Right now, school administrators and jurists across the nation are wondering how to address the legal implications of the transgender movement in public schools. In response, many public schools have adopted policies requiring teachers to identify transgender students by their preferred pronouns. These preferred-pronoun mandates have created face-offs between the personal preferences of transgender students and the religious tenets of teachers. As a result, school officials and courts around the United States find themselves wedged between this clash.

Benjamin Franklin once said, “It is better a hundred guilty persons should escape than one innocent person should suffer.” To achieve this goal, the Commonwealth of Virginia has implemented a system through which a falsely convicted person is given another opportunity to prove his innocence: writs of actual innocence. A writ of actual innocence provides a second chance to a person wrongfully convicted of a crime. It can allow a “murderer” to prove his innocence and expunge his record after falling short of convincing a judge or jury at trial. In our keynote address at the 2025 National Numeracy Network Annual Meeting, we introduced the framework we developed for considering four domains of an institution’s quantitative skills/reasoning support ecosystem that includes bridge programs with a quantitative component, approaches to assessing readiness, curricular on-ramps, and supplementary support. We believe this ecosystem framework has the potential to help campus leaders coordinate institutional efforts around student success in areas connected to students’ quantitative preparation. Objective: This study aimed to assess the relationship between nonthyroidal illness syndrome (NTIS) and extubation outcomes in pediatric patients requiring mechanical ventilation. Methods: This prospective cohort study included 59 patients who underwent mechanical ventilation in the pediatric intensive care unit of a tertiary care university hospital from July 2020 to June 2021. Each patient underwent laboratory testing including serum levels of TSH, free T3, free T4, and reverse T3 on the first and third days of mechanical ventilation. Results: On the first day of mechanical ventilation, 62.7% of patients had low free T3, which significantly increased to 78% of patients …

This poster examines the relationship between clinical symptom scales and electroencephalographic (EEG) biomarkers in patients with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Participants from inpatient substance use treatment facilities completed validated mental health and withdrawal assessments, including the COWS, PHQ-9, HAM-A, and ASRS followed by cognitive testing while undergoing 19-lead EEG recording.

Preliminary findings indicate that synthetic opioid use is associated with prolonged P300 response latency across brain regions, suggesting measurable neurophysiologic differences tied to substance type and addiction severity. The study explores how EEG metrics may complement subjective symptom reporting to provide more objective markers of addiction status, co-morbid psychiatric burden, …

Purpose:

Large vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke is associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality, and patient outcomes are strongly influenced by rapid identification and timely reperfusion. Advances in acute neurovascular imaging have transformed stroke care by enabling precise patient selection, extending treatment windows, and accelerating clinical workflows. The purpose of this project is to evaluate how modern neurovascular imaging strategies influence treatment selection, workflow efficiency, and clinical outcomes in patients with acute LVO stroke.

Abstract

The Praxis II: Subject Assessment in Speech-Language Pathology is a required national examination for certification and licensure in the United States. However, disparities in pass rates, particularly among culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) test takers, create barriers to professional entry. This study examines students' perceptions of the effectiveness of an Examination Preparation Course, designed to enhance student success through structured content review, practice exams, and test-taking strategies. A total of 70 graduates (2018–2023) who completed the course participated in an online survey assessing their demographics, perceptions of the course’s effectiveness, and confidence levels before and after taking the course. …

Exploring Sexual Health Literacy And Information Needs: A Qualitative Study Of Disadvantaged Youths In A Thai Welfare School, Chanat Paktanyasit, Suchita Sukonthasub

Background: Disadvantaged youths in Thailand are left critically exposed to sexual health risks due to systemic informational barriers that have been largely unaddressed by research. This qualitative study aimed to investigate the sexual health literacy and information needs of disadvantaged youths.

Method: The research utilized purposive sampling for in-depth interviews with 16 disadvantaged students at Rajaprajanugroh 58 School in Nonthaburi Province, Thailand and a focus group discussion with 10 of their teachers. Data was collected in August 2025.

Journal of Health Research

Background: Balanced iron and ferritin levels are essential for many biological functions; unfortunately, smoking may disrupt these levels. The objective of this study was to investigate the association between smoking status with serum iron/ferritin levels among Jordanian adults.

Method: Participants were classified as active, passive, or non-smokers. Blood samples were analyzed to measure serum iron and ferritin levels. Statistical tests assessed differences in these levels among smoking groups.

Results: The study included 247 participants (25-64 years old). Active and passive smokers exhibited higher median iron/ferritin levels compared to non-smokers. But these differences were not statistically significant (iron: p=0.128, ferritin: …

Scutellarin, a flavonoid glycoside primarily derived from Scutellaria baicalensis, has garnered increasing scientific interest for its multifaceted pharmacological properties. This review summarizes recent advances in our understanding of scutellarin's therapeutic effects, including its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, cardioprotective and anticancer activities. Emphasis is placed on elucidating its molecular mechanisms of action, such as modulation of the NF-κB, Nrf2, and PI3K/Akt pathways, and its role in regulating oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis. Additionally, we discuss formulation innovations, including nanoparticle and liposomal delivery systems, aimed at overcoming scutellarin's poor oral bioavailability and enhancing therapeutic performance.
