While nectar and plant-derived carbohydrates are sufficient sources of nutrition to maintain energy and metabolism, female mosquitoes must acquire multiple ingredients to successfully reproduce and produce offspring. DNA methylation represents a widespread and heritable modification that exerts substantial influence on chromatin organization and function in many eukaryotic genomes. The presence of DNA methylation has been strongly linked to transcriptional regulation, in both activating as well as repressive ways, though exactly how a small chemical mark can enact such drastic and seemingly opposing effects on gene expression remains an open question. Loss of hearing is a prevalent sensory pathology in the United States and worldwide. A significant proportion of deafness is attributed to sensorineural hearing loss, which often involves damage and retraction of the nerve fibers that relay auditory information between the mechanosensitive hair cells of the inner ear and the brain. The restoration of physiologic hearing would require the regeneration of nerve fibers back into the sensory epithelium of the cochlea, followed by the reinnervation of appropriate hair cell targets. Blood feeding is fundamental for female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which require this protein-rich meal for egg development. After being attracted to a human host by sensory cues such as body odor, body heat, and carbon dioxide exhaled in human breath, the mosquito lands and probes under the skin to feed on blood. Probing uses the stylet, a sharp appendage ensheathed in the mosquito labium that punctures the skin and is highly specialized for blood ingestion. Previous work from the lab with GCaMP calcium imaging of stylet neurons showed that approximately 50% of stylet neurons respond to blood, and that these …

A graduate of South Dakota State University, Larsen was active in civic and agricultural issues during the 1980s and later became the Democratic nominee for the South Dakota State Senate in District 6 in 2004.

This collection documents Larsen’s public activities from 1983 to 2004. In 1972, Governor Richard Kneip encouraged coordination among citizen environmental groups, and Esther R. Edie helped connect organizations statewide. This effort culminated in a South Dakota Environmental Symposium on September 28, 1972, which brought together state officials, specialists, and community representatives to address issues including water management, forestry practices, air quality, recycling, and the creation of a formal statewide organization. Tax law is not neutral--it encodes social values and reinforces certain longstanding hierarchies. For over fifty years, legal scholarship at the intersection of gender and tax has exposed how seemingly neutral tax laws perpetuate gender inequality. This Article uses the metaphor of quilting to trace the evolution of this scholarly field across three distinct eras.   Part I names and defines the designing era (1971-1986), which began with Grace Blumberg's writing on the gendered impact of tax laws on marriage, labor, and caregiving; she framed taxation as a tool of social control over women. Background: Inhibitory control (IC) is fundamental to academic achievement and mental health, yet limited research examines how modifiable environmental factors influence neural substrates of IC in early childhood. Sleep regulation and adversity may shape IC development through experiential canalization processes. Objective: The Sleep, Inhibition, and Performance (SIP) study investigates how sleep characteristics, socioeconomic status (SES), and stress predict neural markers of inhibitory control in children aged 5-8 using event-related potentials (ERPs). Experiences of LGBTQ+ people vary not only by person but also by geographic area (rural, urban, and suburban). The focus of this study is the social acceptance of LGBTQ+ identities in high schools in these geographic areas. We present a minimal field model of communication—resonance geometry—in which 11 core emotions emerge as geometric features of a shared medium rather than as discrete labels. This model extends the Theory of Communication Resonance & Intelligence Tuning (ToCRIT) by translating its qualitative constructs—resonant tethers (connection “wells” between communicators), lucid/drag zones (smooth vs resistant flow of emotion and syntax), and the Cognitive-Emotive Fracture Principle (closeness in syntax or emotion can increase risk of rupture)—into quantifiable field metrics: throughput (𝓣), rigidity (ρ), coupling (k), and hemispheric shear (α).

(NOAA 2026) They also provide critical habitat for diverse marine species. However, reefs are rapidly declining due to rising ocean temperatures, acidification, pollution, invasive species, and physical disturbances. Globally, 30–50% of coral reefs have already been lost(NOAA 2026), and without intervention, many may face extinction by the end of the century. One of their key roles is intercepting stormwater runoff, reducing flooding risk, and improving water quality. Chapter 1 of this thesis characterized the ecological and economic contributions of urban trees on the Marshall University campus and provides guidance on their management and conservation in the future. Materials and methods: hTDM was prepared and characterized. Objectives: This study was conducted to prepare and characterize root-shaped treated dentin matrix (TDM) scaffolds, and to evaluate their efficacy together with seeded dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) as potential bio-roots in extraction sockets of rat models.

Materials and Methods: Root-shaped TDM specimens were prepared and characterized. Following extraction of maxillary incisors, the alveolar sockets were implanted with TDM segments measuring 8 mm in length, either alone (TDM group) or seeded with dental pulp stem cells (TDM/DPSCs group). Intensive longitudinal methods (ILMs) represent a class of longitudinal designs used to understand the flow of people's thoughts, feelings, physiology, and behaviors in their natural settings. This term encompasses daily diaries, experience sampling, ecological momentary assessment, ambulatory assessment, and related methods. Research on ILMs has grown exponentially, evolving into a core approach that complements more traditional designs. This article builds on this journal's first review on this topic, published in 2003. This paper examines the nearly seven decades of attempts to adopt multilateral rules restricting space arms race and limit military uses of outer space.
