Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

The Covid 19 impact survey, reflected the top reasons for nurses leaving the profession were burnout and well-being (American Nurses Foundation, 2022). Additionally, the American Nurses Foundation’s Three-Year Annual Assessment Survey, nurses are still feeling stressed, exhausted, and nurses with less than 10 years’ experience stated they are either not or not at all emotionally healthy (2023). AIMS: In the phase 3 KEYNOTE-689 trial (NCT03765918) among patients with resectable locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (LA HNSCC), perioperative pembrolizumab (pembrolizumab before surgery, then continued with standard-of-care [SOC] radiotherapy +/- cisplatin after surgery followed by pembrolizumab alone) significantly prolonged event-free survival vs. SOC alone, both in the intention-to-treat population and PD-L1 combined positive score (CPS) ≥1 subgroup. Perioperative pembrolizumab + SOC received Food and Drug Administration approval in June 2025 for resectable LA HNSCC expressing PD-L1 (CPS ≥ 1). The present study evaluated the cost-effectiveness of perioperative pembrolizumab + SOC versus SOC in this indication, from …

What Matters Most? Novel Findings From An Innovative Measure Of Coworker Interrelations On Nursing Units, Lynn Varagona, Nancy Ballard

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Background: Coworker support improves trust1 and decreases or prevents nurses’ stress,2 anxiety, or burnout.3,4 Lack of teamwork and cohesion among coworkers can lead to nurses’ stress, burnout, disengagement, and turnover.5 The Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index, a widely used measure, does not capture coworker interrelations. Team virtuousness, a work environment in which virtues and character strengths (routes to displaying virtues) are practiced, supported, and encouragedimproves coworker interrelations. People on virtuous teams feel safe, grateful, positive, and supported by one another;6,7 view work as more meaningful; are more engaged; and are …

Integrating Early Palliative Care For Patients With Heart Failure, Leigh Barnhill Hinson Feb 2026

Integrating Early Palliative Care For Patients With Heart Failure, Leigh Barnhill Hinson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Heart failure (HF) is a leading cause of hospital readmissions. At the project site, early palliative care was inconsistently integrated despite strong evidence of benefit, suggesting that limited staff knowledge, lack of standardized referral processes, and uncertainty regarding referral timing contributed to this practice gap. The guiding practice-focused question was, “Does educating staff on early palliative care integration for HF patients improve knowledge as measured by pre- and post-education surveys? The Johns Hopkins evidence-based practice (JHEBP) model and the ADDIE instructional design model guided project development and implementation. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using MEDLINE/PubMed, CINAHL Complete, ProQuest, and …
