Early Prediction And Diagnosis Of Peripheral Neuropathy In Type 2 Diabetes Using Biochemical Parameters, Eman Naim Taher, Narjis Hadi Al – Saadi

Al-Ameed Journal for Medical Research and Health Sciences

Background: Type II diabetes mellitus is commonly related to diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPNP), which manifests as a gradual progression of damage to the peripheral nerves after excluding other causes. As initial alterations may lie hidden, focus has moved to easy crude markers. Neuron-specific Enolase (NSE) was chosen since it increases early after axonal injury, Whereas, Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) reflects neurotrophic activity. Material and Methods: A case control study was done on 45 cases of DPNP after diagnosing through a nerve conduction study (NCS), 48 diabetics without neuropathy DWNP and 45 healthy individuals. Ages ranged from 35 to 60. …

Technical Disclosure: Zero-Idle Asynchronous Hardware Architecture For Linear-Complexity State Space Models And Metabolic Gating, Samuel John Church

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes a semiconductor architecture designed to eliminate dynamic idle

power consumption in Edge AI applications by utilizing clockless, event-driven logic to execute

linear-complexity State Space Models (SSMs). The system replaces the global synchronous

clock with local handshake protocols (Muller C-elements) implementing Pulsed Static CMOS

logic. This hardware substrate is coupled with a "Metabolic Gating" software router that

dynamically switches between low-precision "reflex" networks and high-precision "reasoning"

networks based on real-time energy availability and input "surprise" (prediction error). The

disclosed invention enables "Zero-Idle" operation, where power consumption scales strictly

linearly with input token arrival, achieving near-zero leakage during inter-token …

The Stories Of African American Mothers Working Part-Time Without Mandated Job Protections, Chantelle Sharese Yancy Feb 2026

The Stories Of African American Mothers Working Part-Time Without Mandated Job Protections, Chantelle Sharese Yancy

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides unpaid, job‑protected leave only for eligible workers, and rules tied to hours, tenure, and employer size often exclude mothers working part-time. Research on U.S. family and medical leave has documented inequities in access to job protections. The lived experiences of African American/Black mothers navigating this gap remain underrepresented. The purpose of this narrative qualitative study was to explore the lived experiences of African American/Black mothers who worked part-time without mandated job protections, with specific attention to FMLA. General systems theory provided the theoretical framework, and an Afrocentric paradigm centered African/African American/Black voice …

Itbs Stimulation Of The Bilateral Ifg/Ipl Alters The Oscillatory Pattern In Asd, Mitra Assadi, Reza Koiler, Ryan Ally, Richard Fischer, Rod C. Scott

Farber Institute for Neuroscience Faculty Papers

BACKGROUND: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by impairments in social communication, reciprocity, and adaptive behavior. Converging neurobiological evidence suggests that these clinical features arise from aberrant connectivity and dysregulated neuronal oscillations across distributed brain networks. In particular, dysfunction within the mirror neuron regions, concentrated in the inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) and inferior parietal lobule (IPL), has been implicated in deficits of imitation, empathy, and social cognition in ASD. Non-invasive neuromodulation using repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has shown modest behavioral benefits in ASD. However, most studies apply the conventional protocols targeting the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. The …

Early Detection Of Infectious Diseases: A Review Of Recent Advances In Pathogen Identification, Molecular Tools, And Metabolomics-Driven Biomarker Discovery, Patrica Ivy Agorsor, Michael O. Eze

Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works

The recent COVID-19 pandemic has heightened public interest in noninvasive methods for early diagnosis of infectious diseases. In addition, various government agencies have implemented "infectious disease preparedness" to mitigate future outbreaks. This review highlights conventional and advanced methods for infectious disease diagnosis with an emphasis on emerging mass spectrometry methods. Conventional methods for pathogen identification, such as culture-based techniques and molecular methods, have limitations with respect to sensitivity, specificity, and turnaround time. Recent advances in high-resolution mass spectrometry have revolutionized the field of infectious disease biomarker discovery. These techniques enable the comprehensive profiling of metabolites in various biological samples, identification …

ata were compiled from surveys by Dr. Harry Tiebout, augmented by observations from GNA staff (which, as used here, includes student interns), graduate student Steven Clay, the Stroud Water Research Center, additional WCU Faculty, Ty Showers of the WCU Grounds Department, and observations that have been posted to iNaturalist. Local residents who are regular visitors to the Gordon have also occasionally contributed observations. Because herptile data haven't been systematically archived by the GNA staff until recent years, there are many gaps in the observation timeline that are clearly artificial. For example, although the observation history for the Eastern American Toad, …

Species must acclimate, shift their distributions, or adapt in place in response to anthropogenic climate change. Populations at low-latitude trailing edges of species distributions typically experience thermal conditions closest to the upper limit of their thermoregulatory capacity. Landscape and functional genomic approaches provide quantitative measures of risk and adaptive capacity which can inform and prioritize conservation actions. Using low-coverage whole genomes from Canada lynx (Lynx canadensis), we characterized population genomic structure and identified putatively adaptive loci using genotype-environment association analyses across the eastern extent of their distribution. We detected genetic breaks across two previously identified biogeographical barriers, the St. Lawrence …

Staff Education Project Staff Education To Increase Knowledge Of The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 Screening Tool, Linda Ejem

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This staff education doctoral project focused on educating nursing staff about the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) for depression screening in inpatient psychiatric care. Addressing this issue is crucial, as poor adherence leads to missed diagnoses and treatment, increased hospital visits, and poor patient outcomes. Low adherence to the PHQ-9 depression screening protocol has emerged as a significant practice gap. The purpose of this doctoral project was to increase nursing staff knowledge of the PHQ-9 depression screening tool in psychiatric care through staff education. The practice-focused question was: Does education on PHQ-9 depression symptoms improve nursing staff knowledge as compared pre- …

The establishment of human intestinal enteroids (HIEs) as a model for human norovirus (HuNoV) replication has been transformative for studying this leading cause of gastroenteritis. However, indefinite passaging of HuNoVs in HIEs remained a challenge, necessitating the use of patient stool samples as viral inocula. Using RNA-seq, we identified CXCL10, CXCL11, and CCL5 as up-regulated chemokines, suggesting their potential as host restriction factors. TAK-779, a CXCR3/CCR5/CCR2 antagonist, enhanced GII.3 HuNoV replication and viral spread in a dose- and time-dependent manner, enabling successful passaging of GII.3 HuNoV in two different HIE lines and generation of viral stocks. Sequencing passaged virus revealed …

NF-κB activating protein (NKAP) plays important roles in various cancers, including breast cancer. However, its expression and prognosis value in breast cancer remains uncertain. Gene expression profiling interactive analysis, Human protein atlas database, and University of Alabama at Birmingham Cancer data analysis portal database were used to predict the expression and prognostic value of NKAP in breast cancer. Immunohistochemistry, quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blot were performed to detect NKAP expression. The effects of NKAP on cell proliferation, migration and drug sensitivity were investigated in MDA-MB-231 and SK-BR-3 cells. NKAP protein expression differed in breast cancer …

Focal adhesions (FAs) are critical multi-protein complexes regulating cell adhesion, migration, and survival, and their dysregulation contributes to cancer metastasis and vascular diseases. Despite extensive research on FA formation, little is known about FA turnover, particularly its regulation by autophagy. This study introduces a novel tandem fluorescence reporter capable of tracking the entire FA-phagy flux, from autophagosome formation to lysosomal degradation. The reporter, based on a red–green fluorescence system with a lysosome-specific cleavage site, integrates seamlessly into endogenous focal adhesion complexes, demonstrating sensitivity and specificity to autophagy stimuli. Validated in multiple cell lines, the tool revealed dynamic FA-phagy responses to …
