Antibiotic Susceptibility Of Black-Pigmented Bacteroides Isolates From The Human Oral Cavity, Linda Jean Laatsch, Paul R. Hohenfeldt, William L. Kos

Biomedical Sciences Faculty Research and Publications

The minimal inhibitory concentrations of penicillin and six other antibiotics were determined for 66 oral black-pigmented Bacteroides isolates by using the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards proposed standard agar dilution technique. These results plus iodometric determination of β-lactamase activity showed that oral isolates of black-pigmented Bacteroides are remaining relatively susceptible to commonly used antibiotics.

Dental Hygiene Students' Perceptions About The Behavioral Characteristics Of The Effective Clinical Teacher, Frances Gaby Carson

A descriptive research approach and a self-designed questionnaire were used to obtain information about the effective clinical teacher as perceived by first and second year dental hygiene students. The Effective Teaching Behaviors Questionnaire was reviewed critically by several Old Dominion University dental hygiene faculty who's comments were used for revision. Once revisions were made, a pilot study was conducted on a sample of Old Dominion University dental hygiene students to determine the reliability and validity of the instrument.

Pedodontists' Attitudes Toward Pit And Fissure Sealants As A Preventative Oral Service, Kathern Rheanice Hamlin

Dental Hygiene Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of this survey was to assess periodontists' attitudes toward pit and fissure sealants as an oral health service. A self-designed, 43-item questionnaire and a letter of transmittal were mailed to a random sample of periodontists belonging to the American Academy of Periodontics (N=S00). Data were obtained from 288 returned questionnaires (58 percent).

Data analysis suggested that periodontists' attitudes have changed over the past nine years in that: (1) more periodontists are assigning a high value of pit and fissure sealants in preventing dental caries, (2) more periodontists are using pit and fissure sealants to prevent dental caries, and …

ปัญหาทันตสุขภาพและความต้องการทางทันตกรรมของชุมชนหนึ่งในจังหวัดฉะเชิงเทรา : บทสัมภาษณ์, สมพล เล็กเฟื่องฟู, วีรศักดิ์ เหลืองจามีกร, สุนทร ระพิสุวรรณ

ได้ทำการสัมภาษณ์หัวหน้าครัวเรือนทุกครัวเรือนในหมู่บ้านหินดาษ ตำบลดงน้อย อำเภอราชสาสน์ จังหวัดฉะเชิงเทรา จำนวน 54 คน เป็นชาย 21 คน (คิดเป็นร้อยละ 38.9) และหญิง 33 คน (คิดเป็นร้อยละ 61.1) ในส่วนที่เกี่ยว กับประวัติส่วนตัว การประเมินทันตสุขภาพของตนเอง ปัญหาทันตสุขภาพ การ ใช้บริการทางทันตกรรม บริการทันตกรรมของภาครัฐ และเรื่องเกี่ยวกับฟันปลอม ซึ่งให้ผลของการศึกษาดังนี้ ประชาชนคิดว่าตนเองมีปัญหาโรคฟัน และเชื่อว่า เกิดมาจากพื้นเป็นรู (คิดเป็นร้อยละ 74) สภาพของเหงือก ประชาชนเชื่อว่า อยู่ในสภาพแข็งแรงดี (คิดเป็นร้อยละ 81) ร้อยละ 65 ของผู้ตอบไม่ต้องการการ ใส่ฟันปลอมแทนฟันแท้ที่ถูกถอนไป เมื่อมีปัญหาโรคในช่องปาก เขานิยมไปรับบริ การการถอนฟันจากหน่วยแพทย์เคลื่อนที่ แต่สําหรับพวกที่มีปัญหาแล้วไม่ไปรับบริ การเพราะเชื่อว่าโรคฟันเกิดขึ้นเองและหายเอง หรือเพียงแต่ซื้อยาแก้ปวดมากินก็พอ ประชาชนมีความต้องการ (Demand) คำแนะนำและการบริการทางการป้องกัน โรคเป็นอันดับหนึ่ง การตรวจฟันและการถอนฟันเป็นอันดับรองลงไปตามลำดับ

การศึกษาขนาด รูปร่าง ฟันหน้าของคนไทยกลุ่มหนึ่ง, สุดจิตต์ ทองธรรมชาติ

ในการศึกษาสถิติเกี่ยวกับขนาด และรูปร่างของฟันหน้าบนของชายหญิง อายุตั้งแต่ 20-42 ปี จำนวน 56 คน ทำให้ทราบว่าฟันหน้า central incisor ขนาดใหญ่ที่สุด ความยาวในแนว inciso cervical 12.2 ม.ม. ความกว้างที่สุด ในแนว mesio-distal 9.57 ม.ม. ฟัน lateral incisor ยาวที่สุด 11.4 ม.ม. กว้างที่สุด 6.4 ม.ม. พื้น cuspid ยาวที่สุด 12.3 ม.ม. กว้างที่สุด 8.5 ม.ม. และฟันซีน (cuspid) มีความแตกต่างกันมากในแต่ละคน จากการศึกษาเปรียบเทียบกับผลงานวิจัยของ Arne M. Bjorndal, D.D.S., M.S., William G. Henderson, M.P.H., Ph.D., Arthur Eddy Skidmore, D.D.S., M.S., และ Frank H. Kellner, D.D.S. (BKHS) พบว่าฟันของคนไทยและคน อเมริกันมีความกว้างในแนว mesio-distal ใกล้เคียงกันแต่ความยาวในแนว inciso cervical ในคนไทยสั้นกว่าของคนอเมริกัน จึงทําให้ฟันหน้าของคนไทย โดยเฉลี่ยดูจะป้อมกว่าของชาวอเมริกัน ซึ่งสอดคล้องกับรูปร่างใบหน้าของกะโหลก ในคนไทยส่วน Central incisor มักจะเป็นรูป Tapering

ความเป็นกรดด่างที่มีผลต่อการผลิตกรดแลคติค ของเชื้อสเตร็พโตคอคคัส มิวแทนส์, จินตกร คูวัฒนสุชาติ, รัตน์ เสรีนิราช

การเพาะเลี้ยงเชื้อสเตร็พโตคอคคัส มิวแทนส์ ภายใต้ภาวะที่ไม่มีออกซิเจน ในสารละลายน้ำตาล 5 ชนิดที่มีความเข้มข้นไม่เท่ากันและระดับความเป็นกรดด่างต่างกัน ปรากฏว่าที่ระดับความเป็นกรดด่างเท่ากับ 6 และ 7 เชื้อสเตร็พโตคอคคัส มิวแทนส์สามารถผลิตกรดแลคติคออกมามากกว่าระดับอื่น

รายงานนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ที่จะประมวลแนวความคิดต่าง ๆ เกี่ยวกับการ ประเมินผลโครงการทันตกรรมชุมชนเพื่อวิเคราะห์ให้เห็นว่า แนวความคิดเหล่านี้ มักจะมุ่งที่จะให้ข้อมูลในทางวิชาการ โดยไม่ได้ให้ความสำคัญเท่าที่ควรแก่การแยกแยะข้อมูลเพื่อประโยชน์แก่การตัดสินใจในงานบริหารระดับต่าง ๆ พร้อมกับเสนอ แนะแนวความคิดในการแยกแยะข้อมูลที่ได้จากการประเมินผลโครงการ เพื่อที่จะ ช่วยให้ข้อมูลนี้สอดคล้องกับความต้องการในทางบริหาร แนวความคิดแก้ไขนี้พอจะสรุปได้ คือ ให้มีการจัดกลุ่มของมาตรการ ประเมินผลออกเป็น 4 กลุ่ม ตามช่วงเวลาของการดำเนินโครงการและความต้องการ ในการใช้ข้อมูลเพื่อการตัดสินใจของผู้บริหาร และให้กำกับชื่อสําหรับเรียกกลุ่ม ข้อมูลเหล่านี้ใหม่เป็น 1. ex-ante evaluation 2. input-output evaluation 3. on-going evaluation 4. ex-post evaluation

ปัจจุบันมีการนำเอา "ไบออปซี่" (biopsy) มาใช้กันอย่างกว้างขวาง ในการวินิจฉัยโรค การวินิจฉัยได้อย่างถูกต้อง นอกจากจะขึ้นอยู่กับความรู้ความ สามารถของแพทย์ผู้ทำไบออปซี่และพยาธิแพทย์แล้ว ยังต้องอาศัยวิธีการจัดการกับ ชิ้นเนื้อตัวอย่างให้เหมาะสมด้วย จากประสบการณ์การทํางานในภาควิชาทันตพยาธิ วิทยา คณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย พบว่ามีข้อบกพร่องบาง ประการ เช่น ตัดชิ้นเนื้อตัวอย่างเล็กเกินไป ใส่น้ำยารักษาสภาพไม่ถูกต้อง ให้ ประวัติผู้ป่วยไม่ละเอียดพอ เป็นต้น สิ่งเหล่านี้เป็นอุปสรรคต่อการวินิจฉัยโรคของพยาธิแพทย์ บทความนี้มุ่งหวังที่จะทบทวน อธิบาย วิธีการรวมทั้งเหตุผลและข้อเสนอแนะในการทำไบออปซี่

ความคิดรวบยอดเกี่ยวกับตนเอง ของบุคคลมีมาตั้งแต่เกิดและมีการพัฒนามาเป็นลำดับสิ่งที่มีอิทธิพลต่อการพัฒนาความคิดรวบยอดเกี่ยวกับตนเอง ได้แก่ประสบการณ์ในช่วงแรกของชีวิต และครอบครัว วัฒนธรรม ร่างกาย และสติปัญญา นอกจากนี้ โรงเรียน บทบาทของครู และบรรยากาศในชั้นเรียน จะมีส่วนสำคัญในการพัฒนาความคิดรวบยอดเกี่ยวกับตนเอง การเรียนรู้ความคิดรวบยอด ของบุคคลจะเกิดประโยชน์ในการเข้าใจบุคคลและพฤติกรรมของบุคคลมากขึ้น

This study investigates the feasibility of involving parents as evaluators using an objective screening test for their children who are 36 to 42 months of age. A more available and nonthreatening assessor is needed as physicians, dentists and other allied health professionals who are typically used to screen children for speech, language and hearing have not been effective with this age group. This is partially due to the limited contacts they have with these children and the environmental limitations for eliciting an adequate speech and language sample (Behrens, 1978; Webb, 197B; Hirsch, 1981).

To determine of the fetal liver functions as a blood reservoir, we measured liver blood volume under normal conditions and after hemorrhage and volume loading. Nineteen pregnant guinea pig sows and 54 near-term fetuses were injected intravenously with ⁵¹Cr-labeled red cells while the fetuses remained in utero. Ninety seconds later a 0.5-1.0 g sample of liver was garroted with a sharp wire into a tared tube with minimal blood loss. A blood sample was taken to measure counts per ml of blood, the fetus killed and the remainder of the liver weighed. Blood volume of the liver and body …

Healing Following Two Different Surgical Approaches To Treating Deep Periodontal Intraosseous Defects, A. Durwin H. Chamberlain

Surgical treatment of deep periodontal pockets associated with intraosseous defects has traditionally been performed either with or without resection of the osseous defect. A non-resective approach may provide more gain of attachment while a resective approach may give better pocket reduction. The increased pocket reduction following osseous resection is probably accomplished at the expense of some attachment loss in areas involved by the surgical procedure. Previous studies have compared periodontal surgery with and without osseous resection (i.e. Rosling et al. 1976, Knowles et al. 1979 and Smith et al. 1980). The purpose of this study was to survey Old Dominion University dental hygiene master's degree graduates and their employers to assess the overall quality of the graduates' education. Individuals who graduated between May 1976 and December 1981 (N =29) were sent a self-designed questionnaire to obtain evaluative data about the ODU dental hygiene master's degree program. The graduates were asked to identify strengths and weaknesses of the ODU master's degree program, the role competencies required for their current position, and the degree to which they were prepared for their current job by the master's degree program. The lack of scientific information regarding caring beliefs, expectations, and behaviors in the Chinese community of Hong Kong was the problem underlying this descriptive study. A knowledge of caring behaviors as they routinely occur within a culture can provide a basis for the development of professional nursing care that is meaningful for the people of that culture. The purpose of the study was to obtain the opinions of the residents of a Hong Kong Chinese village regarding current beliefs and practices relating to touch, surveillance, health counseling, and special ethnocare techniques.
