The severity and impact of dry mouth in patients receiving palliative care is underreported, and assessment methods for this condition are lacking consensus. This study aimed to examine the severity of dry mouth in a palliative population as rated on a visual oral dryness scale and to compare these findings with the actual symptoms experienced by patients, as reported through both a symptom scale measure and a bother questionnaire. 40 participants took part in this cross-sectional study. The results indicated that xerostomia is a significant and debilitating symptom for many patients receiving palliative care. Daily activities such as speaking and …

The purpose of this phenomenological study will be to describe the lived experience of widows aged 65-80 who lost their husbands within the past five years in one of three counties in Washington State: Pierce, Kitsap, or Mason. The two theories guiding this study will be Bowlby’s Attachment Theory and Bandura’s Social Learning Theory, (SLT), as they relate to post-loss identity and mourning. Home health agencies continue to grapple with challenges in nurse staffing and workforce management. This integrative review explored effective strategies to address these challenges and improve operational efficiency. The review focused on identifying best practices for enhancing nurse recruitment, retention, and scheduling processes within home health settings. Guided by the transformational leadership framework, the study examined 30 empirical and theoretical articles published over the past 5 years. The selected articles were further assessed for relevance and quality using the Johns Hopkins evidence-based practice model. The DNP project aimed to evaluate the impact of a structured new-hire training program on employee retention and job satisfaction within a hospice organization. Insufficient training for new employees can lead to a high staff turnover rate, stress, decreased job satisfaction, and poor quality of care. The quality improvement project utilized a pre-post intervention design over an eight-week period, comparing retention rates and job satisfaction scores before and after project implementation. Sport volunteers are imperative to the success of sport mega events. Knowing why volunteers continue to help events was the purpose of this study. This study aimed to investigate the motivations of sport volunteers post Covid-19. Data were collected from 30 volunteers at the 2023 NCAA College World Series. Inductive qualitative analysis and descriptive statistics found that community support was the reason the respondents were most glad to volunteer. The findings offered insight into how communication factors between supervisors, law enforcement, and other volunteers affected volunteer motivation. Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a life-threatening condition marked by a spectrum of thrombosis due to activation of procoagulant factors and bleeding due to eventual consumption of these factors. DIC invariably occurs secondary to an underlying condition, including infection, inflammatory conditions, trauma, and malignancies. Treatment of DIC primarily involves treatment of the underlying cause.¹

Bone marrow invasion occurs when tumor cells infiltrate the hematopoietic marrow space, displacing progenitor cells and causing cytopenias. Background: The Claims-based Frailty Index (CFI) has been developed and validated using Medicare claims data. However, whether CFI can be applied to structured electronic health record data has not been studied.

Methods: We applied the CFI to a structured electronic health record dataset (Explorys dataset) and a Medicare fee-for-service 5% sample data and compared the prevalence of frailty from each dataset, using the cohort of older adults. In the United States, nearly 62,000 children and adolescents experience the death of a sibling each year and sibling bereavement is one of the most distressing life events during childhood; however, it has received less attention in research compared to other forms of childhood loss. Bereaved siblings and parents are at increased risk for negative physical and psychological outcomes, yet little is known about their support and resource needs during the early years following the death. I was self-diagnosed autistic before I went in for my so-called professional assessment. The months leading up to my assessment brought a good deal of stress. Would I be believed? Seen?
