gastrointestinal disease and hemolytic uremic syndrome. EHEC employs multiple virulence factors to colonize the host intestine, including the locus of enterocyte effacement (LEE) encoded type III secretion system, intimin, and flagella, yet the role of long polar fimbriae (Lpf) in adhesions and infection remains less well understood. Long polar fimbriae can mediate bacterial attachment to host cells in vitro, yet the regulation and function of its two fimbrial operons, lpf1 and lpf2 in vivo remain poorly understood. Frequently operating under constraints involving financial resources, personnel, technical expertise, and time, SMBs have difficulty recognizing cybersecurity as a business risk warranting the expenditure of resources. Traditional cybersecurity consulting approaches meet with organizational resistance and fail to gain acceptance due to the SMB’s general underestimation of their own risk. This thesis presents the Rapid Urban Forest Assessment (RUFA) system, a web-based platform that integrates urban tree inventories and aerial tree detection to assess forest health across California’s census-designated places. RUFA combines inventoried tree records with coordinates detected from high-resolution multispectral imagery using convolutional neural networks, then computes a composite RUFA Score from four metrics: canopy cover percentage, trees per capita, tree diversity (TD-50), and tree evenness. The thesis addresses two engineering challenges in building the dashboard: querying and aggregating over seven million tree records in real time, and rendering spatial summaries at multiple zoom levels without recomputing cluster assignments …

While urban, Black adolescents interact with racial identity content on social media, their identity is primarily shaped through offline experiences and later reflected or reinforced online. Through the concept of Black social media competency (B-SMC), this study examined the relationships between Black urban adolescents’ social media use, exposure to race-related content, and experiences navigating the digital environment. While research has examined relationships among depression, working memory, and cognitive deficits, limited research has explored depressive symptoms and cognitive proficiency across biological sex. Depression manifests similarly in men and women, though men are more likely to experience irritability, impulsivity, and anger, while women tend to experience sadness, stress, and sleep disturbances (Johns Hopkins Medicine, 2023). These events often require clinical review, making systematic identification challenging. The study aim was to develop an approach to prioritize identification and validation of a rare ADR to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole causing acute respiratory distress syndrome (TMP-SMX ARDS) across medical institutions. We developed a clinical phenotype based on 2 local TMP-SMX ARDS cases mapped to standardized elements of a national comparative healthcare database (PHIS). This Major Research Paper examines how neoliberalism shapes the aspirations, self-perceptions and imagined futures of low-income and racialized youth in Canada. Drawing on Critical Political Economy, Postcolonial Theory, Critical Race Theory, and Intersectionality, the study uses a qualitative semi-systematic literature review and an autoethnographic lens to critically examine how neoliberal ideologies influence young people’s experiences. The findings suggest that neoliberalism not only produces material conditions of economic and social precarity but also individualizes structural inequality, encouraging youth to interpret systemic barriers as personal failures. Background: Preeclampsia is the most common complication of pregnancy, significantly affecting maternal and fetal health, and is characterized by placental and systemic endotheliopathy. Patients with preeclampsia have elevated levels of VWF (von Willebrand Factor), which is associated with poor clinical outcomes. However, whether VWF serves as a marker for endotheliopathy or contributes to the pathogenesis of preeclampsia remains poorly understood.

Methods: We investigated the role of hyperadhesive VWF in the development of preeclampsia by studying patients, evaluating mouse models, and performing in vitro experiments.

Background and aims: Gambling disorder (GD) has been linked to suicidal ideation and suicide deaths; however, evidence on all-cause and cause-specific mortality-particularly in Asian populations-remains limited. Using a retrospective cohort study based on nationwide matched and sibling cohort, we investigated all-cause and cause-specific mortality risk in patients with GD.

Design, setting and participants: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using 2000-2022 data from Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database. Large-scale multiancestry genome-wide association studies have identified hundreds of loci associated with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and glycemic traits, yet imputed genotyping arrays limit the detection of low-frequency and rare variants. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) offers a more complete view of genetic variation, especially across diverse populations. We analyzed high-coverage (38×) WGS data from 21,913 T2D case subjects, 61,036 control subjects, and up to 50,011 individuals with no diabetes with fasting glucose, fasting insulin, and HbA1c from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine Program. This commentary examines how clinicians can make their expertise more visible to patients through communication, education, and clinical narration. Drawing parallels to surgical checklists and professional mastery, the author argues that trust is built not only through excellent outcomes but also through helping patients understand the complexity and judgment behind treatment. The article emphasizes communication, transparency, education, and mentorship as important elements of patient-centered care.

College students are at high risk for experiencing psychological distress which impacts their academic, mental, and physical well-being (Eskin et al., 2016; Reed‑Fitzke & Lucier‑Greer, 2020; Sharp & Theiler, 2018). The Self Determination Theory (SDT) serves as a suitable framework for investigating the impact of parental autonomy support (PAS) and parental psychological control (PPC) on college students’ well-being and distress. The smooth marron (Cherax cainii) (‘marron’) is endemic to freshwater dams and rivers of south-west Western Australia. Marron are managed as a single stock within the South-West Recreational Freshwater Resource and are highly vulnerable to overexploitation due to the biological characteristics of the species (e.g., low fecundity, localised populations) as well as environmental (e.g., habitat loss, reduction in rainfall) and human (e.g., fishing, land clearing) pressures on freshwater ecosystems.
