Intercountry Adoption In Taiwan, Hua Kai Tsai
Intercountry Adoption In Taiwan, Hua Kai Tsai
Indonesia Law Review
Under the current choice-of-law rule concerning the intercountry adoption in the Taiwanese Private International Law Act, the adopter and the child should be governed by their national law respectively. The application of this rule is known as a distributive approach and the rule was made by reference to the old Japanese private international law. However, in 1989, Japanese law revised the choice-of-law rule on intercountry adoption and abandoned the distributive approach, due to the reason that such an approach tended to be construed as a cumulative approach by Japanese courts. Consequently, the formation of intercountry adoption in Japan turned out …

Decades have passed, but female fans who like male idols are still stigmatized, judged, and reduced to exist in society and popular culture. This is also what happened to ARMY, fans of the male idol group BTS. The research uses a qualitative research methodology elaborated through a feminist perspective to discuss how ARMYs are stigmatized because of the perceived inferiority of women and the existence of male domination in society, and also their love for the male group, regarded as the subordinated male group within the circle of hegemonic masculinity. However, the stigma and gender stereotypes attached to them were …
Extracting Dna From Embalmed Tissue To Study Genetic Predisposition To Degenerative Disc Disease, Conner Lynn
Extracting Dna From Embalmed Tissue To Study Genetic Predisposition To Degenerative Disc Disease, Conner Lynn
Undergraduate Theses
INTRODUCTION. According to a prominent study, 80-90% of people will show some evidence of degenerative disc disease (DDD) by age 50. Researchers have proposed that a Q326W substitution in the COL9A2 gene increases susceptibility to DDD. The role of collagen IX in intervertebral discs is not completely known, but due to its increased flexibility compared to other types of collagens, it is thought to connect collagen II with other components of the cartilage which are important to the integrity of the disc. Collagen II can be found within the nucleus pulposus and the inner portion of the annulus fibrosis. Researchers …

This study aims to present the use of Portfolios to develop independent learning and student understanding: forms, uses, and results. Portfolios can increase students’ understanding of lectures and foster student responsibility in completing a particular job. Researchers used a qualitative approach through observation, questionnaires, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that learning with portfolios in the form of summaries and concept maps is then presented in three languages, namely Arabic, English, and Indonesian in ten minutes for each language. By using a portfolio, students are not only independent and understand in learning but also practice language skills.
Resilience As An Investigation Of The Relationship Between Architecture And Nature, Valerio De Caro
Resilience As An Investigation Of The Relationship Between Architecture And Nature, Valerio De Caro
ARSNET
Recent architectural research concerning the theme of global warming seems to have brought attention to the natural phenomena that affect human life. It highlights a particular interest in the interpretation of the dynamic processes of the environment and all the natural entities, plants, and animals that inhabit it. The principle of resilience, which indicates the ability of physical entities to adapt to changes in the environment, represents the new paradigm of contemporary architectural design. However, the improper use of this term for communication purposes takes the attention away from projects that entwine a true relationship with the complex world of …

ARSNET
This paper investigates the notion of visibility and invisibility in architecture as a framework for exploring the existence of food in the domestic area. The paper argues that there is a disconnection between food, people, and the process behind it in everyday life. Such disconnection demonstrates the alternating visible and invisible existence of food process. Exploring both existences becomes essential to reveal the overall spatial story of food. The paper explores these two aspects through the food journey in the domestic space, creating a micro investigation of how food is obtained, prepared, cooked, and served. This paper aims to examine …

Association Of Environmental Pollutants Exposure With Pulmonary Fibrosis: A Mini Review Of Molecular Mechanism Mediated, Soni Siswanto, Bantari W.K. Wardhani
Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research
Pulmonary fibrosis is a specific form of chronic progressive interstitial lung disease. Deposition of extracellular matrix, mainly collagen, is the pathogenic characteristic of pulmonary fibrosis. Many reports show that environmental pollutants, particularly asbestos, silica, mercury, cadmium, and benzo(a)pyrene, are contributed in the etiology of lung injury and a risk factor in the development of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) in humans. Based on its physicochemical properties, environmental pollutant-induced pulmonary fibrosis can be developed after a particular type or dose of exposure. To date, some studies have focused on variant pollutants that are induced. However, the molecular mechanism of various pollutants to …

Confocal Raman microscopy (CRM) has become a versatile technique that can be applied routinely to monitor skin penetration of active molecules. In the present study, CRM coupled to multivariate analysis (namely PLSR—partial least squares regression) is used for the quantitative measurement of an active ingredient (AI) applied to isolated (ex vivo) human stratum corneum (SC), using systematically varied doses of resorcinol, as model compound, and the performance is quantified according to key figures of merit defined by regulatory bodies (ICH, FDA, and EMA). A methodology is thus demonstrated to establish the limit of detection (LOD), precision, accuracy, sensitivity (SEN), and …
Increasing The Prevalence Of Risky Play In Preschool And Kindergarten Classrooms In The United States, Kelsey Stark Zuiderveen
Increasing The Prevalence Of Risky Play In Preschool And Kindergarten Classrooms In The United States, Kelsey Stark Zuiderveen
Masters Projects
Risky play is a thrilling form of play that has the potential for some injury and is a biologically innate need within all children that provides a variety of physical, mental, and emotional benefits to children. Currently however, preschool and kindergarten classrooms in the United States offer little to no opportunities for risky play in early childhood settings. The main factor that influences the amount of risky play happening in early childhood classrooms is teacher attitudes related to risky play; if teachers have a negative attitude about risky play, less risky play is allowed in their classroom setting. This project …

Background: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common heritable cardiomyopathy and can predispose individuals to sudden death. Most pediatric HCM patients host a known pathogenic variant in a sarcomeric gene. With the increase in exome sequencing (ES) in clinical settings, incidental variants in HCM-associated genes are being identified more frequently. Diagnostic interpretation of incidental variants is crucial to enhance clinical patient management. We sought to use amino acid-level signal-to-noise (S:N) analysis to establish pathogenic hotspots in sarcomeric HCM-associated genes as well as to refine the 2015 American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) criteria to predict incidental variant pathogenicity.

Harvester ants often selectively forage seeds, causing these ants to be viewed as pests in agricultural areas where they may forage on crop seeds. While little research has been done on harvester ant preferences for cover crop seeds, grower observations in the Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV) suggest that ants may remove these seeds before germination. We examined red harvester ant (Pogonomyrmex barbatus F. Smith) preferences for cover crop seeds (fescue, oat, sunn hemp, radish, vetch, and wheatgrass) and the effects of a commonly used bacterial seed inoculant. We evaluated relative preferences using seed depots presented to colonies with no …

Masters Theses
Introduction: By stimulating the sympathetic nervous system during a high intensity cycle HIIT workout, the effects of body posture on heart rate recovery can be recorded as the body is returning to a resting state. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the physiology of recovery related to different body positions after high intensity exercise in order to account for the quickest recovery. Design: Original research. Methods: 18 healthy college aged individuals, 9 males, 8 females, mean age 21.7 ± 2.22, performed a submaximal HIIT workout on a cycle ergometer with a metabolic cart to record respiratory data. …
