Cla+ Spring 2015 Uno Institutional Report, Uno Office Of Institutional Effectiveness
Cla+ Spring 2015 Uno Institutional Report, Uno Office Of Institutional Effectiveness
Student Learning
CLA+ has two primary uses. The first use—helping institutions estimate their contributions to the development of students’ higher-order thinking skills—is achieved through growth estimates, as well as overall evidence of students’ competency in critical-thinking and written communication. The second use highlights these skills for individual students; CLA+ results provide a valuable tool for potential employers and graduate schools to ascertain the depth of a student's critical-thinking and written-communication skills. With CLA+ Career Connect, those results become accessible and actionable. CLA+ Career Connect gives students a leg up in today’s competitive job market, enabling them to: post electronic badges verifying their …

Aiding Transitional Justice In Solomon Islands, Nicole Dicker
Aiding Transitional Justice In Solomon Islands, Nicole Dicker
Buffalo Human Rights Law Review
Overall in Solomon Islands, foreign aid donors have neither engaged effectively with transitional justice itself nor leveraged transitional justice in support of broader development outcomes. Transitional justice in Solomon Islands responds to the five-year period of violent civil conflict, the Tensions, which devastated the Pacific Island nation of Solomon Islands from 1998 to 2003. The Tensions resulted in the deaths of an estimated 200 people and left some 35,000 people displaced; many suffered abductions, illegal detentions, torture and ill-treatment, sexual violence, and property violations. To remedy past human rights abuses, several transitional justice measures have been implemented in Solomon Islands, …

Lyric Analysis: A Resource For Acute Psychiatric Music Therapists, Sok Hwee Tay
Lyric Analysis: A Resource For Acute Psychiatric Music Therapists, Sok Hwee Tay
Music Therapy Theses
As a music therapist working in a psychiatric setting, I have the privilege of working with individuals of varying psychiatric diagnoses. There is never a dull moment and I am constantly learning about myself through my work and through the individuals that I work with.
Lyric analysis and song writing are two techniques that I frequently employ in my sessions. In order to find songs that fit the requirement of the objectives that my individuals are working on, it requires me to spend time researching the song lyrics as well as the musical components of the song. This process is …

Health, Education and Human Development Awards
It is estimated that 70 million U.S. adults have criminal records, which equates to roughly one in four American adults. Of those incarcerated, more than half a million are released from prison annually. The ability to obtain stable employment is a primary factor in facilitating a successful transition to life after prison. However, studies show that Americans with criminal records face significant barriers to obtaining employment.

This report evaluates out-of-school suspension (OSS) in the context of the Clarksdale Municipal School District (CMSD) using research based in positive behavioral systems and alternative approaches to exclusionary punishment. An Intersectional Approach To Criminological Theory: Incorporating The Intersectionality Of Race And Gender Into Agnew's General Strain Theory, Wyatt Brown
Ralph Bunche Journal of Public Affairs
Mainstream criminological theories often fail to incorporate demographic characteristics (which are robust predictors of criminal behavior). Also, many scholars suggest that theories of criminality need to move beyond sex or race or class etc. and utilize these dynamic characteristics in tandem. This theoretical perspective is often referred to as intersectionality. There is some criminological literature on the individual effects of these demographic characteristics as they represent social status as such they interact to effect experience, agency, and power. This analysis discusses how studying the intersectionality of gender and race may change explanations of criminal behavior. Specifically, how knowledge of gender …
Genocide Denial And The Law: A Critical Appraisal, Paul Behrens
Genocide Denial And The Law: A Critical Appraisal, Paul Behrens
Buffalo Human Rights Law Review
Genocide denial carries particular relevance for international law: it is the negation of international crimes, and it can prepare the ground for new crimes of this kind. But its criminalization raises concerns as well. The danger of a clash with human rights, particularly with the freedom of ex- pression, cannot be dismissed lightly. This article explores reasons for and repercussions of the criminalization of denial. It also investigates alterna- tives, including the use of truth and reconciliation, and evaluates methods that focus on direct confrontation of the deniers.

The Lives Of Young Adults Who Have Graduated From Residential Children's Mental Health Programs (Full Report), Gary Cameron, Karen Frensch
Partnerships for Children and Families Project
This report presents the results of a research process in which 59 young adults who had received residential mental health treatment in the past were sorted into descriptive profiles based on the information they shared about their lives and personal functioning with researchers. Five different groups of young adults emerged from this process and represent the clearest categorizations for understanding this particular sample of young adults from across Southern Ontario who received residential treatment.
Sorting young adults into distinct groups based on their functioning within key life domains (like education, employment, social connections, personal functioning) is useful to understanding the …
