This study was aimed to evaluate histopathological changes in experimental rats with induced splenomegaly and liver fibrosis by administering thioacetamid (TAA). Liver fibrosis was clearly noticed in all experimental rats after intraperitoneally injected with a dose (200mg/kg) body weight for 8 weeks ,while control rats injected with buffered saline.The body , spleen and liver weight were recorded , also ratio of liver and spleen per body weight was estimated.Macroscopical changes including (colour, size, congested, signs of fibrosis, irregularity, nature of surface) regarded to liver and spleen were clarified. Bioactive chemical compound A1 was extracted, purified and identified from the algal culture of Nostoc linkia isolated from Basra Rivers in southern Iraq. The identification of the compound by using GC-mass was confronted. Solubility, toxicity, purity and the chemical formula and molecular weight of A1 compound were determined. The antimicrobial bioactivity of the purified compound against the bacterial strains Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus and the dermatophytic fungus Candida albicans was tested by using a disk diffusion agar method. One hundred fifty six of stool samples were collected from patients suffering form diarrhea; the samples were classified according to the rural and urban areas, gender, age and immune status (pregnancy, diabetes, and corticosteroid therapy). Routine parasitological examinations were done to all samples using acidfast stain technique. Antigens detection method was also done by using ELISA. The present study was carried out from Sept. 2010 to Jul. 2011 to detect the viral load and genotypes of HCV infections among asymptomatic peoples and patients referred to the central blood bank, center of thalassemia /AL-Haboby Hospital, renal dialysis unit/Al- Hussein Teaching Hospital and public health laboratory at Thi-Qar province.
