Media Influence And Third-Person Effect On Perception Formation About Immigrants In The State Of New York, Leslie S. Ramirez Soto

Theses

The present study examines hostile media bias and the third-person effect in those with anti-immigrant sentiments and those with pro-immigrant sentiments to determine the variables that influence their beliefs about immigrants and immigration in the state of New York. Based on McKeever, Riffe, & Dillman’s (2012) survey conducted in North Carolina, this study builds on their results to evaluate if factors such as geographic location, concentration of immigrants, or political inclinations can change the results. Five-hundred respondents from New York State participated in a survey about their attitudes concerning immigrants and immigration. Results confirm that those with anti-immigrant sentiment will …

Audacious Visions: The Intellectual-Activist Legacies Of W.E.B. Dubois, The Institute Of The Black World, And Walter Rodney, Derrick White

South

By 1969 the nature and terrain of the Black freedom movement had profoundly changed. The nonviolent direct action portion or "classical phase" of the movement had led to clear political successes with the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act.[1] The movement had also made tremendous inroads in altering public racial discourse. Racial epithets were less acceptable to in polite or in public conversation. Despite these successes, Martin Luther King, Jr., before his assassination, asked profound questions about the next stage of the movement. King’s last book, Where Do We Go From Here?: Chaos or Community …

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. Journal of Critical Scholarship on Higher Education and Student Affairs

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is a national program that has become a staple program to engage college males in sexual violence prevention on many college campuses. In this manuscript, I use queer theory and crip theory—a conceptual framework that merges queer and critical disability theory—to explore both the positive outcomes and potential harm done in the production and implementation of this event.
