The generation of wastewater or effluent is unavoidable as long as humans exist, and it could cause potential danger if not properly managed. One way to manage it is by ensuring proper treatment before discharging into rivers, streams, and creeks. This will not just protect human health but will also protect aquatic fauna and flora. Thus, this research applied scientific and engineering principles to design a waste stabilization pond (WSP) to treat municipal effluent generated in a large military community (Sobi Cantonment), which currently lacks a wastewater treatment plant. The research revealed that the WSP will comprise two anaerobic ponds, …

The antibiotic impacts of classical drugs against bacteria could be enhanced via the conjugation of silver nanoparticles. After the successful coating of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with Tetracycline, the characterization of the conjugate properties was achieved through measurements with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled to an energy-dispersive X-ray analyzer (EDX). The SEM analysis shows the appearance of silver nanoparticles with an average particle size of 22.82 nm and a cubic shape. Meanwhile, the EDX spectrum of silver NPs exhibits peaks corresponding to elemental silver. The anti-bacterial activity of pure Tetracycline and tetracycline-AgNP conjugates was examined against ten isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. …

State-Of-The-Art Review Into Signal Processing And Artificial Intelligence-Based Approaches Applied In Gearbox Defect Diagnosis, Asaad Dubaish, Alaa Jaber

Engineering and Technology Journal

Various industrial applications, including rotating and reciprocating machinery, depend on gears. Therefore, a sudden breakdown of the gears could result in substantial financial losses. Due to this, extensive studies have focused on defect diagnosis. Both machinery maintenance decisions and preventive maintenance techniques have been aided by vibration analysis. An increased vibration is a warning sign that a machine is about to malfunction or break down. Observing and evaluating the machine's vibration pulses can identify the nature and extent of the issue and, as a result, predict when the machine will fail. The vibration signal may identify gearbox defects early on …

Clathrate-Based Recovery Of Sulfuric Acid From Spent A Cid, Najlaa Lazim, Riyadh Almukhtar

Engineering and Technology Journal

Recently, the applications of hydrate phenomena in industrial processes have been increasing. A clathrate or hydrate is a solid, ice-like compound that forms when water/guest is mixed under certain conditions. Hydrogen water molecules bond with the guest molecules to form a crystal lattice. Different guests can form the Clathrate (e.g., gases or liquids). Dilute Sulfuric acid is usually generated at different industrial plants, and these dilute acids are considered waste because they cannot be reused again. Many treatment processes handle this environmental problem, like electrochemistry, precipitation, adsorption, membrane filtration, and ion exchange. Although such processes have significant operational advantages, their …

Artificial Neural Network-Based Transmission Power Control For Underwater Wireless Optical Communication System, Omar Mohammed Salim, Salah Adnan, Ammar Mutlag Mar 2026

Artificial Neural Network-Based Transmission Power Control For Underwater Wireless Optical Communication System, Omar Mohammed Salim, Salah Adnan, Ammar Mutlag

Engineering and Technology Journal

Several scientists have proposed using an underwater wireless optical communication system (UWOC) to deliver high-speed data services using the abundant optical spectrum. However, wireless optical signal propagation faces an antagonistic environment when using undersea channels due to various factors like scattering, absorption, turbulence, and optical link misalignment between the transmitter and the receiver. These factors will attenuate the optical signal and lead to degrading system performance. To reduce these factors impact on the communication system's performance, transmitted optical power (OTP) should be increased. Since the UWOC system is battery-powered, increasing OTP will consume more electrical power. Therefore, it is necessary …
