According to a 2024 report, 89,898 inmates are residing in California State prisons- 119% over capacity (Morris, 2024, p. 1 ). This study investigated two key aspects: (1) What rehabilitation and reintegration services are offered to inmates in the California State prison system, and are these services provided upon release? 2. Best Practices For Preparing Urban High School Students For College Readiness, Chin Nou Khang
Graduate Teacher Education
Low-income urban students in the United States exhibit limited college and career readiness opportunities (Yavuz et al., 2019). College preparation coursework and career training in low-income urban secondary settings are essential to creating inclusivity in education. The disparities of marginalized students in these institutions highlight the urgency for educational leaders to effectively produce the next generation of student achievement. This meta-analysis secondary research paper examined the best practices for educational leaders to ensure college and career readiness opportunities are being implemented for low-income urban high school students. When students have access to college readiness materials, their scholastic goals can be …

Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence And Well-Being Among New York Police Department Law Enforcement Agents, La’Lisa Scudder
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The problem this quantitative study addressed was police officers’ willingness to use organizational help-seeking interventions and rely on organizational support to mitigate operational and organizational stress. Previous literature discussed how officers engaged in different maladaptive coping behaviors as a result of work related stressor or low well-being, divorce, depression, prescription drug abuse, alcoholism, and suicide. The purpose of this quantitative correlational cross-sectional study was to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and well-being among law enforcement agents and examine agents’ willingness to use organizational-based intervention services. The organizational support theory and the social exchange theory provided the theoretical framework for …

Scenes From A Sabbatical: Narratives Of School Leadership, Albert Boerema
International Christian Community of Teacher Educators Journal
School leadership is often described in terms of vision, strategy, and efficiency. However, the lived experiences of school leaders reveal a far more complex reality—one shaped by relationships, ethical dilemmas, and the daily challenges of guiding a school community. This paper presents insights from a sabbatical study in which the author observed and interviewed leaders at five schools—one public and four faith-based.Four aspects of leadership are illustrated in this essay: the emotionally charged moments, the tensions that arise between competing visions, the fragility of educational institutions, and the role of hospitality in leadership. These narratives illustrate how school leaders navigate conflict, …

Women's Learning For Community Peacebuilding, Robin Neustater
Peace and Conflict Studies
Around the world, every day, women work on building peace in their communities. Through various roles, paid and unpaid, women’s community care work is significant to the lives of individuals, families, communities, and the women themselves. Understandings of peace are varied, and often nuanced to the context and experience of who is defining peace. How women define peace will inform how they think about peacebuilding. Women engage in learning about peace and for their peacebuilding work, through nonformal and formal programs, and through experience and role models. Their learning to do peace is vital to getting things done. This article …

A Study Of The Management Of The Herders-Farmers Conflict-Induced Internal Displacement In Nigeria, Rita Iorbo, Dick Taverishima Andzenge
Peace and Conflict Studies
The management of the herdsmen-farmers conflict-induced internal displacement in Nigeria was characterised by remote factors that affected the protection and assistance of internally displaced persons (IDPs). This qualitative study was conducted on 12 participants comprising humanitarian workers, IDPs, and lawmakers who were conversant with the persistent herdsmen-farmers conflict-induced internal displacement. The study explored the inter-connected relationship among stakeholders within the humanitarian ecosystem. It found that though the herdsmen-farmers conflict led to mass displacement, remote factors such as unwillingness of government, data challenges, the undiplomatic approach of government in the management of the displacement failed to win support of other stakeholders …

Research is one of the gates to uncover wisdom in scientific disciplines. In its implementation, it is often found that there are various interests underlying the research. These various interests also have their own purpose to the extent that it can influence the results of the research which can have implications to form a research misconduct. This research aims to review the national criminal law regarding this behavior by examining the relevant act’s articles as well as scholarly dogmatics due to the absence of laws regulating this matter. Latino Threat Perceptions And Immigration Attitudes: An Examination Across Generations Of Latinos, Michelle Angel
Latino Threat Perceptions And Immigration Attitudes: An Examination Across Generations Of Latinos, Michelle Angel
Dissertations and Theses
Recently, immigration has been a major focus in U.S. politics, more importantly with the current administration pushing for the implementation of punitive immigration policies. Research shows that perceived Latino threat is associated with support of Trump and harsh border controls. While existing research has expanded the perceived Latino threat and punitive border control attitudes among non-Latinos, less is known about how perceived Latino threat and punitive border control attitudes function within their own group and how they might vary across different generations of Latinos. Accordingly, there has been a shift in Latino voting preferences, specifically across different generations of Latinos. …

Dissertations and Theses
The prevalence of human trafficking continues to increase worldwide, and the implementation of human trafficking education and victim identification within institutions is slow to catch up. The Oregon State Hospital is a psychiatric in-patient hospital that currently does not provide human trafficking education or a screening tool for staff and does not know how to provide treatment to trafficked victims. Interviews were conducted with employed social workers at the Oregon State Hospital to obtain a baseline understanding of their previous education, training, and knowledge of human trafficking to aid in the creation of a trafficking screening tool. Results indicate participants …

Battlefield Evidence In The Age Of Artificial Intelligence-Enabled Warfare, Winthrop Wells
Chicago Journal of International Law
A number of emerging technologies increasingly prevalent on contemporary battlefields—notably unmanned autonomous systems (UAS) and various military applications of artificial intelligence (AI)—are working a sea change in the way that wars are fought. These technological developments also carry major implications for the investigation and prosecution of serious crimes committed in armed conflict, including for an under-examined yet potentially valuable form of evidence: information and material collected or obtained by military forces themselves.
Such “battlefield evidence” poses various legal and practical challenges. Yet it can play an important role in justice and accountability processes, in which it addresses the longstanding obstacle …

The Illusion Of Redemption: Examining Gubernatorial Pardons, Collateral Consequences, And The Ineligibility For Public Office In Missouri, Anna Claire Parker
The Illusion Of Redemption: Examining Gubernatorial Pardons, Collateral Consequences, And The Ineligibility For Public Office In Missouri, Anna Claire Parker
Missouri Law Review
Imagine you have just pled guilty to a felony offense in Missouri. While the court may inform you of certain rights that will be lost, additional rights remain unmentioned. Suddenly, you find yourself stripped of fundamental liberties such as voting, serving on a jury, holding public office, and owning firearms. Additionally, the right to a trial by jury, the assistance of a lawyer at trial, and protection against self-incrimination have been forfeited. In this bleak scenario, a glimmer of hope emerges: the possibility of a gubernatorial pardon. This pardon represents a chance at redemption, potentially restoring all the rights you …

This piece (June 2025) is a collaboration with our partners at The Landing Place to amplify youth voices and ideas for systems change that came out of a series of conversations with youth in Rockland, called Listening Suppers which aimed to inspire conversations about school, work, family, community supports, relationships, and more. This short brief highlights the themes that came out of these conversations including community strengths and assets, gaps and youth needs, and youth informed recommendations for change. While much of the conversations were specific to the local Rockland community, the challenges and solutions highlighted are similar to what …

Contract Or Prison, S. R. Blanchard
Contract Or Prison, S. R. Blanchard
University of Chicago Law Review
Critics of the criminal enforcement system have condemned the expansion and privatization of electronic monitoring, criminal diversion, parole, and probation. But the astonishing perversion of contract involved in these new practices has gone unnoticed. Governments are turning to “offender-funded” programs that empower firms to contract with people who are suspected of or have been convicted of crimes— and whose alternative to agreeing to these contracts is prosecution or incarceration. Though incarceration-alternative (IA) contracting is sometimes framed as humane, historical and current context illuminates its coercive nature. IA contracting must be examined under classical contract theory and in light of the …

"A Man’S Home Is His Castle"? Intimate Partner Violence, Firearm Surrender, And Home Searches Under Article I, Section 7 Of The Washington Constitution, Dana Raigrodski
Washington Law Review
Intimate partner violence (IPV) remains a vexing problem in Washington. Firearms make intimate partner violence much more dangerous and, frequently, deadly. To protect victims of IPV and to reduce its severity when guns are present, the State of Washington put in place a comprehensive statutory scheme to disarm perpetrators of IPV. In 2022, however, the Washington Court of Appeals for Division II held, in State v. Flannery, that the statutory firearm surrender scheme violates article I, section 7 of the Washington Constitution, which prohibits disturbing a person’s private affairs or invading their home without authority of law. This Article …
Culturally Responsive Intimate Partner Violence (Ipv) Service Needs Among African Immigrant Women: Examining The Impact Of Cultural Norms And Psychosocial Barriers On Safety Perceptions And Help-Seeking Behaviors, Titilayo Ogunbambi
Dissertations
Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) remains a pervasive public health and social justice issue globally, with African immigrant women in the United States facing compounded challenges as they navigate cultural, structural, and systemic barriers, including migration-related vulnerabilities and attachment to cultural values that shape their decisions and experiences. Although formal IPV services exist, they often fail to address the lived realities and culturally specific needs of this population, leading to underutilization and barriers in seeking help. This qualitative study examines how cultural norms, psychosocial barriers, and systemic inequities influence safety perceptions and help-seeking behaviors among African immigrant women survivors of IPV. …

Dobbs, State Policies, And Minors’ Interests In An Open Future, Lois A. Weithorn
UC Law SF Journal on Gender and Justice
The United States Supreme Court discarded five decades of established federal constitutional doctrine with its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Following Dobbs, legislators in some states rushed to restrict the decisions of pregnant persons. Litigation, executive actions, and voter initiatives, including attempts to amend state constitutions, quickly followed. At the time of this writing, access to abortion is severely restricted in large swaths of the country. Increasing numbers of pregnant persons have sought out-of-state services through telehealth or cross-border travel. Some states have created new forms of criminal or civil liability in an effort to prevent its …
