Whether you sympathize with Title IX or loudly oppose it, the guidelines for enforcing it became effective July 21. It is law, and for women athletes, it's a completely new ballgame. Although Memphis State has had a women's athletic program for about 15 years, the University has formulated a plan, subject to revision as sex discrimination regulations become more clear, to adjust to the regulations of Title IX and to expand its women's athletic program over the next three years.

"Bigger Buildings Dotting Campus"

With the fall enrollment of 1963 expected to be between 8,500 and 8,700, Dr. Cecil C. Humphreys announced the extensive building program that will include four new buildings and several additions to existing buildings. Construction will begin this summer on the two-year $3,352,934 program. The new buildings will be: a six-story air-conditioned women's dormitory; a three-story air-conditioned men's dormitory; a biology building; and a school of education building.

As the rest of the world enters a new decade, Memphis State University is also entering a new phase under the leadership of Dr. V. Lane Rawlins and his wife, Mary Jo. Rawlins is MSU's tenth president.

One hundred and five Memphis State University students have been given deferred suspensions and currently face state charges of trespassing as a result of a sit-in staged in the office of Dr. C.C. Humphreys April 28. It was the second such sit-in within a week, and—as was the case with the first sit-in the previous Wednesday-most of the students involved were members of the Black Student Association. The students arrested were protesting the presence of city police on campus.
